  1. The "trick" is to set the effect mix something less than 100%
  2. You can switch it off with the switch that's inside Helix. One thing to consider is that the switch needs to be pressed quite a forcefully. Maybe you're not stepping on the pedal hard enough?

    dual cabs week..

Changing the 1-st cab in dual cab block resets the second cab to default. So after you've decided what you want to use for the second cab, don't go changing the first, or you have to choose the second one again.

    dual cabs week..

Also beware of the second cab reset bug.
  5. 4x12 Uber T75 20 Dynamic 4038 Ribbon Can be good, but depends on the instrument and the song.
  6. It'd be nice if it were possible to pan the dual cab's to center (mono) without an additional block. With very different cabs / mics the stereo image tends to get unbalanced. Speaking of mono, I'd like a mono version of a spring reverb too. I like to use it before the cab, sometimes before the amp. This makes a difference only if the mono version would use less processor resources.
  7. I managed to fix the squeak on my Helix. 1) loosened the pedal hex bolt to the point where I could fit a narrow sheet metal ruler between the bushings. 2) applied a thin layer of teflon oil to both sides of the ruler edge - thin enough that it didn't drip 3) inserted the ruler under the pedal from the heel right side between the bushings 4) rocked the pedal a couple of times to get the oil to stick 5) removed the ruler, rocked some more, tightened the bolt and kept on rocking :)
  8. Also experiencing the dreaded squeak. Won't ship the unit for just this though as it's very inconvenient, potentially expensive to do so. I hope it's possible to add some grease without opening the unit. With a thin sheet metal strip perhaps, a razor blade?
  9. No need to create blocks for this, just select returns 1/2 or 3/4 as stereo input.
  10. I just want to mention that it's not possible to get identical signal from aux and guitar in - at least I couldn't. So, I play the Chapman Stick with ACTV-2 through returns 1/2 set to "instrument" level. It is a bit quiet though (about 10dB less compared to guitar from guitar in). So, I add a gain block to every patch to boost the levels. I find that I don't actually boost 10dB, but somewhere around 5dB, since to me the amps sound better that way. But since you have the preamp, the gain shouldn't be an issue.
  11. Maybe this will help? http://www.strymon.net/strymon-tech-corner-2-build-your-own-expression-pedal/
  12. Same with the Moog pedal with TRS cable - works well, just backwards.
  13. Changing the 1-st cab in dual cab block resets the second cab to default. Firmware 1.06.05.
  14. This might be an interesting addition to the Helix FX loop: http://www.logidy.com/ If not using VST-s in a computer, that is.
  15. Good to know at least. Nothing special yet at the sound department, just checking out different amps to decide what does what the best.
  16. First of all, I'm very pleased that I got Helix, it's all working without a fault and it's excellent! Since I'm not using guitar, but rather a Chapman Stick, I have a couple of questions about the correct or optimal input level settings. As I understand - if the input level's aren't correct, all the distortion pedals and amp don't behave as they're intended. The stick that I have is a stereo instrument with active pickups, but their output level is rather low. For now I've decided to use returns 1/2 as inputs (instrument level). I tried also Guit and Aux inputs, but it wasn't possible to match them in input levels, at least I didn't know how (tried guit in pad, several impedance settings). I added a gain block with +10DB gain (no other effects or blocks), measured the levels in a DAW and I got about the same level from my instrument compared to a guitar that was connected to "Guit in". This sort of works, but for one I lose one block just for the levels and can't really test factory or other people's patches, since they don't sound as intended. Question: Is there a better way to adjust the input gain? Wish: I wish there was a global input gain control as well as input/output level meters - it's a bit cumbersome as it's now.

    Helix FAQ

Would having a delay pedal in FX loop create sort of a spillover type thing? Or would the external delay be cut out as well? If the FX loop were on in both patches? Waiting for Helix :)
  18. You can do it with any DAW I guess. With Reaper for an example. Test it with an amp + cab VST. Then import and mix the two files with appropriate balance. Or why just too, use a whole lot of them :)
  19. Anybody tried to process with EQ the actual IR wav files? Might give some interesting results.
  20. Good idea actually. I'll check out the prices. Would be convenient in one device though and might have more control over them. EDIT: Patch sharing wouldn't work otherwise. There's some benefit having it all in one device.
  21. It would be great if some time in the future, there would be also some "lower quality" versions of effects and amps. While not as accurate or possibly not as good sounding, they would provide the option to use them in situations, where it's more important to get one more effect in the signal chain than the uber quality. So, low resource versions of FX are useful too. Maybe it's just not the way Helix works...
  22. Or this: http://www.jamorigin.com/products/midi-guitar/
  23. Cool, it's possible then, provided that the audio interface works without glitches.
