  1. Oh man this thing is toooo sweet. I started a thread a while back asking if the Helix would continue to see improvements ( i mostly wondered about the modeling - but this totally counts) and yeah, as each update passes, im happier and happier that i chose a Helix. Thanks Line 6!!
  2. ok...maybe you put that up after i posted because it wasnt there 5 minutes ago.....but yeah then somebody asked if it was a "mac only" issue so i thought the info might be relevant.
  3. So my point still stands. I dont have a dog in this fight. Just trying to be realistic. I get you man. My deal with it all is - companies use names to sell their products, and because x player steps on a reverb patch once a year doesnt really qualify. Companies and even people, throw names around to make it appear as if the majority of the players sound is coming from that product. Look at the post. Thats what hes proclaiming.
  4. I dig it man, but He said he uses it mainly for fx. He also said he hasnt created any presets he likes.. Apparently everybody if you havent noticed. You can find endorsements on everything from motor oil to hospitals, to golf clubs, Everybody wants to know what the pros are using. People hear sounds they like and want to know how to emulate them. Not sure why thats so bothersome?
  5. Where are you getting that Pete Thorn "uses" the Helix? Yeah he did a review on one, on youtube, but i dont think hes ever used one to gig with or have done any major recordings with it. Hes also listed as a fractal artist, so it sounds to me like your dreaming this stuff up....unless of course you have any information you can point us to.
  6. No, no..Thank YOU roscoe P. :) Appreciate your time on these. You'll shortly be an expert no doubt.
  7. This is probably my favorite of the 3. It will take a little time to see how i REALLY feel. You know, that song you listen to 5 months or a year down the road and think dayyyyuum!!!.....or boy that didnt work :) Its a very balanced capture and would work in a mix without a lot of eq.
  8. I appreciate the info. I guess i feel like each path should be able to accommodate a little more than it does. 2 amps and 2 IRs leave few options after that. Thats about what a UAD solo card does. I likened a quad card earlier and that was being very generous. I get that we can tap into more power in path 2, but maybe im using it for something entirely different. a bass maybe. 2 amps and 2 IRs in one path, i would expect to be able to use any UNused fx in that same path at least once... Start bringing in better sounds with more DSP demand and things get even tighter.
  9. Im a major tweakbag, so id be down ;) Id like to see line 6 concentrate on whatever is important to achieving the best tones, and if that means adding a power amp stage, go for it.
  10. Admittedly new user, so im sorry if im missing things. In that case i do apologize, but as i set up a single input with 2 guitar amps and 2 1024 IRs, (dual mono on the top path) i realize that i cant even use the LA2A style compressor after that, nor most of the modulation, some of the delays, distortions ect. Not only that but there is no room for growth it seems. One would hope modeling will continue to get even better, and with that usually comes a higher DSP demand. I dont expect to be able to run unlimited fx but i surely wouldnt expect to see an effect greyed out if i havent already used it yet elswhere. There really should be enough DSP on board to accommodate this. Yeah i understand how to incorporate the lower path for more power but that not my point here. Even a UAD quad card will do 4 amps with speakers, compression, EQ, delays, ect...and we all know how small those SHARC chips are. Do you feel the Helix has enough power for its build and just as importantly, the future?
  11. Downloaded and liked it very much man. I dont have a 2x12 recto or any other 2x12, so its nice to have. I like to hear a few more mids in my tones than what you have here but, thats purely subjective. Much appreciated.
  12. Not sure what you are using the SPDIF option for, but I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that Helix converts all IRs to 48hz, so if youre using an IR maybe its worth checking to see if you run into the same hang ups with a native cab.
  13. Epic!!! ......put it in the manual. ;)
  14. Thats exactly what i was thinking...if i havent already said it. The better helix is, the more people that are going to want it. IMO there is really nothing to change about the hardware. It could exist as is forever. The only thing that *needs* to change is that the modeling stays current. Though i dont expect everything for free, Us "early supporters" should see some benefit from Helix's growth, and we already have as per the firmware updates.
  15. I would just go to a "new preset" bank and load the screamer, and see how it loads default...if im understanding you. If im not mistaken (and very well may be) pressing on the buttons resets effects to their default value.
  16. Most likely the answer to this is completely subjective, but with so many options on board the Helix, i would have to think it is equally compatible with many set ups. Yep! Yep. you can shut the cab modelling off and go Helix>Mesa power amp>4x12 speaker cab. Helix can be used as a guitar preamp just like the older PODs or whatever you like to use. Yes but, depending on your tastes, probably not "right out of the box", but i guarantee once you spend a couple of days getting to know Helix, and dialing it to your tastes, you will dig it fully.
  17. Not to sound dismissive but check EVERYTHING. You wouldnt believe that a drum machine sitting too close to your interface or a UPS too near your helix could cause hum or other noises similar, but it does, and im betting its something this simple. You havent given a bunch of info in your post, so im just thinking out loud here. :)
  18. THEN I load the IR that's as close to those settings. Are you talking about the IR as a replacement? Is your initial selection a "temporary sound" ? Or using the IR to "support" your first cab selection? I think im doing what you are now, but i just pull up any ole cab in the beginning, because choosing the right cab for the amp and more importantly the track, can take some doing, so i rarely waste time (no offense) fiddling with the temporary cab sound.
  19. I dont know man. In my experience it varies from developer to developer. Ive spent small amounts of money and got massive support and spent lager amounts and got poor support, so IMO it come down to how ambitious the company is and how much importance they place on customer service. Not sure about this either. Line 6 has already added modeling and not charged a penny. The better they make the product, the more buyers they attract. Maybe the price increases a bit because of demand, but Us who are on board as "early supporters" reap the benefits, and rightly so.
  20. Ok....just trying to add relevant info. Good luck.
  21. Hey thanks for doing these...Ive got a ways to go with the Helix, and they'll help. One thing. I mean thats what overdrive pedals do...color the sound. Thats exactly why you put them there in the first place, whether its to tighten bass, push mids, whatever, so im thankful that they all color in a different way. If youre just putting them there to boost distortion, well then your set-up is off elsewhere.
  22. Just did the same update here a day or two ago, and it went seamlessly.
  23. amaaaaaaaaaaaaazing responses guys. Thanks so much for contributing. Please dont stop on that note ;)
  24. Ha! you guys have been really busy around here. Youre all a great help thank you, and its a sweet lil community. BTW i really like how the forum here is laid out. Makes it easy to navigate and pretty intuitive IMO. closer to topic: Im liking the Redwirez along with a stock Helix cab (dont own ownhammer yet- biggest reason is because they expect me to buy Marshal cabs based on their mesa demos  ) The redwirez sound fantastic, but as has been noted, you forfeit a bit of control with the IRs, so loading a native Helix cab with the redwirez...kinda gives the best of both worlds....soooo much to explore yet. on topic: right now im just grabbing a handful of redwirez that are close to the sound i want for a particular amp, (maybe i'll grab all the "cone edges" and all the "caps") then settling on one or two of them... and then deleting the rest. Not perfect for sure but a start. Navigating IRs in ANY program feels clumsy. side note: Man id love to know how to grab some TH3 impulses. Yeah i know id just have to find the wavs for their cabs, but i havent yet :)
