  1. Thanks, also a nice workaround for getting independent control of the two outputs. Sure, there are all kinds of options as soon as you start using the parameter knobs including just turning the 'Ch Vol' knob up or down, although that will affect both monitor and FOH volumes potentially forcing you to use the master volume in addition to dial one of them back. More importantly using a parameter knob requires having the correct block up on the screen or being in the right mode. The objective is to have an always available dedicated control like the Master volume. Don't want to make a mountain out of a molehill. I just think a design that provides a separate volume knob for both FOH and stage monitor is more ideal. Was hoping just enhancing the firmware for the Headphones knob would easily accomplish that but due to its apparent analog operation that seems unlikely.
  2. I was referring to the 2.21 "Helix" app coming up on the Line6 downloads page. It should not matter what version of the OS you are on regarding finding the download as it is being done through a browser, e.g. (Chrome, IE, etc.). The trick is knowing which bits you need. Anyway, glad you got it sorted out.
  3. Many would agree and say that Line6 working on delivering new and better HX reverbs would be time well spent after Native is delivered.
  4. The 2.21 "Helix" application does come up when you select "All Software" as the option for the Helix LT with "Windows 7" selected for the OS. I do agree it can be a bit confusing when you are new to the update process and are not aware that you need the entire package (Editor, Updater, driver) and not just the Updater to properly upgrade to the latest firmware.. Line6 is working on improving and simplifying the update process.
  5. I don't do this either, my master volume control has only the 1/4 ouput I run to my stage monitor assigned to it. The signal level going to the FOH is solely dependent on the preset's output level. I also share the same concern as you that using the headphone amp as my sound source might color or alter things in unpredictable ways. That is why, when needed, it would be nice to have an additional quick and easy independent digital volume control on the Helix such that one controls the stage monitor and one controls the FOH. Note: I always appreciate someone providing a workaround even if it is not ideal for my purposes, if not me, it may help someone else. Thanks. :)
  6. You want to get the correct version matching your firmware, of the Editor, (if required the driver), as well as the Updater. All three of these are contained in the "Helix" application which is what you want to download and install after making backups up with your current version. The general download link is: http://line6.com/software/ If you include your firmware version, the Helix version (Helix, Rack, LT), and your OS, I can provide you the specific link you need. The "Helix" app version should match your firmware. When you upgrade the firmware next, after backups, you will want to download and install the newest or matching version of the "Helix" application.
  7. Hopefully the title of this topic will end up being "Firmware upgrade glitch and then scribble strip glitch". I second the motion and agree with the post above. There is always the possibility of the scribble strip problem being persistent and not actually related to the upgrade but it it more likely the firmware upgrade did not take properly. Try doing another update and global reset as phil_m suggested with the latest and greatest 2.21 firmware and see if that fixes it.
  8. This^^^. The rotary effect on the Helix is like any of the many separate pedals that can be purchased that emulate a Leslie. It would be cool to see IRs in the future that have accurately modeled a Leslie. I would bet that those IRs would have to be a lot larger file size and of longer duration to capture this effect faithfully if it is even possible. They might require a different kind of IR implementation as well.
  9. Go to this link and dial up the correct version of your Helix and OS: http://line6.com/software/ You will want to download and install the 2.21 version of the "Helix" application. This will install the latest versions of the Editor, Updater, and Driver on your computer.
  10. Many bands run their own sound from stage. Maybe you have a soundman that may not be paying attention or not giving the guitarist enough in the mix. A certain preset may not be leveled correctly and you need to quickly boost it. Reaching down and quickly having control over your FOH and stage mix can be a lot easier than navigating the board's controls or trying to get the soundman's attention. Generally the main large volume knob is assigned either to both FOH and your stage monitor or one or the other. The objective is to have two separate knobs that can control the FOH and stage mix independently. The Headphones volume knob would have been a prime candidate for that setup if it was digitally routed rather than analog (probably had good reasons for this). It would be nice to have an extra digitally assigned volume control on the next version of the Helix.
  11. Some would say the best results are to be had by just using the Helix as an effects only device or at the very least without the cab modeling when going into the front of an amp. Strictly speaking that is probably true but I think it is perfectly legit to use amp and/or cab modeling with a traditional guitar amp as well. Let your ears be the judge, if it sounds good, do it. You may find you have to limit the EQ of the low and high end to your liking as well as apply some custom EQ in other areas depending on how your amp responds to the Helix. You should be able to get a great sound out of it either way. Getting the signal level correct from the Helix to your guitar amp is also critical. Ultimately I have to admit I prefer running modelers through an FRFR but there are different virtues to all kinds of monitoring solutions.
  12. Just trying to have two easily accessible physical volume knobs, one for whatever you are using to monitor the signal on stage and the other for the level you are sending to FOH.
  13. Great suggestion given the limitations/features of the Headphones volume control.
  14. This sounds like you need to go to any one of your presets with an Input block that has the Variax selected and change the 'Variax Settings' parameter to "Per Preset". This should return all of your Variax presets to honoring the custom settings. Even though the 'Variax Settings' parameter is located within a preset it actually is a global setting that affects all other presets with Variax input blocks.
  15. In addition to the 'mighty wind on your back', another huge benefit of having an FRFR or guitar cab on stage for monitoring is that you can get guitar feedback, you know, the good kind. That is the one major drawback of using IEMs, no way to get proper feedback other than some kind of feedbacker effect.
  16. There is a big difference between an FX Send on a guitar amp which is a line level signal (or in that ballpark) coming from your guitar amp's preamp section, and the "Speaker Out" which is coming from the power amp section and should never be plugged into an effect or modeling unit. You want to use the FX Send from your amp to the Helix loop's Return. The amp's "Speaker Out" is only designed to go to an internal speaker or external speaker cabinet which can handle the high level output from the power amp as well as provide the proper load (e.g. generally 4-16ohms depending) to keep your amp from frying. Any time you want to run a combo amp or head without a speaker you need to use a load box or you can fry your amp. The load box, similar to a speaker or speaker cabinet, provides the necessary resistance to the power amp section of your amp to prevent it from pushing too hard and overheating and causing damage. Many load boxes in addition to the output that goes to the speaker, also have a direct output which steps the signal down to a line level signal suitable for running directly to a PA or if you choose, to an effect or modeling device. Some amps also include a direct out on the back which can be used this way.
  17. There is no way that I am aware of to change a parameter simultaneously for a limited subset of snapshots e.g. only the overdrive snapshots. Snapshot assignment, at least for right now, is an "all or each" proposition. There is currently no way to designate that a parameter value change only affects one subset of snapshots and not another. The method DI suggested is for assigning, for example, a volume parameter to all snapshots (press & turn method). This allows you to set a different value for that parameter in each snapshot. For example, you can assign the Amp block's 'Ch Vol' to snapshots which enables you to set each snapshot's volume differently so you can level them up to each other.. If you want to be able to change a parameter to the same value simultaneously for all the snapshots in a preset, then don't assign the parameter to snapshots. Parameter not assigned to snapshot = Parameter change affects all snapshots simultaneously. Parameter assigned to snapshot = Parameter value can be set differently for all snapshots. All snapshots will have the initial value when the parameter is first assigned to snapshots but can now be changed in each snapshot independently of one another.
  18. Good on them!! Just awesome! Let's throw caution to the wind and make it five years. :P
  19. Not sure where this conversation started but I think Peter may have been referring to changing the "Headroom" parameter in the delay block on the Helix, not on the computer. You'll want to Increase the Headroom setting. Start at the max setting and see if that helps.
  20. I have many presets setup with two or three different channels of the same amp or even different amps. I switch between them using snapshots as phil_m alluded to. I generally have them share the same cab or IR to preserve DSP. It sometimes takes some creative juggling across a Super Serial X2 routing to get everything I want in the preset but still sharing the same effect blocks.
  21. When you depress the tuner to engage it, the first parameter will be 'Input'. Just turn the value to "Mic".
  22. Hmm, sorry to hear that. I would love to hear that confirmed by Line6 although maybe that is who the quote was from originally. Too bad if so because I think it would be a great alternative for the Headphones volume knob to be used on stage.
  23. Please support this excellent idea by @drutang to give the Headphone volume knob the option to be assigned to XLR, 1/4, etc. just as the main volume knob is currently configured. This would give us two easy to use, always available controls, for our stage and FOH volumes. Vote it up!! https://line6.ideascale.com/a/idea-v2/859679
  24. Yes, make sure you back up your presets and IRs first as this will delete all the user setlists and IRs and overwrite the Factory and Template lists with the latest and greatest from Line6. It will also reset your global settings. You absolutely want to do the reset however as it is part of Line6's procedure from the firmware release notes following a firmware upgrade. Your Helix(or you :P ) may experience strange behavior or problems with restored presets in the future if you don't do the global reset.
