  1. Try this: From a brand new empty preset, route Path 1 into Path 2. After the Amp block on Path 1, place a 1,024 IR block. On Path 2, place a 2,048 IR block with the exact same IR and settings as the one on Path 1. Assign both IR blocks to the same footswitch. While one is selected, press BYPASS. Now you can toggle between the 1,024 and 2,048 versions of the IR to see whether you can hear a difference (and if you can, whether or not that difference is worth the DSP hit).
  2. Silly blyoung62, it doesn't work if you read but purposely dismiss the instructions. The whole point of taking over your car radio with Death Metal Polka is the manifestation of shock and awe. And dry heaves.
  3. Interesting... But if your hands are already at the level of Helix's top panel, why not use the dedicated knobs/buttons? They're way faster: From Stomp footswitch mode, touch the footswitch assigned to the desired block and turn Knobs 1-6. If necessary, press [<PAGE][PAGE>] to view more parameters. Pedal Edit mode is expressly designed to be used when your hands are on your guitar. I'd be more open to it if a few people didn't already confuse normal preset editing (hands) with Pedal Edit mode (feet).
  4. Or the "Line 6 All Model Names Must Fit Within 16 Characters Including Spaces So If You Consider 'Line 6' With Spaces Is Seven Characters You Have Nine Left With Which To Differentiate Said Model Name."
  5. Aww shucks. I just help pick the amps; Ben is really the genius behind the modeling. Sam, our new Sound Designer is the brainchild behind the new SD-1, and he's already neck-deep into modeling amps and effects for the next update. I named a few presets after friends' inside jokes; that's all I need. :)
  6. Snapshots don't remember block positions. They can, however remember both Split > A/B parameters and Gain block on/off which can determine which paths are active.
  7. Not opposed to this at all, but there is the Adriatic Delay. And the KWB is a model of his own boutique pedal.
  8. Remember, FS9/10 resets your Global Settings as well. If they're not set up the same way as before—say, 1/4" outs are now at line level instead of instrument level—of course things will sound different.
  9. The FS9/10 reset, you mean? If you don't do the reset, Helix could potentially unleash demons from Wal•Mart and eat your loved ones. If one follows the update instructions, any Guitar In-Z parameters should recall correctly, as they're now part of the Input block.
  10. Yeah, the Archon's got a lot going on under the hood. It's more DSP-intensive than a lot of other amps.
  11. Highlight the boost. Press MENU and then Knob 1 (Bypass Assign). Turn Knob 1 (Switch) to "None" and press HOME to exit.
  12. If we sell half a million Helices, I'll write a supplemental guide with my own blood. :D Phil's right—there are a billion ways to use Helix, and it's impossible to cover even 1% of them in 1000 pages. I suppose we could meticulously wax poetic over every parameter in every model (which would simply echo what's already been written dozens of times about the original amp or pedal), but the number one goal of any technical writer is to create something that people will actually read. The more succinct a manual is, the more likely someone will actually go to the trouble of absorbing it. It's not laziness on our part; brevity was by design.
  13. The editor is installed separately.
  14. If one's presets sound notably different after updating, it's because they didn't redo their global settings the same way or didn't load their IRs into the right locations. Yes, we realize the update process is a pain and we're working on fundamental file system changes that'll make it seamless. There are very good reasons why we can't do it right now, but it'll all make sense in 2017. In the meantime, if you're scared of the update process, don't update.
  15. No there aren't. Proof: I wrote the manual.
  16. CS is in the process of collecting all the old presets and uploading them to CustomTone. There will probably be a knowledge base article with links.
  17. The impedance parameter controls an actual analog impedance circuit that's found only in the Guitar input. It has no affect on the Variax input.
  18. MIDI sync is indeed needed. Question for you guys: How important is it to be able to manually disable SPP reception and just have Helix freewheel? Is it acceptable to always respond to SPP and therefore, lock mod blocks' LFOs to the downbeat, even if sending multiple play messages might make the LFOs glitch when re-syncing?
  19. That's the idea behind all Line 6 original amp models (like Fatality and Litigator). An idealized, optimized amp model not beholden to the quirks, inconsistencies, and inadequacies of the real thing.
  20. There are only a few missing features left that make me think "It's STUPID that Helix can't do this," and Variax Workbench support is on that short list. Snapshots were a huge one—check. Auto engage was another big one—check. The action panel for Bypass Assign (where you can clear all Bypass Assignments) was more of a completist thing for me personally, as all the other menus had action panels. If anything, I just want the list done so we can focus on cool, crazy things that people don't expect. Checking off lists is exhausting and boring.
  21. Yeah, that's probably my fault. I told our graphic designer to make the amp look "Dad Rock." The ODS had that sort of diamond pattern that looks like a sweater vest that a dad might wear, so that was probably the inspiration. There are two or three other easter eggs I swore people would find sooner. Yes, the name is a Blues Lawyer reference. No Dumble (or Dumble clone, such as a TwoRock or Carol Ann) was modeled for Line 6 Litigator, but Ben has an amazing ear, and perhaps there was some subconscious inspiration when creating it.
  22. Of course now you can with 2.10. :)
  23. Both Rats and Big Muffs can sound radically different from one another, so it may simply be our Rat and Big Muff sound different from yours. Try placing them in the very first block location on Path 1A and set the Input block's Guitar In-Z parameter to "Auto." That'll ensure Helix is loading your guitar's pickups with the same impedance as the original pedal.
