I can't say I've noticed the sound of any of my presets changing, and I actually installed earlier builds of the firmware a while ago, and have been using Helix at rehearsal with those installed. Certainly if there were changes, it was nothing drastic enough for me to notice. I'd echo the other comments here. You need to make sure all the global settings are where they should be and that all your IR files, if you're using any, are in the right place.

Yeah, I can confirm this now... I went and tried it, and I did have to select each preset. plug the cable in, pull it out, and then after I did it for each one, re-save the preset. A pain in the butt, yes, but at least there's a workaround for now.
-
I don't believe you have to go and do the fix for every individual snapshot - just for the preset itself. Line 6 has acknowledged it as a bug and posted a workaround in the Knowledge Base for now. I suspect a patch will be issued shortly, but I doubt it will be before the holiday. http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/effects-controllers/helix/pre-210-snapshot-presets-can-eliminate-exp-2-f-r844

Maybe a new caps lock key?

Me too... I'm not a high gain guy, but I actually like the lead channel quite a lot on this amp. Very aggressive, but yet open sounding too. The clean is really nice and glassy.

They must have found some buried in their warehouse... It happens. I see they're also including the the Fully Loaded Model Pack with that deal... Not bad at all!

It's not like there's no frequency response in those bands, though. It does start to cutoff, even pretty drastically, at 5000HZ, but there's still some response there. And our ears can be pretty sensitive in that range as well. Here is the frequency response chart for that speaker:

The model packs aren't compatible with the HD300.

Reminds of a joke I heard a pastor say once... "Being a pastor is great, except for the people." :)

I'm somewhat active on the Facebook group, and I guess I can't say I've seen a lot the pressure tactics being mentioned. I have seen a few posts where people are selling presets or whatever. I haven't really paid attention to them, I suppose. Probably better to kee only group going, imo, if the idea is to reach as many people as possible.

The editor itself is just called "Helix". Leave the first pulldown blank, select Helix in the second one, and select your OS in the third, and it will come up. http://line6.com/software/ Or, if you put Helix in the first pulldown, and leave all the other fields blank it will show up.

update older variax with HD please
phil_m replied to mustangscot's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
I'm pretty sure the processors in the original Variax guitars aren't powerful enough to run the HD firmware. Beyond that, there's other hardware differences between the JTV and the original - the alt-tuning knob being the most obvious. -
I don't know that Line 6 has completely closed the door on public betas, but I think one reason they haven't done much of them simply comes down to resources. I think people always assume Line 6 is bigger than it is, and that they have huge teams of programmers working on stuff. That's generally not the case. So I think it could quickly become unmanageable for them to be getting hundreds of reports in and digging through them. Also, the way that I've experienced beta testing with them is that it's a very dynamic process with developers emailing testers frequently, and there were some times when I got three or four firmware builds in a week. So, with a public beta, most users probably are going to be willing to update at that pace, so you would have the case where people might be using outdated firmware, even it is a few days outdated. I also think that Line 6 is in a different position as far as the market goes than say Fractal or Kemper. I think that for the most part an Axe FX or Kemper user may be a little more sophisticated than the average Helix user. Not saying that there aren't those types of Helix users, but just because Line 6 is bigger brand, there are people who aren't even necessarily aware of brands like Fractal and Kemper who may use a Helix. I know that's kind of hard to believe, but I have actually met such people. I'm still amazed that there are people who get their gear information from Guitar Center... Anyway, I think Line 6 probably wants to very careful about not creating unneeded confusion if it doesn't need to.

They are still culling ideas from Ideascale. It's just the actual management of all the posts is kind of a pain in the butt from what DI says. There's a few things from there that are going to be in the next update.

Huh? Yes, you are, trust me... :) But whatever makes you feel better. Seriously, though, I actually think the vast majority of Helix users probably don't care all that much about the frequency of updates, nor is it something they spend a lot of energy worrying about. The number of people who comment here and other forums, and even on Facebook make up a pretty small percentage of the actual user base. The fact that you take time to register for a forum and comments puts you in the minority of users, and I really don't see that the majority of posters here or anywhere are unhappy...

I think you might be misunderstanding how the mix parameter is working. Like Sean said, it acts like a crossfade between the dry and wet signal going through the block. So when it's at 50, both the wet and dry are at 100%. So on your parallel, wet path If you have the mix parameter on the delay set to anything other than 100, you'll still have a dry signal going through that block, and that combines with the dry signal on your dry path to make the overall dry signal louder. Once you set the mix to 100, you only have wet going through the wet path, and dry going through the dry path.

I've got to say that I don't really see this as being the case... I frequent here, TGP, and the Facebook group, and I can't say that I've seen more than a small handful of people actually complaining, yet alone being "fed up". It seems the vast majority of people have been understanding, really.
-
Yep... You can put as many as you want, actually. There is a limit as to how many blocks you can use in total, and there's a DSP limit, but there's no limitation as to how many instances of a certain effect you can use. Also, as far as noise gates go, there is a gate each input block that can be turned on, so you actually won't necessarily need to use two actual blocks. You could turn the one in the input block on and have another one further down the signal chain.

Well Fractal is going to do their thing and Line 6 is going to do theirs... I've got to say, though, if you're comparing the development of the Helix to the AX8, I don't think you can say that Line 6 is behind Fractal as far as updates go. Fractal numbers their updates more aggressively, imo, and gives the impression that they are doing more, perhaps. They also detail out every little thing they change, like "we changed the value of this capacitor in this model". Line 6 has never given that level of detail, but I have no doubt that they do that sort of stuff. I think they just categorize that as "general optimizations and bug fixes". When I look at the number of amp models Fractal has added since the AX8 was introduced, I actually think Line 6 has added more. Fractal of course, started with more, but they're also working on a codebase that they've been using since 2011. Not saying this to necessarily say one is better than the other. If anything, it's always good to have choices. But I don't agree in an objective sense that Line 6 is really behind in any way.

Expression pedal, how to switch modes without leaving at max setting?
phil_m replied to musiclover7's topic in Helix
Yep - under the Global Settings menu. -

No, I understand completely... Right now there's no way to do what he wants to do, but after the update, there will be - but it will take switching snapshots to do it. If that's not an acceptable solution, than, yes getting an external pedal is the only workaround.
