Hey Scott, probably the wrong setting for this post, but i was hoping i could talk you into a video showcasing the useage of the sag, ripple, hum, bias and biasX controls? or how they can be used to benefit the tones. I hear what they are doing, and i semi understand the theory behind most of the controls, but with soooooo many other options, it almost seems a little difficult to make intelligent use of them. Not only that, but often their response varies because they are dependent on other settings. Ive been playing 30 years, but biasing an amp is something that ive never even considered attempting, and just left that for the shop.not to mention biasX Thanks for any interest you may or may not take in this request.

Youre arguing semantics. The bottom line is that if a company is going to release a new chip 3 months down the road, or replace a $1500 product a year down the road, they need to make that abundantly clear to people, otherwise theyre just trying to push theyre old stock off on to people. They knew it was on its way...... How would you feel if you bought a variax and a week later they come out with another that sounds way better, plays way better, looks way better? I know i wouldnt be too overjoyed. Id tend to think "man if idve known that, i would have just waited." .
-
Why anybody would ever use anything other than Win7 for an audio computer is beyond me.
-
Ive come up with a couple real good sounding presets where the delay or chorus or whatever is in front of the amp. Helix seems to play nice with these "odd ball configurations", so if its good, go with it. If anyone needs to tell you how to arrange the blocks, there are other lessons you need to catch up on.
-
On top of what the others said, the editor also allows you to skip steps that the hardware wouldnt allow. For instance you could go from preset 1A to 11C in a single click.....just one of a few things off the top of my head.
-
You can probably read the whole manual in 10 minutes. Between that and running thru the presets. i dont think you'll be sweating much.
-
With ya. Needs a bit of attention yet, but yeah, huge time saver.
-
Just use a mono adapter. Id bet the headphone outs cant be altered in that way...at least not thru the menus.

Because for some people $1500 is a big investment...Maybe "last amp ever" type investment. Nobody wants to spend that kind of money and have somebody telling them "no, this is what you need" or have something else come out a year down the road, if they could have just waited and got X. Especially when the only thing that really needs updated in the Helix, is the software. I would be one thing if companies would say, "listen theres a lot of room for improvement here, so you might wanna wait".... but thats not how it works as we all know..............and lets face it how many guys have had a chance to use all of these amps to know how close they are or whatever? They claim that the modeling is a 1:1 spot on recreation and then a year or two later its better, and now you need X product if you really want great guitar sounds. Im guessing, but i think thats where some of his "frustration" may lie. Would you be annoyed if you bought the best product line 6 had to offer and then find out the next day that they come out with something even better? I think you would be.

Great. Thats encouraging. Yeah i agree, guitar pre's into an IR sounds nice. Im not sure if it was you that i was telling, but i do Triaxis>TH3 or redwirez IRs quite often and its tasty.

You def should not be running out of DSP. Drop down to your B path if so. I think you are making some "improper" block choices. If you are just plugging the helix into your interface with 1 cable, thees no need to choose stereo anything for fx. If you are using 2 then stereo fx after cab blocks. Dont put stereo distortion before amps. If you show a block diagram, im sure somebody can point out where you went wrong. Read the routing section in the manual.

Yep ha ha. Seems that one is out of his hands. Maybe he intends on smashing it :) I do agree with the OP however on his opening statement. Id like to see this thing join the Army and be all it can be. In my perfect lil world line 6 would 1) add 5 more amps 2) add 5 more cabs 3) 2 more killer compression options 4) and then really concentrate on making all amps/cabs/and fx sound phenomenal. Especially the cabs. They are the weak point in Helix IMO.

This will be cool to see how much alike our 2:90s sound...or at least the IR. So dude forgive my ignorance, but you HAVE used your Helix to preamp the 2:90 then? as well as the amp switching i see. One live set-up i often use is POD 2.0 > 2:90 > 4x12 cab and i havent made it that far yet with the Helix. It looks like you have, and i was wondering how the Helix does as a pre in this set-up? Sound wise.

Not being smart but i for the life of me cant figure out why anyone would use anything else other than windows 7 for audio? It is far and away the best platform. Why people would go and change is beyond me. Anyway youre going to want to make sure you have the helix driver selected in your daw, then all of your daw connections routed properly (cant help you there) and your helix output block set to multi. If youve done that then youre probably overlooking something in your daw virtual connections.
-
Roscoe! what can i say dude? Youre the man! Youve got your own dedicated folder on my desktop. Thanks again. I'll give you a shout after i get a minute with the new stuff.
-
Yep you can use it either way. Just make sure you set the output level on the helix accordingly. (in the global pref)
-
Well it was happening while trying to reamp, so although raise a great point, the guitar just wasnt part of the equation here....and the ground lift, no i havent, but im not sure it would be of use in this situation. It def will get its use though. Appreciate your response. Not that but good thinking..Definitely something to consider. Ive seen some of the strangest stuff. Things you would not think possible ha!

Thanks dude. I guess i can try to back the unit off a little more. Its sitting further away than any of the other interfaces ive had here. I wonder if the Helix might be more susceptible to picking up noise than some of the other equipment?? I havent run into anyone mentioning this type of noise though.. Thing is, ive got the USB cable stretched about 70% its max and the hard drive isnt abnormally loud. That really should be far enough....unless its finding its way back up the USB connection. No too big a deal... until im ready to move on from the "learning how to use it" phase to the "wanting to use it" phase.
-
Still learning my way around the Helix and while doing so, this noise began to infiltrate my recordings as i was using USB 3 to send a "dry di" back for reamping. In this case i wasnt using the Helix in a controlled environment. Quite the opposite infact. I was using it as an interface, on a computer, that isnt much good for anything other than net surfing....among other imperfections that i would normally never allow in a working environment. I have however used other set-ups in this same scenario without any problem, so im 99.9% sure this noise is coming from and being generated by the Helix. Im also pretty sure its nothing in my surroundings like guitar pickups picking up the computer hard drive, or an uninterruptible power supply, or whatever.....Again, ive used other set-ups in this "bedroom" level environment without any similar issue. The thing here for me is t5hat ive never heard anything reminiscent of whats going on here, and im not totally aware of whats going on inside the helix that may be causing or contributing to the issue. So without any further a-do. ive attached the file. Does this sound familiar to anyone, or have you any ideas, or even guesses as to what it is? As always, thanks for any time spent. helix noise.mp3

Wished i wouldve got the rack model. Probably still not too late. I have the pedal board and the closer things are to the ground the more likely they are to have something spilled or dropped on it. The higher the less likely.

You really are the man!! Step by step instructions?! Thats as close to a virtual hand holding as youre gonna get...about what i need too. I'll see what i can come up with. My spare time is pretty limted. I have the Redwirez stuff, but there are some sounds scattered throughout the digital world i havent been able to get anywhere else. One example is in TH3 AFTER moving mics on the cabinet and creating phase anomalies. I dont know if that end result is transferable to a wav file or not. In any case a couple of cabs in TH3 i just dont want to live without.
-
Hey thanks for your reply man....I saw that post and didnt read it too deeply, and i was misinterpreting it ...So you are explaining exactly what i am asking here....isnt there already a wav file associated with each cabinet? Isnt it just a matter of locating said wav file? I guess youre saying no, and you know better than i do....but man... it'd be much easier to have the wav file. but really, if i follow you (and im not familiar with deconvolver, i have it tho) all i would really need to do is drag (or import) my cab of chioce into voxengo and export it as an IR? Maybe thats not too big a deal, but something tells me theres more to it :) I guess i'll have to look a bit deeper, i just hoped for a one step solution. Appreciate your effort on the IRs.
-
I mean theyre all IRs right?. The mentioned programs have some cab sounds i find really useful. How can a fella load an IR from one of the software programs? Logic suggests i need to find the .wav files but havent had much luck there. Sure i can record a track without any cab emulation on in the Helix and add it later, but....... What exactly is possible? .....and then, is there a way to navigate to a simple .wav file to use cabs from TH3, Amplitube, ect.. Thanks for any thought you may have given.
-
Yep! You can do it your way and i can do it mine, and we'll both be happy. :) options are a beautiful thing.

Im wondering how you think this is possible? Editing in the editor is MUCH faster. I can literally go from preset 9A to 14C in one click. One click to ANY block. One click to back the whole way out of a preset. Theres no navigating ANY pages for global EQ, amps, or ANY effect..its all on one screen. One click from the distortion block category down to the amp/cab...theres no turning a knob to bypass every category.. Mute point anyway. It is what is.
