  1. In my experiences with modeling products from any manufacturer there are always variations in tone and volume levels among amp and cabinet models. Most of the time that depends more on what the modeled amp was based on. A 50W Marshall, 100W Soldano, 100W Plexi, 120W 5150 or Rectifier, 85W Twin, 40W Deluxe, etc. Expect variations in cabinet volumes as well. Not just in cabinet level, but also which mic was used and at what setting. Many brands of speakers have different bands of freq's extended more than others. That will have a volume and tonal effect. What I do since I don't like to change where I have the gains and levels of the Amp models is to use PEQ post amp to balance the patch levels. Most of the time, my clean amp models can be boosted to that of the higher gain models easily this way. Even if you use PEQ in the output you don't have to change the frequency you have selected. Just adjust the band gains evenly to compensate for volume variation. In the Spider amps, it's good to use the PEQ for this. A volume block would have been nice to have, but you can do the same with PEQ freq band gains provided you tweak each evenly. Everyone will do things differently, but I follow many PEQ methods for leveling and for honing in the best sound from the amp models. Others may want to use just the amp model volume, but I prefer not to since it drastically can affect the dynamics of that amp model. Level changing post amp and cab works better. Even if you do not fine tune bands with Post EQ you can use that to boost or lower amp model volumes. This really helps when using high gain models. When having high gain models active, use less gain at higher amp stage volumes. The higher the gain the more it will feedback or sound thinner that it does when the amps master volume is set lower. Things change when you move more air. I like to use different preset BANKS to accommodate my live sound for gigging, and for presets I use to record, or presets I use for low volume playing.
  2. As with most Line 6 products: 1. Download Line 6 Updater software for your product 2. Connect device to USB port on your computer 3. Updater utility will verify firmware (current or not). Many times units in production are behind current firmware. 4. User decides to update or not * on occasion some updates can change patch tones, so users may choose not to update. Most computers on the W10 should have ample hardware to run the updater. Where you may want to have more RAM is when operating a DAW (recording) software setup. 8GB min for most of the latest DAW software. It does not require much Ram or CPU to run the Line 6 editors.
  3. Did you check the buffer size in the settings of your DAW. Set them lowest you can go without ticking or noises or latency. Other thing I would verify if you have the latest drivers for the amp.
  4. Same with the newer Note 8 phone. Good to know! Thanks
  5. I don't know if that is more a Line 6 issue vs an Apple issue. Kind of like what happened with a lot of users on Samsung tabs and phones. All required certain OTG hardware adapters to work for those. I had similar problems with other products that use mobile apps. Not always mfg specific, many times it is something else, oddball settings, security issue with a user's isp router, or having to change drivers etc. Unfortunately, they cannot test every device each user may have been using for their access. Last I read in some post, the access to Customtone are in the process of being added for the newer Mac/Win versions of Spider Remote. How true that it, I don't know. That Mac Win app came out recently. That to me was a nice gift since the unit was primarily based on a mobile app for edits. Give it some time.
  6. Your DAW software should indicate clipping status of the input. Set it to a level that is always below clipping when tracking. You can always edit for track gain in post if needed.
  7. I find you can spend more time cloud searching, and less time just using the panel interface. The app for Win and Mac also works great. I also like creating my own sound because they are on my own guitars when I tweak them. Plenty of presets from factory to get base tones and effects as reference. Just change amp models, cabs, mics and see what you like more.
  8. Submit a support ticket to factory service. They may be able to solve the issues. If it needs repaired or replaced, they'll let you know. It's always a good thing when a buggy unit goes down under warranty. They can fix it and then you probably won't ever have another problem. It's when a repair is out of warranty and fails that it really hits.
  9. If you have the latest firmware, the latest software drivers for the Spider V Remote support you may have to Submit a support ticket to Line 6 I would try connecting to the computer, run the Line 6 Updater utility. Select the Unit Model and then see what the updater reports. It may auto update the amp. Do you have the same problems with the amp not connected to a computer, phone or tablet? If so, maybe try reinstalling the firmware, and be certain to get the additional driver updates. http://line6.com/software/index.html
  10. Headphone out runs off the master volume. Try changing the level. Does it disable the amp's output when you insert the headphone plug into the headphone jack?
  11. Turn off amp and cabs and use as an amplifier for the POD. Might be some DSP coloring.
  12. Pitch effects are resource heavy. Where in the chain do you have them. I notice some latency when using them with exp. It's not real bad, but I don't expect it to be real time either. That takes some high side dsp ready hardware. Drop in gain may be depending on where you add the effect. Pre or Post amp. I do pitch Pre most of the time so yes it will have some affect on gain because you are modulating that signal. It can do the same post amp because you are modulating the output. Try mixing the effect level down some. It may tend to get choppy but I sort of like playing around with that noise. It's like an old video game on a 4 or 8 bit console.
  13. Check to make sure you downloaded the latest software update and drivers as well. They are listed below the Spid Remote PC download. Some users are having to grab this to get the Spider V Rem software to initialize. Windows 7 and Windows 10 users seem to have the most trouble. Windows 10 after the last major update (some security update messed with driver signing). https://line6.com/software/index.html
  14. Seems kind of like snapshots. I think that would depend on the DSP handling.
  15. Most of the newer phones and tablets require OTG connectors for anything USB related. Storage, hardware etc.
  16. Tried to load the android app on my son's S6. Didn't work. Uninstalled. Installed again. Worked. I have the OTG (on the go) connector. That is required for USB host functions. That is a Samsung/Android thing, not Line 6 issue. App works on my older Note 4 and newer Note 8.
  17. What kind of phone? Certain models may require OTG connectors Make sure the switch in the back is set to USB PC Android
  18. I learned that at a show. Rep at Sweetwater said the same but I think they mistook how this operates vs the G10 with charger base. Cool thing is the G10T will run 6-7 hrs between charges. Some of the gigs I do we set up long before we play. I either run the amp and charge the G10T, or use the USB charge cable they made for this as an option. I can recharge the G10T and not worry about the amp being on. Even before I got the USB charge cable the G10T always had plenty of juice for the gig. Band was tracking drums in studio and I was using G10T all day without a recharge. I just fed the XLR outs to the drummer's mix while we tracked drums. Amp master vol off. On breaks the G10T went into sleep mode which saves battery life even when plugged into the guitar.
  19. G10T won't charge if amp is off. They do make a USB charge cable. It's 15 bucks on Amazon or most stores https://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-LIN-G10CABLE?src=Y0802G00SRCHCAPN&adpos=1o3&scid=scplpLIN+G10CABLE&sc_intid=LIN+G10CABLE&gclid=CjwKCAjwj8bPBRBiEiwASlFLFe1DHOHi9juJSNPzN1OUIVDwWhRpNGxszhkzIgedQun3ulc9_eNvIBoC_woQAvD_BwE
  20. What I found is that I like the high gain amps when I also use a PEQ after the cab. Treadplate, Engl, all sound more what I expect when I have the EQ active in presets. Look at the Youtube clips that show what a difference maker that EQ can be. The Head sound you experience will be dependent on what you use for a cabinet and speakers in the cabinet.
  21. Give it time. Request changes at ideascale. Originally, this was mobile based functionality. No area at customtone was set up for Spider V. If they do choose to do that, I'm sure we'll know. They gave us PC and Mac editors and a means to save files to our own computer locations. They also added backup and restore via PC Mac editor. Adding another area to Custom Tone may be redundant. I think the mobile idea for Spider V was to provide user simple access to artist and other tones managed in the cloud.
  22. The MV is separate from the preamp out. That provides a user to have level control of the amp if running direct. If they were tied together, then the dir out would be altered with MV control assigned to the expression pedal. Vol pedal is pre amp (pre wah) or post EQ config.
  23. There is no Custom Tone option for Spider V at this time. Only the original mobile based apps have options for the User community upload and Custom sounds. PC and Mac options became available just a short time ago. If any features are to be added that may come at a later time.
  24. PC and Mac editors have backup and restore. You can also save individual presets to personalized file folders on your computer. Backups for the mobile apps are cloud based, or you can save them to "My Tones" which is an internal folder within the app. There is no full backup and restore utility on the app version as far as I know.
  25. Connect USB to the Spider V, set switch to PC/Mac/Android Power on Spider V, start up editor
