  1. The speakers in Spider IV amps are designed to give a cleaner sound than typical guitar speakers (as the amp does modeling which includes the output sound).
  2. Glad you got it worked out - I had to do the same thing (use a different computer).
  3. Have you saved all your user patches to a computer using Spider Edit? I'd suggest doing so, then doing a factory reset to see if that cures the problem.
  4. The preset patches in the user area that come from the factory are just duplicated from the artist/song patches contained int hose preset areas - you can just 'write over' them. You'll want to set the channel volumes in your patches so they are more-or-less the same when you switch from one to the next (except when you want a boost for a lead patch, of course), so that you adjust your overall volume with your master volume based on your set up - practice room, gig, etc.
  5. If you keep the volume down on the crown (no more than 1/2), you'll be fine. But if you accidentally crank the volume too high, you could blow out speakers.
  6. For each pair of speakers: Speaker 1 terminal A to jack, Speaker 1 terminal B to Speaker 2 Terminal A, Speaker 2 Terminal B to jack. Make sure you wire each pair the same way to each jack, so they are in phase with each other.
  7. Do a factory reset on the amp, then make sure you have firewall and anti-virus software shut off on your computer and try to do the update again.
  8. Do a factory reset on the amp, then start the update procedure again.
  9. Don't do it! Although it would seem correct, it is the load presented to the amp that is important: speakers to amp, not amp to speakers. Your Y adapter will take the two 4 ohm loads and parallel them to 2 ohms! If the cabinet you have is 8 ohms mono 4 ohms stereo, chances are that the 4 speakers in it are 8 ohms each , and the wiring is parallel for each pair of speakers, with the two sides being connected in series when bridged to mono. Short of adding some 4 ohm power resistors in series into each speaker 'side', your best bet is to wire each pair of the stereo side as series, giving 16 ohms per side.
  10. BTW, you don't install the tones on your Shortboard, it is just a controller and a device to let your computer and amp communicate. The tones are stored in your amp.
  11. Ok, you're close .... The Spider IV has 16 User Banks of tones. Each bank has 4 patch locations. That's a total of 64 user patches you can program. You cannot access the presets (artist and song) with your Shortboard, but you can access all the user patches there are A/B/C/D buttons and UP/DOWN buttons on the shortboard. Use the UP/DOWN to go go through user banks 1-16. Use the A/B/C/D buttons to select the patch in that particular user bank. So save your 'Clean' sound in Bank 1 (or whichever bank number you choose) patch A'; add the distortion sound you want, then save that to Bank 1 patch B; add the phaser, adjust tone and volume as needed, then save that to Bank 1 patch C; adjust sound - remove phaser, add delay, etc, save to Bank 1 patch D. In a band situation, I used to have one bank set up as 'clean', on A, boosted volume on B, distortion on C, boost an distortion on D. Another bank (for keyboards) was clean, chorus, boost, chorus+boost. You can set up some generic banks for your jamming, and if you need to make a change to the sound while doing this, just adjust the appropriate amp control - no different than if you had to reach down and adjust a control on one of your pedals.
  12. You can see the calibration method here: http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/effects-controllers/fbv-mki-mkii-controllers/fbvshortboardexpressfbv2-mk-i-and-ii-contr-r506
  13. Old fluorescent lights can also produce noise picked up by guitar pickups.
  14. + 1 to TheRealZap! DO NOT hook up your amp to a computer via LAN connector - it will fry components in your amp.
  15. Ok, so the tone (not pitch) does not change in wah mode, and volume does not change in volume mode? Have you calibrated the pedal? It's possible the settings have been changed in your amp for the pedal, too - you can adjust the 'heel' level and 'toe' level in both wah and volume modes. It's also possible the CAT 5 connector or cable is at fault.
  16. Yes, you can connect each Marshall cabinet to one side of the Spider HD150 - one cabinet will be the left output, one the right. Don't know anything about the Marhsall cabinets, but I assume they have mono inputs as well as stereo, and these need to be 8 ohms or higher impedance.
  17. You can't use the pedal for both WAH and pitch control at the same time.
  18. Did you try a factory reset? WIth the amp's power off, hold down the 'clean' button and turn the power on - hold the button for 8-15 seconds before releasing.
  19. Can you be more specific - what was happening before, now nothing works? Does Spider Monkey detect the Shortboad when you hook it up to the computer with USB? Its possible your CAT5 cable (connection to the amp) is bad?
  20. You'll (most likely) have to update the firmware, by using a FBV MkII controller pedal, registering hte amp at line6.com and using Spider Monkey.
  21. Because the software has changed, the same knob settings do NOT give the same sounds. Do you have an FBV MkII Shortboard? Only the MkII models allow communication between the series IV amps and Spider Edit.
  22. You have to select the Sonic Port as your default audio playback device in Windows.
  23. No, chorus, delay and reverb are not FX that have continuously adjustable parameters on them - you can set the parameters for various levels, but not change them 'on the run' with a pedal. The most common use for having two control pedals is volume and wah.
  24. The 150 has left and right speaker output jacks - both must be connected to a load/speaker cab otherwise you may burn out a section of the amp - it's in the FAQs.
  25. Unfortunately, only by tweeking (knob controls or using Spider Edit as Jimmikatt sugggests) until you get what you like.
