  1. Yeah, I agree the tech is a bit dated and sounded maybe not quite as good as the counter part but the flexibility of it is just hard to beat. I play wide variety of music and I have been using mine to replicate other musician’s tones. As for writing music, it opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Would cool if Line 6 released another model with helix’s tech inside and than perhaps the lines will blur a little more. I was also surprised how much my JTV-89 stays in tune so well.
  2. I guess you can run the helix and Firehawk 1500 the other way too: dry signal: 1/4” from the helix into the guitar in and the XLR our into the input of the Firehawk 1500 and just make a patch in helix where you send your effects and your amp/speaker out of the 1/4” into the guitar in of the Firehawk and have another path (wet signal) with your all your after effects(delay/reverb) going out from the XLR into the the Firehawk 1500 monitor ins.
  3. Sorry for the confusion. I just run my helix into the Firehawk 1500 in stereo not wet/dry/wet because I purchased a DT50 and a g70 and split the signal and sent one to the DT50’s guitar input and the other into my helix and than into my Firehawk 1500 and another line from my helix into the return of my effects loop of the DT50 and would experiment with songs of mine to see what sounded best. Some of my patches are very effects heavy and I end of losing my dry signal so I got the tube amp to bring that instead.
  4. Never tried but you could possible hook up a midi controller and program it to control the looper or pickup a external looper and connect to one(or two for stereo) of the loops in the helix. Or bite the bullet and put the unit on the floor.
  5. That is simple enough: I connect helix XLR outs into the Monitor ins on the Firehawk and one 1/4” out on the helix into the guitar in on the Firehawk 1500 and set a blank preset so that I only hear my helix presets. Sounds great! I believe what Chad was showing is how to run it Wet/Dry/Wet; which is cool, but I don’t run mine that way. I haven’t programmed the midi between the two units but should be pretty straight forward. Might take some trial and error but I am sure it is doable.
  6. I use a Catalinbread SFT(a deadly foundation overdrive pedal) in one of my loops to emulate Josh Homme(QOTSA) tone and never have a problem with noise, other than the wanted distortion it does so very well. Plus, putting it in one of the loops allows you to move it anywhere in the chain. Maybe it is a grounding issue?
  7. hopefully this helps I know that I had problems at first properly assigning parameters to the expression pedal or footswitches. I would think it is moving the parameters after “programming it” but I would hear no changes. That is when I figured what I was doing.
  8. It wasn’t made for it but they are both midi compliant: so, you should be able to. I have both products and I use them together. I was going to try and test it out but I have too busy to give it a shot. Should be able to hook up a midi cable and program the two devices. What do you want to accomplish?
  9. Though, I find it much easier when the to juggle when chipmunks are dead.
  10. Thats easy! Too wurds bruh: snapshots!
  11. Just put this bad boy in one of your loops(or two for stereo and be done). I only use the looper for trying out ideas and not often either. I find it easier just making backing tracks to jam live to instead of the looping because I have seen and heard a few looping nightmares live.
  12. You can assign a single footswitch to activate/deactivate multiple parameters the same way that you assigned your other effects. Or you can utilize the snapshot mode to just set what effects on each individual snapshot.
  13. I got a used JTV-89 for about 500$ from Long Mcquade(music retailer in Canada) about a little over year ago and it has become my main guitar now. With the alternate tuning option I have been able to expand my setlists with tunes I normally wouldn’t do(too lazy to bring multiple guitars to shows). I do love the acoustic option specially after treating the signal with some eq, compressor, preamp tube, delay and reverb: it sounds great, I get a lot of compliments on it. Some of my songs go from heavy Lead PRS Archeon tone to an acoustic guitar and the variax makes it so much easier. The helix/variax integration is just awesome. Another thing that I never thought I would use, is when copying someone else’s tone, to use the guitar models(even in standard tuning). Like Josh Homme: early QOSTA tone use Les Paul model, for latter stuff the Hollowbody models and for his Them Crooked Vultures a Tele or Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day)set to Special on the neck position. All this and more makes me want another one and hopfully in the future that they released a new model with Helix level of modeling and a bass variax model. Not crazy about the twelve string models though I have used them. Perhaps updated tech could fix that. I also love the magnetic pickups in the JTV-89. Variax are just fun instruments specially with what you can do with them with the Helix. Just check out Twleve Foot Ninja to show you some of the possibilities.
  14. You can Check our this hand video by Line 6.
  15. Before using my Firehawk 1500 I was using my home PA; which, is a set of yorkville NX750, that sounded great and anytime hit up the open mic’s up in town I just run it through their PA system(QSC, JBL and Electro Voice) and it sounds great as long as the sound guy knows what he is doing. In my studio I have a set of yorkville monitors that sound good, too. Helix just sounds great period.
  16. No problem.
  17. You can add it to ideascale and get people to vote on it. There is a hm-2 Boss Heavy Metal in the legacy distortions ever since firmware 2.5.
  18. I would love to see some improvements on the variax side of things. Like many have suggested before, getting helix’s technology into a variax. I love my variax but it would be nice to see some improvements considering that the tech inside of the variax is eight years old and in computer years is a long time. Plus, would love to see a variax bass guitar. Totally stoked about the polyphonic, feedback, and new models that will come in the future.

Thanks for all that helpful information. When I get sometime I will give that a shot and see how it works. As for the placement: I learned that experiment running my digitech rp360xp into one of my fx loops and placing behind the speaker model seems to sound the best to me too. Will let you know if I get it figured out or not.
