Snapshots not changing with one press of a foot switch
themetallikid replied to elphickkenny's topic in Helix
what do you mean by 2 functions assigned to the same footswitch? So if I notice it for snapshot changes, i can't assign more than one change? -
Native purchase, yeah thinking about being lazy

yeah I love the Helix, and a smaller version may be in the cards when I free up enough money. who knows....appreciate it. -
Native purchase, yeah thinking about being lazy
themetallikid replied to themetallikid's topic in Helix
Yeah to be honest, It'd really only be for practicing songs and such without having to connect my whole pedalboard etc. Sounds too pricey of a 'fix' for that, plus having to deal with potential issues between tech items. Was hoping to keep the tweaking uniform and just save backups and restore to my Floor when needed, but I might just be better off with a seperate unit for home jamming -
So I have the Floor...love it, but its a pain to haul my full board out, hook things up under my desk, seperate headphone amp, headphones.....I know, 'real' problems right? lol Thinking about grabbing Native for the $99.99.....obviously I can't just plug my guitar into my laptop, so what else do I need in order to make it work. And should I expect anything different sound wise between what I create in Native vs. what I create on Floor? Of course, already accounting for my monitoring preferences for at home vs live/practice use. Those I have figured out already....Just meaning more of changes in tone due to a different input potentially?

Or just copy/paste the same preset however many times you need it and save the BPM per preset that way all snapshots in the preset use the same BPM saved. Preset/Song 1 - BPM 65 Preset/Song 2 - BPM 128 etc... Even if all your doing is changing the bpm per preset and keeping the same sound/snapshot programming.

Snapshots not changing with one press of a foot switch
themetallikid replied to elphickkenny's topic in Helix
I dont know if its related.....at all....lol, but since the 2.9 update where they implemented the Command Center options to rearrange button assignments I've noticed that snapshot changes for me sometimes dont trigger. If it was a single button that was having an issue I'd think just general button use, but its all 10 buttons. It doesnt seem to happen when I'm in preset mode (as this is where I create my sounds), but as soon as I'm in preset/snap, snap, stomp mode....several (not all) snapshot changes will not 'take' and require a 2nd button press. I do not have it where it 'arms' the snapshot like the OP indicated (if I read right)....it just simply doesnt select the snapshot. Initially my thought was that something changed regarding the duplicate snap/button press timing. I have it set to return to the previous snapshot on a duplicate press. and if for some reason Im not pushing the button quick enough (not sure how after so many years I just dont push a button fast enough) its registering a 2nd push and then returning to the original snapshot....IDK. Just felt it was worth mentioning in here.... -
yeah thats what I was going after with my answer too, just not worded right for the Stomp vs floor/LT.....lol Glad you got it sorted out.

I'm not very good with the complicated routings and not having an image directly of what your doing vs what your trying to do leaves only the picture in my head...and thats a, very...very scary place sometimes, lol.... Could you reverse your A/B paths..what I mean is (no idea if this works or not, its slow at work and I wanna try and be helpful, lol) Path 1 - splits at the beginning, 1A runs your preset sound you had on path 2 (if I read right?), path 1B runs to the end creating a 2nd output on path 1. Path 1A is set to the XLR (your monitor outputs) and 1B would be sent to 2A. 2A would have your Poly Sustain path? Thus your splitting your signal before the sustain so it still sees the clean guitar input, but you can then mute or control the 'split' on path 1 to mute the input going to the Poly Sustain?

Amp In A Box (pedals into a clean amp) suggestions
themetallikid replied to themetallikid's topic in Helix
I appreciate all the help on this. WIth the 3.0 update, I literally spent 75+ minutes finishing up about 3-4 amp favorites and then creating my goto stock gig presets. About 60 min of that was just playing on a clean sound (Archetype Clean, where was this amp all my Helix Life, lol...love it!!) and then adding the Timmy in front for a bit of bit/boost for solos....it works well for what its intended for. My next stop is going to be that slight breakup (I call it Gritty) type tone where its clean but full strummed chords sorta breakup when hit hard. I think this is where I need to be for amp selection from what I'm reading, and then add an OD (or two) for the AITB and such. I guess in the past i've done a pushed version of my gritty with the TS808 being used for leads, just never explored more than the 'lead version' of the Gritty sound to be used as a rhythm much.... Tonight shall be fun..... thanks! -
Ok, I've always been an amp/cab guy and only really ever used a pedal to boost an amp. I've never had a 'true' pedalboard with different flavor OD's, distortions, fuzzes etc. With the new favorites options and default amp settings options....i've been exploring lots of amps I've never really played with before (some really drive home some tones I've struggled to get), which got me thinking more along the lines of an open jam type setup I'd walk into......a simple fenderish type amp maybe and a pedal board with 3 or 4 drive types, delay or two, modulation chorus type stuff. Sure the delay and chorus stuff I can handle I use them mostly now in my presets... however, i've 0 experience really when it comes to pedal into a clean amp to get you that amp in a box type setup or stacking OD's sorta thing.....Anyone willing to give me some starting ground ideas or settings to play with? In my short history previously exploring this, I find the additional tone shaping options of the pedal and amps EQ a bit paralyzing when trying to adjust what I dont like in what I hear. My 'clean' amp usually for presets is a JC120 so I like my cleans clean, and maybe that is my faulty lift off point. Anyway, appreciate any sharing....cheers!

appreciate it, yes was looking for more of an offline resource. I know of the Helix site....
-
I've seen some posted and now I can't find them, just looking for a great user sourced reference to the amp models and effects that I can easily have open while tweaking in HX Edit....preferably 3.0 updated.....

I will dial this up tonight.....mmm, sounds tasty
-
Yes it was directed at both really....I'll have to play around with it. Thanks for the tip

so, you use just the 'preamp' only version direct to FOH?

Helix Stompbox, Amps & Cabs names vs "actual" names
themetallikid replied to ferkjl's topic in Helix
Well it simply boils down to money spent on intellectual naming rights. If I want a BMW car I can either go buy one and spend $40k+ for an actual BMW...BMW is happy, I'm happy life carries on. However if my neighborhood garage junky puts together a car and slaps a BMW label on it, is it really a BMW, it might look, drive and be priced like a BMW, but its not a BMW. And by spending money elsewhere, it shortchanges the actual brand. If Mesa/Marshall (etc) licensed/endorsed the use of their names in these devices it would/could potentially drive people away from spending 2k-3k on he actual amps. Those companies have come out with the 'toaster' amps and drive pedals that emulates their own technology, but if they were to endorse their name in the Helix...it could/would water down their actual direct sales money. Sure they would get a chunk of money maybe in royalties or initial up front usage rights fees....but I doubt for Line 6 its worth it monetarily to do so. Everyone can search the internet and find the correlated names and it prevents legal battles. if I spent a lifetime building a brand, reputation and product, I would want a pretty penny for it to be used on something I wouldnt normally see any direct revenue from too -
Helix Stompbox, Amps & Cabs names vs "actual" names
themetallikid replied to ferkjl's topic in Helix
1st post and thats what you lead with? lol....wow....first of all welcome!! Secondly, its not just Line 6 that does that, Boss, Fractal, TC Electronic and others that I have used have done this for a variety of valid legal reasons. lol.... ...as stated, use favorites then to rename everything how you want. Well, 128 things how you want. -
Again, I agree....I've resorted to 6 core tones (so far), clean/gritty/push/crunch/rock/hard rock. and then lead versions of each of those. I'll arrange them in one 'setlist' so that I have different options available in different banks. But Its more work in HX Edit than tap dancing. Although I did challenge myself to recreate tones on Path A only....just to see if I could do it (always seem to make presets more complicated). With the new favorites, amps, OD's...I've never created presets that sound so good from scratch so quickly. It was a little bit of work to set up what I stored as favorites (and more work to go there as well) but its rediculously fast now.
-
I agree. I like drawing up song specific presets with lots of things built in using snapshots.....however, for a simple grab and go type gig or open jams...simple presets with spillover is easier than having to try and draw 4-5 sounds of out 2 amps and a crazy amount of snapshot changes.
-
Yes, I do this with my multi amp presets when using snapshots for clean/dirty tones. I just have the slider for a/b % set to 100% either direction and attached for that snapshot. I'm sure you can attach a min/max setting as well so that they are a100 or b100.

I dont hear 'warble' in the short clip you had....I really only hear the EQ/Attack difference that I'd hear when I used the Drop or any other type of pitch shifting device for poly stuff like that. Which is why they included that Auto EQ (forgot the name, havent played with it yet myself) parameter to adjust so it matches the tone you had without the effect

well anyone paying attention to the forum can see the several threads with the same situation, yet its the first thing outlined in the instructions. I get your point, but i'm far from the only one that makes these comments and I dont do it frequently, if ever at all. usually try to be constructive. but as many people that were whining for it the update to drop yesterday and then the pile of threads of people not following the instructions is hilarious. lol.

it amazes me how many people miss that step when its so clearly outlined.

Of course I love almost everything about 3.0 and the things I dont love immediately will take time for me to try out and see how I can use it best. HOWEVER, I love all the creative ways the new features can be used. Favorite settings for example....specifically Amp settings (IR's too, but I have a question).... I set up a 'Amp/IR Test' preset....maybe i can something more efficient, but this seemed best for me at the moment this morning.... I add an Amp only block, and 2 IR's in series on path 1A, then add an Amp+Cab block and 2 IR's in series on path 2. Using Snapshots I have setup: Snapshot 1 - Amp 1 - Amp + Cab engaged only, all others bypassed, settings version 1 Snapshot 2 - Amp 2 - Amp + Cab engaged only, all others bypassed, settings version 2 Snapshot 3 - Amp 3 - Amp + Cab engaged only, all others bypassed, settings version 3 Snapshot 4 - Amp 4 - Amp + Cab engaged only, all others bypassed, settings version 4 Snapshot 5 - IR 1 - Amp only block, IR 1 Snapshot 6 - IR 2 - Amp only block, IR 2 Snapshot 7 - IR 3 - Amp only block, IR 3 Snapshot 8 - IR 4 - Amp only block, IR 4 This allows me to dial in amp settings using the stock cab to get an idea of the amps nature/sound that I'd like to potentially save as a favorite. Then transfer settings to the Amp Only block, and then audition IR's using those settings I liked to find an IR that gets me closer to what I'd like out of that sound. I dont mind stock cabs for ballpark, but find York Audio IR's get me closer. My questions.... 1) Is there an easy way to transfer settings from an Amp + Cab block to an Amp only block? 2) If I save an IR, lets say its in slot 67, and I save it as Placatar Dirty Cab 1 favorite....when I recall it, I do not have to remap the IR slot used correct? 2a) if I happen to move the IR from slot 67 to slot 63 because I remove some IR's I'm not using and I make room, will the favorite IR follow the slot change or will I need to note that elsewhere potentially? Thanks as always, loving the 3.0 so far!!

I have the Yamaha DBR10 as a monitor for my acoustic shows and its serviceable as that. it feels a bit 'boomy' even with the settings as 'flat' as they allow. My headphones are notably bassier and that is all ok, as long as you know what how your monitoring solution sounds vs. anything you might play out live with like PA or FOH systems. For my full band I create presets in my headphones, making them slightly more muffled than I care for in reality....then try the presets through my 15" powered speaker to get some 'real air' idea of whats there...then at the gig I have really just minimal EQ'ing to do if something is out of whack. I run our sound from stage and am quick enough with my guitar's channel EQ that I can fix stuff quickly. I know people warn against using the global EQ but for my setup and approach it helps too. If my presets are globally bright or bassy, i adjust in the Global EQ...then next time at home look at that EQ and adjust the presets then reflatten the global eq. Its sorta a live scratch pad to make my presets sound good on the fly with my not ideal monitoring solution in my apartment.
