You're in Stomp Mode. That particular parameter only affects Preset Mode. Press MODE and you're golden. :)

Helix FW 2.20 (The "Get Low" Update) OUT NOW
Digital_Igloo replied to Digital_Igloo's topic in Helix
It's not. We greatly prefer to drop firmware updates on people's heads. NAMM is the exception; we didn't want our Helix users thinking we forgot about 'em. If/when LFO reset gets implemented in Helix, that's the implementation plan as well. -
Helix FW 2.20 (The "Get Low" Update) OUT NOW
Digital_Igloo replied to Digital_Igloo's topic in Helix
Nothin' much; we just didn't want to leave anyone hanging for NAMM. If there was no trade show, we probably would've waited until release. 1) Sadly, no. Variax Workbench support requires an update to the software itself, and a large chunk of the original Workbench software would probably have to be re-written. 2) It's on the list of things we'd love to get to, but we're not committing to LFO reset for 2.20. -
Okay, I just spit my energy drink all over the NAMM booth.

Lest y'all have forgotten... Line 6 made the very first amp sim plugin ever—Amp Farm, way back in '98. This is our wheelhouse.

Advantages of Helix Native in the studio: Can run multiple instances simultaneously, on guitar tracks, bass tracks, vocal tracks, synth tracks, busses, or hey—the entire mix if you want Number of blocks is limited by your computer's horsepower, not DSP Instance(s) automatically stored and recalled with your DAW project Helix Hardware doesn't need to be connected Tweaking an already tracked guitar tone doesn't require re-amping (tracking all the way through the song in real time) Advantages of Helix Hardware in the studio: Effectively zero latency, resulting in a better feel Superior analog front end, optimized for tracking instruments 123dB dynamic range on the Guitar Input Digitally-controlled impedance circuit loads your pickups properly for the selected tone Digitally-controlled analog pad Can route external pedals into your signal flow with negligible latency Integrates seamlessly into 4-cable method setups (or 7, 10, and 13-cable method setups) for tracking real amps Simple to integrate realtime control (Wah, Pitch Wham, Volume, etc.) Variax connectivity Tactile feedback Easier to control and edit Snapshots, Command Center, etc. 64 controller assignments (vs. Helix Native's 16 automation lanes) Future Helix features that don't really apply to Native Advantages of using Helix Hardware with Helix Native in the studio: All of the above (best of both worlds) Getting your album's tones ready for touring takes minutes, not days or weeks Getting your tour's tones ready for recording takes minutes, not days or weeks

Like any other plug-in, you can have as many instances as your host computer will allow.

Question: How to bypass other effects when selecting a new one?
Digital_Igloo replied to anthony_jr's topic in Helix
1. Assign two blocks to the same switch. 2. While one is selected, press BYPASS. The switch now toggles between the two. You can assign up to 8 blocks to a single footswitch toggle the bypass states of all of them. However, if you want M13-like only-one-of-three-effects-on-at-once behavior, you'll need to dive into Snapshots. -
Helix Native will ship after 2.20 firmware, which means it'll start with more models than we have now. We won't update the Helix page until the 2.20 firmware is actually released.

Helix FW 2.20 (The "Get Low" Update) OUT NOW
Digital_Igloo replied to Digital_Igloo's topic in Helix
If any of you are at NAMM, we have quite a few 2.20 models in select Helices on the floor... -
The big story is the ability to take your tones from the studio to the stage and back again. A lot of bands will hire programmers to nail their album tones for the tour and the process takes days or weeks. Now the whole thing can be done in a minute or so. Plus, if you're out on tour and create some cool new sounds, it takes a minute to put them back in your computer for the next album. STUDIO > STAGE > STUDIO

Select “Off†(Helix does not transmit clock), “MIDI†(Helix transmits clock from only the MIDI OUT jack), “USB†(Helix transmits clock only via USB), or “MIDI+USB†(Helix transmits clock from both MIDI and USB) - Global Settings > MIDI/Tempo > Receive MIDI Clock—Helix can now synchronize its time-based effects (such as delay and modulation) to incoming MIDI clock from external DAW software, drum machines, keyboard workstations, or other modelers. Select “Off†(Helix ignores MIDI clock), “MIDI†(Helix responds to clock received at its MIDI IN jack), “USB†(Helix responds to clock received via USB), or “Auto†(Helix uses its internal tempo generator until receiving clock from either MIDI or USB) - Variax Workbench HD Support—Variax can now communicate directly with Variax Workbench HD software (Mac/PC) through Helix via USB. - Global Settings > MIDI/Tempo > MIDI PC Send/Receive has been split into two separate parameters—MIDI PC Receive and MIDI PC Send—and moved to Page 2. In addition, you may choose whether Helix sends or receives MIDI PC (program change) messages to/from MIDI, USB, both, or neither - Clear Bypass Assignment—Individual blocks’ bypass assignments can now be cleared. From the Bypass Assign screen, select the block whose bypass assignment(s) you wish to clear. Press ACTION and then Knob 1 (Clear Assignments). - Line 6 Allure Pack IRs—Dan Boul of 65 Amps has created a pack of six user impulse responses for use with Helix or any other modeler or software that supports them. Download the free Allure Pack here: http://line6.com/allure/ Improvements/Changes - Optimized GUI engine speeds up navigation and model selection - Receive MIDI Clock and Send MIDI Clock have also been added to the Tempo panel shortcut. At any time, touch TAP to open the Tempo panel. - When slaved to external MIDI clock, TAP’s scribble strip text grays out and its switch LED ring flashes blue - Reverb > Plate, Room, Chamber, Hall, Echo, Tile, Cave, Ducking, and Octo have all been optimized to be less DSP-intensive - Pitch > Pitch Wham, Twin Harmony, Simple Pitch, Dual Pitch, and 3 OSC Synth have all been optimized to be less DSP-intensive - Non-selected Pedal Edit parameter switches now reflect dim block color - Inactive Looper function switches now appear as dim white - Additions to and improvements made to the existing factory preset bundle Bug Fixes - In very rare cases, corrupted presets containing a Volume/Pan > Volume Pedal block can cause volume to drop to 0% - FIXED - Certain Roland keyboards constantly spit out active sensing MIDI messages (with no way to disable them), which could affect Helix’s MIDI transmission - FIXED - The Channel Volume taper for the Archetype amp model was incorrect - FIXED - Many other minor bug fixes and optimizations Known Issues - If a Variax guitar is connected to Helix, MIDI channel 16 should never be used, as channel 16 is how Variax Workbench communicates with the guitar. This is by design. On a related note, Variax Workbench should never be used while MIDI tracks are armed or playing back in your DAW - In rare cases, Helix may freeze when very rapidly changing presets while receiving MIDI clock - Helix’s blue TAP LED flashes but tempo is not actually synced unless an audio device is selected in Ableton Live - Subtle stepping may be heard when adjusting the main VOLUME knob while audio is present - If a user fails to read and follow the update instructions, Helix will engage Snapshot 2 in preset 8 Templates > 32D every day at 4:30 AM

I swear I'm trying..(Updated w/pix after 2.12 update)
Digital_Igloo replied to jordans0nly's topic in Helix
Try decent high-impedance headphones. Try studio monitors. Jumping straight from a real tube amp to a modeler/PA rig can be very jarring. And remember, 50+% of your tone is determined by a B¢£™¶§@er PA speaker! Sometimes it seems like there are people everywhere who buy a modeler and instantly say "Holy crap! This is amazing!" Chances are they've had some experience with tracking guitars with mics and know what they sound like from the control room. Or they're used to hearing them via in-ear monitors. The experience of a modeler into even the best FRFR speaker or $100k studio monitors is still very different from that of a roaring tube amp. Best of luck on your journey! :) -
We add/remove/swap/change/tweak presets pretty much every FW release, some more than others. Unfortunately, any list would be out of date quickly.

There won't be new Helix FW available for download at NAMM. Doesn't mean we won't have Helix-related news, however.

I like it. :)

Helix lifts off the ground when I use the pedal toe switch
Digital_Igloo replied to Thurston9's topic in Helix
Part of the reason (a small part) we use sculpted, rounded side panels is to incentivize people into placing Helix on a flat, hard surface instead of thick carpet. It helps with heat dissipation. You could almost say we made it easy for the left corner to flip up on purpose. ;) -
If the Korg doesn't always have to be active, you can assign Helix's tuner to feed your Korg instead: Press and hold TAP/TUNER. Turn Knob 2 (Output) to select Send 1/2 (or Send 3/4). Connect Send 1 or 2 (or 3 or 4) to your Korg. Now anytime you engage Helix's tuner, it'll send your signal to your Korg. If the Korg does have to always be active: Add a Send/Return > Send 1 (or 2, 3, or 4) block as the first item on Path 1A. Connect Send 1 (or 2, 3, or 4) to your Korg.

Either of these may work, if their notion of Bnk is Bank LSB (CC32) and not Bank MSB (CC00). Not sure SAW lets you choose.

If Marcus lets me, I might post a couple screenshots from our old touchscreen version. There were two big reasons (and lots of little ones) why we didn't go touchscreen: Everybody HATED our initial UI emulation, which isn't notably different from what appears on Headrush (except for the number of simultaneous blocks and visible parameters). Lots of "that looks like an iOS modeler," "I don't want to reach down," "I hate finger smudges," "will it work in the heat of a gig?" "what if I spill something?" etc. Admittedly, this surprised us—much of the sentiment was more psychological than pragmatic/legitimate—and sent us down a lot of rabbit holes. This was three or four years ago at this point, so opinions regarding touchscreens on floor processors very well may have changed since then. To be honest, we felt the next Helix would probably have a touchscreen anyway, but decided baby steps was the best way to get there (not unlike how Apple added the touchstrip to their highly maligned new MBPs—you know a full touchscreen MBP is coming). The first step would be Helix's large color LCD. Guitarists are used to focusing on pedalboards, not signal flows on LCDs. Cap switches were the big turning point for Helix's UI; the ability to instantly get to the parameters assigned to the things you actually perform with (the switches) was critical. A touchscreen means you're focusing on the preset blocks instead of the performing. At one point we were talking about dimming everything but the preset name and inspector parameters to get them out of the way, but decided it was unnecessary. Everyone should be navigating with the footswitches anyway. The joystick should only be used when selecting a block that's not already assigned to a switch.

Open the Helix application. You don't even need Helix connected. From the Help menu, select "Helix Application Pilot's Guide." The keyboard shortcut list starts on page 16.

Forget to check this thread, but we added three new keyboard shortcuts back in 2.10: - Snapshot Assign Shortcut—OPTION-click (Mac) or ALT-click (PC) any Home screen parameter to quickly assign its value to the Snapshots controller - Unassign Controller Shortcut—SHIFT-OPTION-click (Mac) or SHIFT-ALT-click (PC) any Home screen parameter to instantly remove any controller assignment - Exit Fullscreen Mode Shortcut—Press ESC to exit fullscreen mode
-
Just bug fixes and under-the-hood enhancements, but worth it.

Updated thread to 2.12 (released Jan 9, 2017).
