The Helix models are the latest and most advanced amp modeling algorithms from Line 6. The Spider V algorithms are reworked Pod Farm algorithms. That said, the Pod Farm models were used in many top flight recordings, and still sound good, I would give them a 7. There is no perfect amp for Helix. Front of an amp, into the effects loop, FRFR PA Speaker, Line 6 Powercab, Line 6 DT amps(have a digital connection for Helix), or studio monitors; it depends on how you plan to use the Helix. 3. Digital modelers are option that many find equal or superior to tube amps, others like the dynamics that a tube amp can give. Both have their pluses and minuses. Tube amp are easy to tweak, there aren't that many tonal options, but you have to have the amp that makes the right tone for you, or have several amps. Digital modelers give you an incredible number of ways to build your tone, and since they model most famous amps, you get to find the flavor of amp that you like. Honestly, there is nothing like a cranked tube amp, but today there are not many places to play that loud, so digital amps are a great option. I have a Helix/DT amp setup, and a Spider V 240. The Spider is a great all in one package that sounds great too. 4. The Spider V 240 is the top of the line Spider. Depending on if you gig or not, a 60 or 120 may be plenty loud. The DT amps are Line 6's hybrid digital preamp/ tube power amp amplifier. I have them, they are great. The Powercab is another top of the line option- a PA type speaker that emulates a traditional tube amp and cabinet. Good luck!

Go to the Downloads page above, select Spider V 20 as your hardware. Select the operating system of your laptop. Scroll down and you'll find the driver. Install it and you should be good to go.

Wrong forum, this is Spider V forum. But, since you asked- the amp probably isn't repairable. I don't think they sell circuit boards, and it will cost you more to repair it than to buy a used one.

There are no parameters to adjust in classic mode since there are no cabinet models. Use the effects models to affect your tone.

You can restore the original presets by doing a Factory Reset (hold down the Home button, scroll down to Factory Reset) If you haven't yet, you should do a software download of the new Mk.II software. Just use Spider Edit PC/Mac software to download the new version. Don't forget to backup your current presets before doing the Factory Reset and/or Mk.II update.

They don't. You'd have to plug into the front of the amp.

What different effect are you wanting? The Spider has more than 200 effects- 78 amp models, distortions, overdrives, EQ's, compressors, delays, reverbs, modulation effects, etc. built in. As Stonefx said, you might want to get one of the available floorboard controllers to access the effects like a regular effects pedal. The whole idea of the Spider series is to have an all in one solution to finding the amp tone, and the added effects to create your guitar sound.

It's easy to do for yourself, plus it has the advantage of letting you experiment with the parameters to find your desired tone. There are only a few amps that are class A designed- Vox, Matchless, Fender Champ and Supro.

The DT amp settings aren't set for each amp model from the factory. They are just giving you the option to set each preset to control the DT the way you like. It's just another option of tone control that you can use a preset 2 store. You might like a marshall with a Class A output stage, or a Vox with class A B. It's up to you.

What do you mean fix? Control over the DT amps is a new feature with the 2.8 Helix software update. Up until now, you had to change the software in the DT amp, connect a midi cable, and use DT Edit to configure the amp and then create a midi cc in your Helix preset to control the DT. Now, that's all done by the Helix. All you have to do is connect the Line 6 Link and go to the page I mentioned and you can see all the parameter sliders that control the DT. Here's a few tips when you're on that page: load a preset in the Helix navigate to the output block and click locate the DT25/50 page select and click Choose Preset mode to be able to control the amp via presets (global and off are the other options) The top slider controls what preamp will be active- Helix or DT. Select the one you want The next 3 sliders control the Topology, Class A or B, and Pentode/Triode modes The next slider turns the onboard DT reverb on or off, the next control the default amount of the reverb. The last 3 sliders control the "hidden" DT50 only options. To add Snapshot control over a slider, either click on the slider cursor (square box) and press "S" on your keyboard, or right click on the slider, scroll to the bottom and select Snapshot. This way you can control the DT parameters via Snapshots. Hope this helps.

You can control the DT Amp with the helix with just the line 6 link cable attached. Go ahead and re-initialize your DT so that the stock amps are loaded into the preamp section. Connect the Line 6 link cable. When you open up a preset on the Helix, navigate to the output block. You will see a Tab that says DT 25/50. Click on that and you can select all the parameters of the amp with every Preset Individually. You don’t need to connect a midi cable anymore. The helix is totally compatible now.

Obviously simulcast was mentioning a different amp- the Spiver V. I guess it's a homemade amp he's been playing in his parent's basement. But as a 45 year old, he doesn't get out much...

Helix is now 100% compatible with DT amps with the release of the 2.8 Works great!

The hardware is the same, but the software is different! Very important because the new software includes the "Classic" mode which makes the amp sound more like a traditional combo amp. You can buy a Spider V MkI and download the new software to make it identical sounding to a MkII.

How much time did you spend with it?

You can't update the software via Android or IOS. You have to use the Line 6 updater program which is only available on Mac or PC.

If you are asking whether or not you can load external IR's into a Spider amp, the answer is no. The amp and cab models are imbedded into the amps software and can only be changed through a software update from Line 6. That said, there are a ton of different cab models in the Spider software that can give you a wide range of tones.

The mk 1 is identical to three mk 2, except for a bit of cosmetics. Find a good deal on a mk 1 and do the update and you're set.
