I don’t think it’s coincidental- the guy really is from a long line of jerk offs! An anonymous donation from a sperm bank?

Hi, I’m glad that you managed to get your Helix back to a fully functioning state. I was intrigued by you saying, “Resetting the global settings via the LCD menu”, then I realised you must have meant changing the parameters with the knobs whilst on the Global Preferences screen. That had me confused for a moment, because although you maybe able to change those settings, it doesn’t change the situation. As you have discovered, in order to clear such a ”glitch”, you really need to perform a hard reset of the Global Settings.
-
Hi, Hold down Foot Switches 5 & 6 while powering up your Helix. Release the switches once you see the start up screen and the message saying the Globals are being reset. Hope this helps / makes sense

change BANKS order from ascending to descending?
datacommando replied to simmerswitch_'s topic in Helix
Hi, I don’t own a HXFX, but if you check in the Global Settings under Preferences > Page 2 > Knob 3 > Parameter = Numbering also in the Global Settings under Switches > Page 2 > Knob 2 > Parameter = Up/Dn Switch That’s what’s in the Owner’s Manual. I don’t know if this is what you want to achieve, but I hope it helps. -
HiHo ;-) I believe the guy’s name is “Jason” and he used to contribute on here, and can be contacted through his blog pages. When I last checked it stated the site was still in Beta development. Great news if we can get direct links to the site as it is an excellent resource for Helix users

Preset still rebuilding after update to 2.81 .....Why?

Yes, I know. Some of them are mine. Hahaahaaa! -
preset Where can I get earlier Helix version presets?
datacommando replied to Lawrence23's topic in Helix
Hi jester700, You are perfectly correct - my point was really about why the OP wants to dig around with a whole bunch of old presets. What’s the point in trawling through that stuff. The time could be better spent. There are certain patches in there that have survived right from the first iteration of the firmware that are then just replicated throughout. I’m with Digital_Igloo from when he came up with his print idea for a black t-shirt featuring the Helix “x” and the slogan “ALL PRESETS SUCK!”. - but that's just me! ;-) -
preset Where can I get earlier Helix version presets?
datacommando replied to Lawrence23's topic in Helix
Maybe not Line 6, but IIRC forum user Ben Vesco (Malhavok) keeps the older preset available from his site: http://benvesco.com/store/line-6-helix/ Although why you would want them is what I don't understand, if you use them they will need to be updated to the new format. I wouldn't want to spend my life watching my Helix rebuild presets - but that's just me! -
Preset still rebuilding after update to 2.81 .....Why?
datacommando replied to subseauk's topic in Helix
Well, I do know that if you have updated your firmware it should rebuild the presets on first boot up. That's just to get the onboard presets up to the latest standard revision. After that you may find that, if you have added any new presets from HX Edit and they were in and older format, the next time you spark up the Helix it will rebuild the presets again. This time it should be faster because it really only needs to rebuild the ones that are not up to date. So, if you have changed a whole heap of presets or loaded 30 or 40 freebies from custom tone the they will need to be brought into line with the new format. If it becomes really annoying then turn off your Helix and hold down foot switches 10 & 11 while you power up the Helix. This forces the rebuild routine and when it's done then it should remember they are now up to date. After that it should only happen when you load up any older presets. That was a long way round, but I think you should understand it. -
Good job some of these people who whine about updates have never had to deal with an old Roland GR33 System Update. Many years ago when I did mine it got completely screwed because this was not a simple connect to USB and squirt down some code. Nope, this was dealing with EPROMs and MIDI and when that went wrong you really did wind up with something that no longer functioned as a guitar synth! In fact it no longer functioned as anything. Used it prop the door open for the past 10 years. People today - Don't know nuthin'

Hi, As I noted previously, I spent most of yesterday afternoon going through every reboot/reset combination on the list. Plus I had done the "Upgrade existing presets to latest format" soon after getting the firmware installed and everything had been working perfectly until this Joystick thing manifested itself. The main worry for me was that the malfunction could have been a hardware failure, especially since it had only recently undergone a repair to a solder joint on the Joystick encoder. Once I had regressed to v2.71, I then knew it was not a hardware issue, phew, relief! My next plan of action would have been to re-install the latest firmware and see if the problem persists. So far, luckily it seems to be working fine once more. MonkeyXT's tip is worth knowing, although I am not certain that my touch on the encoder is any heavier or lighter, I'm just happy it works - for how long, who knows?

Thanks MonkeyXT, See update note above.

Hi, I was well aware of this change before I updated my Firmware. Someone had shown me a video of the fast scroll across the signal flow blocks while my Helix was away for a physical repair to the Joystick. What a novelty, I could hardly wait for mine to come back from the Service Engineer. I had been running through a lot of stuff for the first couple of days after installing 2.81 and didn’t notice any weirdness. Then this not responding to “click, select” came from out of nowhere. Bizarre. Multiple, reboots and resets changed nothing so I thought it could be that the hardware was damaged and regressed to 2.71 to check - all was as it should be. Good - no need to ship it back to the Service Centre. Now I am going to reinstall 2.81 and check out the thing again following the advice given above by MonkeyXT. This time I’ll try not to be as ham fisted with the encoder. I’ll report back later. EDIT: Update 3 hours later - BTW That's not how long it took, I had to do something else first. Simple reinstall of v2.81 seem to have squashed the "bug". I specify "BUG" because this phenomena sprang from nowhere. Things had been working just fine for a couple of days then - Joystick encoder malfunction! My main worry was that it was a hardware failure again. I now have it working, as it should, in both modes and I don't think my "Press, Click to Select" technique has been modified in any way. I will see how it works out from here. Extra special thanks to MonkeyXT for the tip.

Hi, This is a valuable bit of information - thank you! I will update to v2.81 and see how it performs. I have to admit it did seem very odd because I had been playing around with 2.81 for a couple of days and it seemed to be working without problems. Then, out of the blue, I clicked on a modulation block to swap it to a delay and got no response to the click. I then tried many other selections and presets, reboots, resets etc, with increasing frustration that if felt that if the joystick was not actually broken then my annoyance may do the job. Initially my main concern was that there was nothing physically wrong with the hardware Joystick after having it repaired only recently. Reverting back to a known version of the firmware that showed the Joystick worked predictably indicated to me that this was a bug, Nothing to lose by trying again. Thanks once more. Hi, Yep, that’s what you get when you do a reset with FS 7 & 8 - That combination is to “Reset setlists to Factory, Keep IRs” To Reset Globals on a Helix Floor unit you need the FS 5 & 6 combination while powering up. Hope this helps A full set of reset options and other good things available from: https://helixhelp.com Note: if this link takes you to a 404 page, click the “Take me home” link.

BUG - Another one for the intermittent Joystick function fault pile. Just when you think that everything is going perfectly. I encountered this issue this afternoon and I have now reverted to v2.71 and everything works as it should. The reason for my worry was that prior to v2.80, I had sent off my Helix for a repair to the Joystick which had a solder connection that had come adrift. When it returned from repair I installed v2.80 with no problems. This week I installed 2.81 and all was working fine until this emerged today. As the Line 6 service engineers gave me a 3 month warranty on the repair, I needed to verify that this was not a repeat of the hardware problem. It seems that this is down to something in the 2.80 and the 2.81 firmware and all the usual reset procedures didn’t resolve the buggy Joystick. Downgrade to earlier firmware fixes this. Description; of bug: While using the Joystick to select a block it would function normally in “jog mode”, but when you “press down to click select” It doesn’t always respond. Makes preset creation very difficult using only the Helix hardware. EDIT: Simple reinstall of v2.81 seem to have squashed the "bug". I specify "BUG" because this phenomena sprang from nowhere. Hi, You seem to be a little late to this party and drivers on Windows PCs seem to have been a large part of the issue. I’m guessing that you’re using Windows 10. Some threads which may contain helpful work arounds for the driver thing. https://line6.com/support/topic/48446-28-update-stuck-in-boot-failure-entered-update-mode/ https://line6.com/support/topic/48526-helix-lt-28-update-frozen/ https://line6.com/support/topic/48466-helix-lt-failed-while-updating-28/ https://line6.com/support/topic/48425-installed-28-helix-rack-bricked-cant-roll-back-boot-mode-does-fail/ I’m not a Windows mechanic so this is the best I can offer, although this place has been alive with this stuff. Hope this helps

Hi, If you have installed v2.81 HX Edit you may have a link back to the earlier version of HX Edit which is lurking on you Mac and the is causing the problem. Make sure that there is no shortcut back to the old version - an alias on your Mac, maybe in the Dock. On your hard drive there should be a folder named Line6 - this is where things like the Updater and HX Edit get installed. Check the latest date and version numbers by selecting Date Modified in the window view. Oh, and the "No Device Connected" message is correct if your Helix is not powered up how will the edit application know it exists? -
Complete newbie with modlers etc, am I doing something stupid??
datacommando replied to subseauk's topic in Helix
Hi again, This might seem like stating the bleeding obvious, but you can find what the the real amps and FX the Line 6 models are based on in the the Helix Owners Manual. Oops! Ok you might find this link useful in figuring out not only what the Amps and FX are based on, but also lots of tips for the common amp and FX settings. Plus all the Factory Reset info should you ever need it. https://helixhelp.netlify.com/ Have fun. -
Merci, Stan, Je suis content que votre Helix ait été mis à jour sans trop de problèmes. Heureux d'avoir aidé de façon modeste. S'amuser
