  1. 12 F isn't sub-zero, just winter.... (silly centigrade doesn't count) ;)
  2. You could reflash to a previous version (scroll down the download list).
  3. Awesome find.. Thanks Now just need to add other brands to it....
  4. It's not necessarily true that adding additional features reduces computing resources, sometimes it's just a matter of turning on functionality that is already in the code, but needed further hooks into other features and/or debug testing that was not yet in the plan. I think, however, that the design philosophy is such that pedal edit mode is meant for use in live gigs, and I'm not sure how many people would want to rely on always being barefoot during their gigs. But, there's always global options, (haha, poke, poke, DI ;) ), and ideascale. Write up and post your idea and how you think you'd use it, and maybe it'll stick.
  5. Hmm, I wonder what's causing the volume pedal issue? If it were simple, there'd be a patch out by now. Perhaps a math thing resolving zero, or the voltage resolution around zero / 100% is too jumpy, and changing zero to be not zero to get away from the extremes causes problems elsewhere? Given all the people talking about it, I can't imagine they haven't reproduced it yet.
  6. My Shure SRH-840 44 ohm headphones sound like crap with the Helix. I'm assuming it's because of their very low impedance. They sound great with my computer and with my Focusrite 6i6 interface. But with Helix, they sound very thin and crackly and just plain awful. That said, I'm in the market for a new set of higher impedance headphones that I can use for Helix, too. (I've been wondering, however, if perhaps the problem is in the Helix, but I'll have to test it with some higher impedance headphones before I go that route)
  7. Another important point, apparently Helix isn't too kind to low impedance headphones, either. I have a pair of Shure 840's which are 44 ohm impedance, and the signal always sounds digitally clipped to me, and I haven't been able to use my headphones with Helix, Multi/XLR change or not. I haven't tried a different set of headphones with higher impedance yet, but I've heard it is sensitive to impedance.
  8. As noted in the release notes, if a preset is experiencing the volume bug, it is corrupt. They list a fix... but if it were me, I'd dump the whole preset and build a new one. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I had the same problem. Turned out I could use Chrome and not Firefox. Updated my Firefox installation from the Help/About Firefox menu and I was able to log into Line 6/Support again.
  10. I could have sworn I saw a post in "the thread" from DI that said you could send midi over USB...I could be wrong... Would that only be for use in DAWs on a PC if it is restricted as such? (I'm pretty much a midi newbie) (As I imagine controlling a light show with the Helix...) Edit: Ha! Just saw the other thread on controlling DMX lighting with the Helix :)
  11. I, too, am in the "I'd like a mono set of reverbs" camp. Not only would it preserve DSP, but I've also found that I tend to like the mono effects better when running with a single speaker setup. The stereo delays sometimes sound a little weird when mono-ized. I'm imagining the reverbs might react similarly, given especially that they are just specialized delays. So when creating patches, I'll only use stereo effects if I'm going to be playing through a stereo output, and when I want a stereo effect. This is rock you know... supposed to just slam you in the face straight on, right? (As if I really need to ask)

    Future of Helix

Duplicates? Are you really saying a mesa clean channel and dirty channel are duplicates? From this list, the 3 matchless channels are missing. That would make 53 "amps". I'm not sure why anyone would say that a bass amp doesn't count as an amp?? What, don't bass players count? They count a channel as an amp, because, technically, it is. A typical multichannel "amp" actually contains multiple amplifiers if you think about it, each preamp and amplifier combination could be packaged as an amplifier all by itself. And, in the end, who really cares how many they have... I just want amps that I can use. And I want to be able to vary my sound, so I don't always sound the same. And, in the end, I just wanna play!!!
  13. I'm having similar problems accessing the Line 6 support site with Firefox. It won't let me log in. I was able to access the site through Chrome, though. Edit: I fixed the problem by selecting Help:About Firefox and updated my Firefox install. After it updated, I was able to log in to the support site again.

    Future of Helix

Have you tried to use Workbench to adjust your Variax more to your liking yet? I'm so, shall we say, lost myself in exploring the Helix, I haven't even begun to explore what the Variax can really do beyond its basic settings.
  15. Yeah, problem was pretty much my fault with the chorussy sound, I'm pretty sure it was just me hearing my strings at the same time as the L2t and not realizing it. No idea what the pop was. I hadn't really set the guitar up, so it could have been anything, the bridge might have even been stuck on the threads of one of the supports, and my loosening the strings may have allowed it to pop into place where it belongs, (although I seem to remember it being correct, who knows). As I said, this is my first guitar with a tremolo, so I'm still learning how it should be set up and what it should feel like. I have a friend who is a luthier, I've been planning on bringing it over to him to set the whole guitar up correctly and hope to do that soon. Here's a link to a recording I made tuned to standard... https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/90403703/Variax%20Test.mp3

    Future of Helix

If you look at early Edge work, he used very few effects, pretty much a couple of Memory Man delays, an MXR Compressor and his amps (plus a couple others). I highly recommend you start simple and work your way up.... If you're looking for edgey type sounds, pick a delay, get to know it really well, a compressor and go from there.
  17. I'm pretty sure that @snhirsch is correct. I think because I was playing quieter than normal, my ear was getting confused by the acoustic sound of the guitar. I'm feeling pretty stupid right now  Still don't know what the loud pop was, but there doesn't seem to be any damage other than my ego at this point. I have a friend who's a luthier, I'll be bringing it to him to get the guitar properly set up. Case closed.
  18. Hi, I was physically tuning my JTV-69S (W13XX... Serial #) down to Eb. As I was tuning down the high E, I heard a loud pop! from the bridge. I thought I had broken a string (which was weird to me since I was releasing tension, not adding it). But I realized the strings were still all intact, but they were suddenly way out of tune, varying across from down more than a full step on the Low E to up a half step on the high E. Also, the strings seemed to have less tension overall. And that was completely subjective, and even expected since they were tuned down a half step (this is my first strat style guitar, so I'm still getting used to the feel). I was able to tune it though. I opened the rear spring compartment and saw a couple wood chips around the screw on the low E side... almost as if it had slipped a thread. But perhaps they just weren't cleaned out when the bridge was installed. The guitar is relatively new (I bought it used from Reverb, but it had all it's original packing and even still has the plastic on the rear covers (I had pulled off the front plastic on the pick guard). So, not knowing anything about setting up a floating bridge I tightened the screw some to even it up with the other. Sadly, I didn't look at the position of the bridge before I tightened the screws. Then read up a little on the subject and realized I tightened it a little too much as the bridge was no longer parallel with the body. So I loosened both the screws till it was nearly parallel and went back and forth a few times till it was both parallel and in tune (down a half step). Then I plugged it in, played a little, everything seemed ok. The various models sounded fine to me. Until I tried to use the alternate tunings dial. The 1/2 Step Down has major pitch shifting in it. I tried re-tuning to E and it is still totally unusable. In Drop D tuning, all the strings except the low E sound fine. Before the pop, I've used the alternate tunings and they were totally fine to me. I've checked out the bridge top to bottom, all the strings are still seated properly, I don't see any disconnected wires (it's the new style that goes through the tremolo bar, not around it) either at the bar or under the bridge. All parts look like they are properly in place. I can't imagine what could be wrong. Any thoughts on what's gone wrong and how to fix it? Do I need to connect it to Workbench and somehow reboot/reset it? I can post pictures if necessary. Edit: I notice I also seem to have much more range of motion on the tremolo bar. I could not dive as deep before as I can now. I thought it was weird before, but having never owned a guitar with a tremolo installed, I assumed that was how this one worked. Also, the strings register as the correct tuning per whatever alternate tuning preset when I use the tuner in the Helix to read the signal. Sadly, seems to me the only answer could be a problem with the board :(
  19. Yeah, not that I'm any expert or anything in any way shape or form, but, when I have recorded, I definitely prefer an off-center mic position. I don't understand why L6 didn't include that variation in their IR's. I suppose they figured that's a lot of work, and there's already tons of IR's out there. As if I don't have enough to explore but to go third-party IR, too? sigh I would have preferred if that was in the box and they released with only half the cabs they have. As it seems for you, I also tend to prefer a warmer, less bitey shall we say, Les Paul Humbucker sound. But then, I'm always trying to experiment with different tones. Just picked up my first single coil Fender style guitar (JTV-69S). I can already see I've got a lot to learn on how to use these new tones...
  20. Also, what's the electrical system like at your church? Is a ground loop possible? Are you plugged into the same ground line as the mixer? Is it a hiss or 60 Hz buzz?
  21. Hmm, but the JTV's have magnetic pickups, too... What version variax are you speaking about? Have you tried the newer ones? I haven't noticed a piezo lag time, but I also have not used it a whole lot yet. I get plenty of amp reactivity with it as far as I'm concerned, whether I'm using it with my amp or the Helix, but, that could have more to do with my skill level compared to yours. I only just purchased a Variax JTV-69S, have really barely used it yet, and am still coming to grips with it. I've got different issues than you (I get a lot of pick sound through the magnetics, and string sound I'm not used to against the frets, but that could all be single coil issues and/or playing style issues I need to change, and I don't get it all the time. I'm still trying to understand what it is. I've spent all my life with Gibson double coils, and have never really used a single coil Fender style before. I also need to get it over to my luthier friend to have it set up, which I'm imagining will help some, too.) As far as integrating it with the Helix, I'm still working on understanding all the options I have tonally and technically with workbench and models etc.
  22. All the answers here pretty much answer your question... I'm just adding in that yes, it's hard enough switching guitars during a set, and, given I don't have my own roadies (haha), I hate even more having to switch plugs from one guitar to another. RIght now, I've got my Tokai Les Paul on Guitar-in, and a JTV-69 on VDI input, and I just turn the volume to zero on the guitar I'm not using and can quickly switch back and forth. What's cool about having the JTV is I can switch tunings at the touch of a knob. Currently, I pretty much only use drop-d and 1/2 step, but the ease of use is amazing. I haven't gotten an acoustic sound I like yet out of it, but that's me, I've seen lots of others who love the acoustic sound they get.
