Hi, It seems that Line 6 decided on the tiny Museum icon as a general indication of the status of Legacy effects. If you need a particular effect and want less DSP stress, then use a legacy block and in the midst of battle most people would not know the difference. Most anything that you would normally place in your signal path before an amp, should be mono, and after the amp stereo. Essentially what is quoted in the manual. Anything else is basically a question of using your ears. The majority of the legacy effects have had new Helix versions created that are far higher quality. Granted there are quite few legacy blocks that have not crossed over, as of the current date, but who know what v3.15 firmware holds that department. Admittedly, before the Legacy category of items were added to the Helix I would hook up my old POD HD500 to my Helix, simply to be able to use the Dimensions block. Now that is one item I would like to see benefit from a reworking to the new model standard. I would not hold my breath hoping that Line 6 coders decide to create new icons for stuff they seem to regard as museum pieces.

Looks to me like you have answered your own question. Legacy Distortion, Dynamics & Pitch/Synth effects are mono = MONO Legacy Filter and Reverb effects are stereo = STEREO Oh, yeah - then there are these. Legacy Modulation & Delay effects vary in that some are mono, some stereo, and some mono-in/stereo-out, where adjusting the effect’s Mix parameter can narrow the stereo image that is fed into them. Well, that is confusing to the point of what happens when you actually put one of these blocks into the signal flow, and checking what comes out of the other end. Possible one of three options, would be my guess. Surely, if you write down the result of the test you will have the concise information and the list you are looking for. I was really hoping that someone else would have written this reply for me, but dammit - no, I had to do it myself. Oh, I just checked the date - it isn’t April 1st. Wow!

Hi, I don’t really understand the issue here. If you only want to use 4, 5 or 6 presets in your box of tricks just use only them. Simply because there are a stack of memory slots available, doesn’t mean you have to use them all. Recently a guy posted in here about only ever using one preset with different fx on each footswitch. I thought that was rather limiting considering his financial investment on the technology, but there is no right or wrong way to use this stuff. If you have a Helix, you could decide to fill all 1,024 slots with the same single preset - overkill, maybe - but whatever it takes I suppose. Enjoy your toy. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, If a picture is worth a thousand words, then you might find it beneficial to watch this video about this subject. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, I guess you have realised that HX Edit needs to be connected to a hardware unit to function. If you want to start to familiarise yourself with Helix editing, you could download the 15 day trial version of Helix Native plug-in and have a better idea of how it works within a DAW. If you purchase any Helix unit you can also buy Helix Native at the discount price of $99.99. If you are looking for someone selling their copy you need to check the dedicated Helix Native forum. https://line6.com/support/forum/90-helix-native/ As noted by “rd2rk” in the post above, your USB routing options for both processed and dry signals are all available via 8 channels. The Helix also can be configured as 4 separate stereo channels of audio, depending on DSP usage. Also, with regard to the Behringer FCB1010 you mentioned in another post, there are lots of people using those with Helix hardware and Native software without issues. As you have previously been using your POD HD500 with all your equipment, I would venture to suggest that you should have no problems with the Helix. Helix = more = better. Hope this helps/makes sense.

The point about “Speed”, “Rate”, “Frequency” or whatever = note length (divisions of time), has been covered in the previous posts in the thread. I’m sorry to say that if you don’t understand these time values, then you really don’t comprehend music. Time is how it works. Example: Tempo set at 120BPM means that a delay set for 1/8 notes will repeat every 250ms. If you change the Tempo to 110 BPM that same 1/8 notes will repeat every 275ms, but it will be synchronised. Once more - change the Tempo to 130BPM the 1/8 note repeats every 231ms, but it will be synchronised. Therefore, if you want your effects to follow the tempo use note divisions, 1/8, 1/32, 1/4, 1/2 or any other note division tied to the BPM (Tempo) to work perfectly in sync, whatever you choose. Fixed times do not work when you change tempo, unless you physically match them to the time. Simple. Please, download the preset I supplied and load it into your HXFX. Then simply play something through it, and without changing the note values on the effects, change the tempo and see how they stay locked together. If you want a longer/shorter synchronised delay time on the playback, change the note value, not the tempo. Hope this helps/makes sense.

I was testing it out recently with the Arturia DX7 module in the synth slot an I had Helix Native in the FX slot mainly using, modulation, delays and reverbs - works great. I haven't had the chance to really push it, but it worked great for what I was doing at the tme.

Hi, The Mono Gain block will collapse the signal to mono before output only when engaged. Bypass the block and the stereo is returned in all it's glory. Seems subtle enough to me, but maybe I missed the point.
-
Put a Mono Gain Block just before the final output - I just tried it, and it worked a treat, but I'm studio based and running my monitors on the Helix XLR outs. Nothing to lose, give it a shot. A gain block is no real load on the DSP. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, Simple solution - download the free demo and test it on your Mac. Lots of happy users out there. Also - When looking for clues Helix Native has its own forum, it might be worth checking in there. Regular contributor and Line 6 Beta Tester, "phil_m", has reported repeatedly that he has been using Native on Monterey for quite some time - no issues. Oh, yeah - Regarding your comment: "to see if it could be run in standalone (which I learned that it can't, which is a bummer)" Have you investigated this option? https://www.digitalbrain-instruments.com/freebies Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, You must be a necromancer - this thread expired in it’s tracks two years back. There are no Line staff in here, and only very occasionally do they visit these forums - See the “sticky comment” in the black banner stripe at the top of this page entitled “Welcome to the Line 6 forums!” This link is where you need to go to have any hope of your request been seen by anyone from Line 6: https://line6.ideascale.com/a/index Before posting any new ideas, please do a search to see if it's already been listed. Multiple requests for the same thing will thin out the votes. Also, post your ideas one at a time. Many users don’t vote for combined suggestions. You should then use the thread linked below to let other users know what your suggestions are, with links to IdeaScale, so they can vote on it if they wish. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, again, If you followed the notes about updating to v.3.15, you would have made a backup of your Stomp before performing the update. When the update was complete you would also have followed these instructions from the notes: Anything else I should know? Yes. We STRONGLY recommend performing a factory reset AFTER UPDATING your Helix/HX firmware to 3.15 and THEN RESTORING YOUR BACKUP. (Backing up is part of the update process). Here's how to perform a factory reset. IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP FIRST, AS A FACTORY RESET WILL ERASE ALL YOUR WORK! If you didn’t do a reset - here are your options. HX Stomp Button Combination Description All 3 Footswitches Clears all presets/IRs FS1+2 Resets presets and IRs FS 2+3 Factory restore (globals, presets, IRs To use Reset Options: Power off the Helix Hold the desired button combination Power on the Helix Release the button combination I’m also not too sure about your reference to “Mics”. There is only one Studio Microphone Preamp available (as shown in your screen shot). If you select an amp/speaker combination, or as separate components, you can then select what type of microphone is used with the speaker cabinet, and at what distance it is (virtually) placed from the speaker grille. There are lots of model choices and types - for example: dynamic, condenser and ribbon. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Yep! it’s right there in the Release Notes. I updated but why don't I see [Model X]? HX Edit can't magically see new models added to your Helix/HX hardware; you must update HX Edit as well (which you would've done had you followed "How do I update to 3.15?" above). Here's a link to HX Edit 3.15: macOS: https://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=11009 Windows: https://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=11007 Hope this helps/makes sense.

UPGRADING from PODGo to HELIX LT > Looking to bring my presets
datacommando replied to JohnnyFarace's topic in Helix
Hi, Short answer - No. The POD GO and Helix LT are two different beasts, their preset are incompatible. This came up on here recently, and a user with both a Helix and a POD GO, said his solution was to open the editors for both units and copy the preset block settings from the GO to the Helix one by one. Long winded but effective. Hope this helps/makes sense. Link: -
Hi. Yeah, again, lots of words and not very much to go on. Please upload a preset so that some of the good folks here can check out for any obvious weirdness. If it is something happening just when you connect you amps, then it could be that you're on your own, as we have no point of reference. As I understand it - you seem to be comparing the sound you get from your computer into monitors over USB, and the same sound of the Helix out to 2 different amps, we could well be entering the area of the dreaded Fletcher Munson Curve, which is a battle you win never win. If you are going to be playing live then you need to set all your presets at gig volume, anything else is a complete waste of time. Hope this helps/makes sense.

How to uninstall Helix drivers on Mac M1 Max running 12.3.1?
datacommando replied to boynigel's topic in Helix
Hi, A fresh install usually overwrites previous versions - at least it always has on all the Macs I’ve ever owned right back to 1988. Ensure that your Helix Global setting is 44.1kHz also, because you’re using that as your playback engine. The Mac and Helix need to match sample rates. Have you checked this? https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/audio-midi-setup/ams59f301fda/mac or this Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Oh, yes, that’s quite true, and not what I was intending to be the the point of my comment. As we are all aware - there are no right, or wrong ways, to utilise this digital modelling stuff. Each to their own, and whatever floats your boat, so to speak. It simply struck me as quite bizarre for someone to invest in this technology and then deliberately, or maybe unintentionally, choose not use it to it’s full advantage. I’ve been my using my Helix for several years now and I reckon that I’ve still not reached it’s full potential. The thing is astonishing, but if I just wanted half a dozen previous/earlier generation effects blocks in one unit, then there would be many, many other roads to travel. I am constantly amazed by some of the questions that constantly crop up in this and other forums, but it could just be me. ;-)

Hi, again, I just had another look at the picture attached to your OP and it struck me that all those FX assigned to the 6 footswitches are "Legacy" effects! I also realise your post opened with "I know it sounds weird. I only use one preset" Simple question - Why? Legacy effects were essentially ported over from the old POD farm models. The whole point of Helix modelling hardware is it is a superior system, and you aren't taking advantage of it's full sonic potential. Do me a favour and load up this preset (HXFX Demo) and you should see that the Mod and Delay effects are set to note divisions. You should then be able to see how it was done, after that you can play around with it as much as you like. Oh, yeah, one Opti Trem is set to 1/8th notes the other is set to 1/2 the Script Phase is a whole note sweep, and the Delay has 1/4 note repeats, and all they are all the Helix not Legacy effect blocks. This should now make sense. HXFX Demo.hlx

Hi, As pointed out by "codamedia" in the post above, the technique for swapping to note divisions is exactly the same. The only real difference with the Optical Trem is that first parameter knob is named "Speed" rather than "Time". This variation occurs throughout the Modulation effects, for example Phasers are labeled "Rate", as are Flangers, and some Chorus FX are listed as"Chor Rate", and Ring Modulation is "Frequency". These may have different naming conventions but their functions are the same, i.e. division of time. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, As I mentioned in the previous post, you can go to the Global settings and set the tempo to respond either globally, per preset, or snapshots. When in a preset that displays the time a milliseconds, but you want to display the timing in note values, simply press the first parameter knob (Time) to switch from one to the other. It actually states that in the “shortcut” box on the picture you posted above. If it’s a situation where you want to “fine tune” the tempo BPM from whatever the current setting is, simply touch (but don’t press) the TAP footswitch and then change the BPM value on the screen. Hope this helps/makes sense.
-
Hi, The tempo is not locked for every effect in the preset, it depends on how you set your time divisions. If you want things to work with any given tempo, 120BPM for example, you can set the note length to suit your speed. You can set a dual delay to playback with both 1/4 and a dotted 1/8 note lengths but these are then controlled by whatever tempo you set either in the Global settings, or in the individual preset, or even by tapping the tempo in using the footswitch. Those note lengths will not deviate from whatever timing you choose to use. Therefore, if you opt to use “TAP” tempo and you punch in 110, or any other arbitrary timing the note lengths will always be correct. On the other hand, should you decide with that dual delay example, that you want to set one at 250ms and the other at 500ms they will remain fixed at those timings no matter what tempo you play at. For example at 120BPM the delay set to 250ms will equal 1/8 and the other at 500ms is a 1/4 note. If you change the response tempo to 110 then those millisecond times are not going to work, because at 110 an 1/8 note = 273ms and the 1/4 = 545ms. Complex but very simple really. Check the Owner’s Manual Page 17. https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a411710a6112a67116f0b/application/pdf/HX Effects 3.0 Owner's Manual - Rev C - English .pdf Here’s a handy calculator. https://tuneform.com/tools/time-tempo-bpm-to-milliseconds-ms Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, There is a reason why it always shows people using HX edit. That's because it's how you load IRs into your helix hardware. It's the Librarian for your Impulse Response files. If the IRs are not loaded into the slots in HX Edit then they will not be available in your Helix. Click on the Question Mark icon in the lower left of the HX Edit window to access the HX Edit Pilots Guide v3.15 or get it here. https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a3f1049f61fd3077f0eca/application/pdf/HX Edit 3.15 Pilot's Guide - English .pdf You can also find the information about IRs, here on page 37. https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a3f041b611d61cac763b/application/pdf/Helix 3.0 Owner's Manual - Rev F - English .pdf Hope this helps/makes sense.

datacommando replied to Melissiah's topic in Helix Native
Really? What a genius - you posted this stuff here? Aw, c’mon - you have.a problem with Helix Native when you say that you also have a “kracked”version on hand ready to roll. Whachaexpect? How much other pirate sh!t you running? FFS! Jeeziz - please go and arrest yourself now! Kinell, are you lollipopting me? Ferfuksake! Comfortably numb? -
Bonjour. Si votre Helix a besoin d'être réparé, il existe trois centres de réparation Line 6 référencés pour la France. L'un est à Paris, un autre à Bordeaux, et aussi un à Lyon. J'espère que cela t'aides. Bonne chance.
