What are you going out from? If XLR or 1/4, you can switch the output levels from line to mic in the global options
-
You'll create send / return blocks in your path, and then assign these to buttons on the helix to switch them on and off.

I'm with you Jimbo... I understood what you meant by it rocking, not acceptable. Assuming all rubber feet were the same height, if it's rocking, it means the extrusion is warped out of spec, and there ain't no fixin' that. And it's a possible cause for your volume pedal issue to boot (pun unintended), plus other possible problems it could cause (warping the board inside, connectors not quite fitting inside, etc.. all bad stuff). The pedal should go from 0 to 100 and back no problem, by foot or by hand... Using the pedal on/off button by hand, that's a different story, but all other operation should be transparent to it's location.

Yes, it sounds like it would be good for you. Given Helix doesn't yet have a POG model, and the organ may be easier with a pedal since it is used simultaneously with your guitar path, it sounds like you may want to go the full Helix route. You could likely regret not spending a couple extra hundred dollars later. Reverb has a few new and used units for around $1200 with free shipping in the states. Plus you save $100 I think (or is it $200?) on Native with Helix over LT, which, given your setup might be useful for you even in a live scenario.

Sounds like a TC Mimiq in a loop may be your best solution then...

I've done it with a single path. Just need to turn off amps and dirt effects when you switch to acoustic. You don't want to use IR's with the acoustic models, the IR is built into the guitar... you may want to add a gain or mic pre when you switch to the acoustic model. You'll want to use the Variax in selection (as opposed to Multi) so you can control the Variax model per snapshot. Though Multi might work, could just get confusing... If you want to mix mags and modeling, then you would want two paths so you can use two different in's so you could have an ampless path for an acoustic model, and an amped path for the magnetic signal.

I'm confused.... One connector is in, the other out on S/PDIF You only need the in jack for full stereo signal in (or the out for out). Or did you mean something else? Whether you can use them at the same time, I'm not sure. Be that as it may, how is it you want to "network" them? You could always take signal any of the sends or outs on one and put it in a return or an in on the other. Is that good enough?

Maybe this helps... from this thread http://www.marshallforum.com/threads/effects-are-weak-in-jvm410h-effects-loop.72110/ "Probably things you already know or tried and its been awhile since I had mine. Make sure you are using the loop in and out on the left (facing rear of amp) and not the ones on the right which is for amp in and out and on yours its called Series Parallel Loop I believe. You want to use the Serial Loop. On my HJS its labeled Serial Loop and that's the one I use with no problems. Make sure you engage the fx loop button on the front of the amp for each channel and each mode of each channel that you want to use the effects loop on. Also and I am not positive but on my HJS I believe one of the tubes V3 or V4 if for the effects loop. If yours is the same maybe you have a tube going bad. Sorry I couldn't be more help."

Yep it is... Isaiah Sharkey playing with John Mayer...

Before you get rid of your Traynors, I'd perhaps take your Helix and keyboard and test out at least one of your FRFR solutions. Since you're going to also use the system for your keyboards, I'd want to make sure they work with your keyboards as well as the Helix. IOW, if you like the Traynors with your keyboards, and you like them with the Helix, why are you looking elsewhere? While not by definition FRFR, keyboard amps still are pretty Full Range, and relatively Flat response, especially compared to guitar amps. So they by definition should work well with Helix. A lot of guys go are looking for "amp in the room" sound, which isn't necessarily compatible with keyboard amplification. So make sure to put people's responses in the context they are using their solution for and compare that to your context. Given you're looking to use it for your Helix AND keyboards, "amp in the room" might not be right for you....

And not only is it added cost... Helix is a looonnnggg term product. Why would I want to restrict myself to this year's wireless unit from a single vendor? Which product would I integrate with Helix? Helix is meant to be the center of my rig. I now can go out and buy any wireless system and integrate it with Helix. And when a better one comes out next year, I can get that one. Nope, don't want it.

DI and several other employees have said the current product has room for expansion for a long time to come. I can't imagine a newer hardware version for at least 2 years, very likely longer than that.
-
And, as was previously mentioned, give yourself at least 5 ft of distance to the speakers. Gotta get to a point where the speaker and tweeters are mixed sufficiently.
-
Going forward, though, numbering is your best bet, cause you can browse and load all the presets in one shot. Otherwise you have to load them individually.

So you can't use the Ernie Ball Volume pedal as an expression pedal?

Hahaha... sorry... I couldn't figure out the problem at first, so I was documenting everything I did to see if I was doing something wrong. I wasn't. I didn't ultimately HAVE to do everything I did, but really I did if I ever wanted to just connect the Variax and use Line 6 Monkey. It's two different systems, two different ways of using the same Workbench HD to access the Variax, and update the Variax really. Ok, since people seem to be confused here's a first go at it. My problem was a bad cable. Period. That's it. Something's wrong with my Neutrik Ended VDI cable. I don't know what. Workbench HD sees my variax when I connect my Helix to my computer by USB and my Variax to my Helix with the ethernet cable supplied with the Variax Guitar (no Neutrik ends), short). When I connect my Variax to my Helix with a third party Neutrik ended ethernet cable, Helix can see it and it plays fine, but Workbench HD cannot connect to my Variax. I haven't had time yet to do a pin to pin test of the cable, so I don't know what's wrong. You need Line 6 Monkey to update the Variax drivers and can use it to update Workbench HD. That requires direct USB connection of the Variax to the computer. Which in turn requires the Variax USB driver (v1.0.72). You need Line 6 Updater to update Helix to 2.20. You need the Helix USB driver (v1.85) to connect the Helix to the computer by USB. Workbench HD can see the Variax if either: The Variax is connected to the computer by Variax USB Dongle or The Variax is connected to the Helix and the Helix is connected to the computer by USB. (I've only tested it with VDI connection to the Helix. I have not yet tried to connect my Variax to the Helix with 1/4 inch connection and see if that works with Workbench. It's possible it could. I don't know, and there's currently no documentation on that as far as I could find. Like I said, documentation is pretty thin.) So the story has a happy ending... Workbench HD integration does in fact work through the Helix. And now I can make changes and hear them at the same time. My problem was but a cable. That is all.

Any particular part? Why doesn't the rest of you?
-
As I noted. The issue is solved. The problem was my VDI cable. 1.85 is the latest Helix USB driver version, the latest Variax USB driver version is 1.0.72. The whole process is all quite complicated because there are different systems for different uses. As I noted, when I get a chance, I'm planning on documenting everything since I found the Line 6 documentation a little lacking. It's all there, but, all over the place, and you kinda have to understand how it all goes together to understand it. Took me a while to get there (As a side note, I've never attempted to control anything through MIDI. Still beyond my little pea brain. I did once try to control some lights through a DMX controller a bunch of years ago, but it didn't work. I think the controller was broken. I got it used with a whole bunch of other stuff, I didn't really care that much, just wanted to see if I could get it working. Coulda been me, coulda been the cables I was using, coulda been the controller, who knows? Squirrel!!)

Yes, as noted above, all drivers were installed and working. The problem was definitely my cable. When I get a chance, I'll write down the steps I used to install and get it all working so they are in one place.

Live control (editing) ...acoustic guitar use... any news?
FlyingsCool replied to jkuche's topic in Helix
You could get a Windows tablet, Walmart has usable ones for Helix for around $100 -
Oh, and, it works without a 1/4" plug in the socket at the same time as the VDI cable. That's nice. For anyone wondering.
-
That worked. Sort of. At first, when I unplugged and replugged my Variax with my VDI cable with VDI connector (3rd party) I got nothing through the helix. Connected the Variax with the supplied ethernet cable from the USB interface still no joy O_o. Not a squeak from the guitar. Rebooted the Helix with the USB ethernet cable, then it connected fine. I could play through the Helix, and, joy, workbench worked. But then I disconnected the ethernet cable, reconnected the VDI connector VDI cable and still joy, it could play again through the helix. But no joy on connecting to Workbench :( Rebooted the Helix, still no joy on Workbench, but at least it still plays. I'll bring the cable to work and make sure all the lines are correct tomorrow. Tested it again with the USB ethernet cable. Definitely the VDI cable is the problem. Thanks everyone.

I did forget to right click run the Line 6 Monkey installer As Administrator though. Could that be a problem?
