  1. just a note... the factory model options were removed from the JTV's when the HD acoustics were added, so there would be no difference in a factory or user model with a firmware that has the updated acoustic models. if you stayed on an earlier version for the older acoustics... you should still have the option in your JTV if you wanted it....
  2. not sure i understand this... but you wont get any more preset room... but you can recall the models on your variax wiuth the pod hd's
  3. yes you created it twice before... and i've moved it to the lounge both times... this will make 3... look for it in the lounge.
  4. I no longer have my original variax to test this, but if HD500/500x/pro/prox edit is anything like gearbox, you should have u models and f models listed in the force model dialogue (f=factory/unmodified, u=user)
  5. they just barely released the new X models... i think its highly likely that there are updates to come... not likely fast as they just got purchased by yamaha, and may have some internal adjustments to make.... but i'm sure they've been working on whatever may be next... (and NAMM is in a couple of weeks, so we may know more shortly) in my opinion even if they come out with something new, they won't be abandoning the current HD stuff.
  6. the JTV with more current firmware does not have this option... in my opinion it's less useful to the JTV's anyway since you can select the tuning independently... whereas the original variax the tuning was part of the model. and yes, at either end of the model knob is a custom 1 or custom 2 for both generations of variaxes... essentially there were no new models in those positions... factory i think it just had some duplicates and alt tuned models... the JTV-89's may have the high gain models (models of its own pickups) in the custom 1 position... but thats really just what the knob says... as all banks and models can be custom.
  7. assuming its a non JTV or a JTV with version 1.7 or older firmware... allows you the option of choosing the unaltered factory model, or the one you modified.
  8. gearbox show u models and f models (user and factory) when using the xt/x3
  9. line6 wont provide this directly.... i suggest calling some local service centers and asking them to get you parts.
  10. as far as the original variax goes... you can overwrite ALL the positions on the knob with whatever you want... the best part and undocumented bonus... is that if you are using a pod with VDI you can recall all the factory settings still... (they are still in there, just not accessible from the knob after you overwrite them)
  11. you'd have a real hard time finding anyone to fix the PCB on those... i'm pretty sure that most service centers would want to replace the whole board.. which may be problematic, as far as getting parts. you can of course try the service centers... but i'd find a proper electronics repair shop locally... if it's not a critical issue, there may be some common parts they can replace at the component level. probably cost around 50-100$ just for the bench time... which may include fixing it if the issue is simple enough... of course that's just my guess... as i don't set their prices.
  12. the line6 expression pedal inputs are TS only not TRS... just to clarify... but yes that common behringer midi foot controller, can be programmed... it will connect via standard midi cables and will not use the FBV interface on the POD. (the FBV port is exclusive to line6 footboards only) the primary difference is the display, the FBV interface also powers the foot controller... which you wouldn't have... or need in order to use the behringer... or groundcontrol, etc etc
  13. the actual breakout of the FBV port is pretty much digital and midi.... so adapting it just for an expression pedal would likely require a midi expression pedal and not an analog one. the controller, converts to midi before sending over fbv cable... in short unless you are an engineer with loads of time and determination... i don't think what you want is feasible... (although obviously nothing is impossible with the right knowledge... but worth doing... another thing entirely) you can use a non-proprietary midi foot controller, if you wanted to make the effort to get that setup... still won't likely accept your current pedal though.
  14. sorry... skipped over that part of the question... the second expression pedal jack is on the FBV shortboard MKII
  15. i think the expressions just use a TS cable, and the pedal needs to be a 10k linear pot. not familiar with your pedal... but maybe that will help?
  16. you may have forgotten to calibrate after the update?
  17. the DT50 does not have preamp tubes... it has an inverter 12ax7 like the dt25 and a boost 12ax7 which the dt25 does solid state... all pre-amps are entirely modeled.
  18. i would reinstall the update, it should walk you through calibration when its completed.
  19. they had previously announced that support for the X3 would end January 1st 2014. the x3 is quite a few years old. (and the software has not been updated for quite a few years and probably never will be) they cannot predict what changes windows or mac will mac to their systems... mavericks changed something that seemingly doesn't want to work with the older software. mavericks is what changed... not line6. i'm confident it can be made to work... with the mac being a closed OS, things are not as easy to tinker with as they are on windows... you might try removing the current driver and reinstalling some older ones as an idea... but its all guess work... as i do not know the answer to your issue.
  20. if the mac has 10.5 on it.... its possible that the mac also has a non-intel AKA PPC processor in it.... these are not supported and will not work with the current versions of line6's software.
  21. VDI is digital.. you can't simply split it... the pod does D/A conversion.
  22. Gearbox is still the correct and only editor available for the x3 series.
  23. i think it will help L6 with resources they did not previously have... i'm optimistic but time will tell.
