oh wow... more amps/cabs/effects... why not just fix all the outstanding bugs? 1. left/mono not being mono 2. bypass behavior chaos that still exists in 3.5
-
No! No such thing. It'll keep oscillating at a constant speed, unless you use some trickery with the expression pedal to change the rate.
-
Btw. You can take any block including distortion, wah and volume, remove all the assignments and re-assign expression pedal 2 to control any parameter. Or expression 1. It’s just that the default settings are to have 1 control wah and 2 control volume. I personally never switch between exp 1/2 and always use exp 2 because that’s what the external pedal defaults to. And if my pedal dies, I can have all my sounds work with the external pedal. if you want to use the wah but not volume, you can simply bypass the volume pedal block in a specific snapshot or assign it to a stomp button where one is on and the other is off and vice versa or you can use snapshots: in your snapshot, you can save which exp is selected: 1 or 2. So you switch your snapshot and your you now control expression 1. Switch to a different one and it’s expression 2. The switch will happen without you pressing on the toe switch.

You can definitely assign both to the same footswitch in pedal mode: one is on while the other one is off. No custom labels exist though.

Helix expression pedal issue - full Helix (not LT)
theElevators replied to themetallikid's topic in Helix
Ok so it’s a hardware issue. Go and tighten the pedal with the supplied hex key. If it’s too loose, tighten it. -
That, my friend is an indication that your micro-switches need to be cleaned. My Floor was fine, then it stopped liking flip-flops. And then the foot switches stopped working reliably. Got them cleaned, and it like flip-flops again. I think for me, besides what everybody speculates is that the foam inside the Helix disintegrates and small crumbs of it get inside the switch. It was also not helpful that I played in a band where I was constantly switching sounds: like 30 times in one song. So practicing alone was putting a lot of stress on my 2 buttons that were used the most often. But then again, the Helix was only 2 years old for me and it was not used that much, because I have another Helix LT that I use as my practicing board, the Floor was for gigs and dress rehearsals. So there...

Or why not use a physical volume pedal, or one of these? https://reverb.com/p/classic-audio-effects-passive-volume-roller-g2

Yes, that popping sound if you have 2 amps one after another and one is turned on while another is turned off is obnoxious and you can only be fixed with some reverb spillover trickery... To circumvent that, you should really use 2 paths with both amps on, and switch between 2 paths. That way there won't be any pop. In my humble opinion it's not a good idea to use 2 amps (clean/dirty). That's something that big shot guitarists do like Eric Johnson... In reality each amp/cab has its own unique frequency spectrum, etc... And live your balance will be all over the place if the sound guy tunes your sound with one amp/cab in mind... In other words you may have your cleans too loud, or the other way around.

I use a harmonizer to a great effect in several songs. I place the Twin Harmony block after the distortion / amp / cab. Basically at the very end of the chain, followed by some delay. Maybe it's your placement of the harmonizer? For me, it tracks pretty darn well and I don't have any clipping.... Here's a performance, you can hear how it sounds in context (1:34). BTW, for distortion I use "Classic Dist", which works as DS-1. No external pedals for me....

I was told people really like factory 3.50 presets. But then again first thing I did when I got my Helix was to erase all of the factory presets, but that's just me, that's what I do with every single piece of gear.
-
I was seeing a bug that was ultimately caused by HX Edit running on a Mac on with Helix Firmware 3.15 In reality, altering one preset would apply the same (unrelated) changes to a different preset. Nobody could replicate this bug on Windows. It was literally altering unrelated presets. And you wouldn't know if you broke a preset until you tested all your numerous presets. Staying on 3.11 thank you verrrrry much.
-
I knew it! Thanks for the tip. This is exactly why I don't upgrade from 3.11. For me the bypass functionality based on percentage works great. Ain't broke, no need to fix it. So, wah block is off in the preset; it turns on when EXP 2 is past 5%. Lower than 5% it gets turned off. If I don't want to use the wah in a certain snapshot, I set the mix parameter to 0% -- done. Forget about this utterly useless "Heel Down" behavior. Line 6 really really over-complicated this.

Yeah, I'm aware about the frequency range... But you have to agree that 2 wireless units, 3 venues and all of them had issues out of nowhere. That's what strikes me as odd. You gotta admit that it's kind-of fishy that from the 100+ shows I've played with the wireless why the heck did it start happening only now, and only in Florida (so far)?!
-
So I have been happily using my Shure Wireless system GLXD16 for guitar for about 7 years now. It'd never failed me live, I've taken it all around the US and to Europe, Israel. No cutting out, no interference, dependable, solid, great. All of a sudden we went to Florida and played 3 gigs in Tampa, Orlando and Miami. Me and the bass player started getting interference on our GLXD16 systems. For me it was manageable, and only noticeable if I went far away from the receiver (off stage) and was holding a long note, however for the bass player it sounded like a leslie was on fast. We tried everything, including running bass through my wireless system, and the interference was still noticeable on bass, making it unusable. We wound up routing the receiver to where the microphone was to minimize the distance and played 3 shows the same exact way. So now question: does it sound like a coincidence that literally less than a month that a new and improved wireless system is announced, the old one stops being reliable? Could it be that they "freed up some frequencies" for like air traffic control or something (sorry I am not that technical). Thoughts? Here's the new system btw: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GLXD16p--shure-glxd16-digital-wireless-guitar-pedal-system

Processing power of Helix Floor / LT / Rack is the same. Same sounds, same blocks, same processor. With every new release, new amps/cabs get added, so that may be the source of discrepancy. What LT has fewer of (as opposed to the Floor / Rack): 1) no physical scribble strips, instead it has virtual ones 2) fewer in/outs: fewer loops, no XLR input, etc. 3) does not have 10 stomp mode, you can only assign things to 8 buttons in stomp mode. Rack allows you to have 3 expression pedals at the same time. I don't see the need to get the rack personally, go for the Floor... It's all self-contained, no remote is needed, etc. If you use snapshots, and run your guitar, and maybe use a couple of loops, you'll be fine on any of the 3 pieces of hardware. For example, I use my Floor and LT interchangeably.

Mooer Baby Bomb + Orange 112 cab = awesome. That's my current setup. Plenty of volume for a small club on its own, and great for the stage volume.

How to get a kind of "strings" or violin sound from Helix?
theElevators replied to Lelik's topic in Helix
I created a preset, you can download it here. This preset creates an organ pad underneath your playing. You can switch the sounds with your snapshots. It's a pretty convincing B3 organ sound with a Leslie. You can take this preset, and tweak it with some vibrato, chorus, reverb and you'll get pretty convincing violins. https://line6.com/customtone/tone/5850243/ -
First check the global settings -- there's a way to disable the tap tempo light (I actually disabled mine). Regarding the LEDs, if they failed, I recommend sending your Helix to Line 6... Unless you have proper soldering equipment, there's absolutely no way to do this at home, you'll wind up breaking something else. I have had an awful experience where a shop just wasted my time, refused to do any work, and stripped all my screws, leaving some of them sticking out. Sent it to Line 6 and it was fixed in under 2 weeks door-to-door-back-home.

Helix Rack: Input clipping to silence intermittently; newly noisy FX loops
theElevators replied to Sjaltenb's topic in Helix
With me I had the opposite problem: Helix and the amp were running out of the same outlet and the ground loop / 60-cycle hum was unbearable. When I switched the amp to another outlet, the noise was diminished. Also the noise was exacerbated by the yellow lights in the venue... when we started playing, it was only the stage lights and the noise was gone. -
If you go on Amazon, you will find lots of gadgets like this: https://www.amazon.com/ALLWEI-Portable-Generator-78000mAh-Emergency/dp/B08CXN4TZR

I got myself this thing a long time ago: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M3S00H0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's perfect for camping. I was able to run my pedalboard / 30W amplifier for the entire rehearsal on it. I was actually impressed with it. The only thing there were ground loop issues with one specific pedal. Helix should run with absolutely no issues on one/two of these. Lots of options out there.

yes, Mooer Baby Bomb power amp

Try resetting the global settings. I always thought that the tap tempo, or any other FS light would not fail right away, but usually only 1/2 of it would stop working... not both halves.

I like the sound of a dirty leslie... so I put it before the amp.
