Is there a way to reduce the brightness of the backlighting of the scribble strips?

I got a MONO M80 a while back and it worked nicely for several solutions. I actually shot a quick video on it and forgot about it - I'll link it up below - shows the AX8 and EV-1 or the Helix:

I've never had one modeler that sounded good through headphones. Maybe a better solution is to get a set of noise cancelling headphones for your wife - that would probably be easier.

Maybe this link showing the issue will work: http://www.mediafire.com/download/18tqznnkcqh7xbe/IMG_2283.MOV

Well, I'd attach a video of the problem but I can't figure out how.

I noticed playing this afternoon that footswitch 5 (the one next to mode that is normally assigned to looper) would react as it had been touch selected when I stepped on it with my foot. Even if I step on it quite quickly it asks me to assign whatever block you are on as bypass. None of the others seem to do this. I can hit it really fast with my finger and it does the same thing. I'm on the latest firmware. I just reloaded the firmware and did a global reset. Can anyone confirm for me this is not a bug? If not I guess I need to arrange an RMA...

That didn't really answer my question. I know when I pull a block down to a parallel path there is a volume increase. I can see it on my mixer because I go from green to red (clipping). I need to know how much that increase is so I can compensate for it somehow (in the merge block)? It's an increase and therefore - a problem. If I had a better mixer at home I could figure it out. If I have patches that use parallel paths and those that don't - I need to balance the volume between them.

Yes I know there's another thread on this but it's dead and I wanted to ask some more questions. I write most patches to be used in house of worship to the board scenario - so I have to control volume increases. The Helix doesn't have an internal VU meter and my cheap mixer at home only shows the signal is clipping - so I'm trying to understand the volume jumps of a parallel path. If I have a pretty simple setup - amp > delay > reverb and I pull the delay or reverb down into a parallel path (creates y split and merge block automatically) - how much is the volume actually increasing? To compensate for that increase, should you lower the volume at the merge block? Any other advise or recommendations for someone setting up patches and trying to limit volume like I do?

So if I pull delay for example down to a parallel path from reverb - reduce the merge block of the delay by 6db?

I like Beavers.

I'd be nice if we had an internal VU meter (like the AX8) so you could see what your patch internal level was - that way you wouldn't have to use an external mixer. Hintity, hint hint.

I demoed my AX8 this weekly and frankly the tones are blowing me away. I like the size of the unit better too. I'm going to ride this train for a while - I had the Helix since Oct anyways - I like to change it up.

Christy Turlington! Wait, where am I...

I'd like to see a Helix model with built in power amp - kind of like Kemper has. That way you only have to have a cab if you don't want to go direct - or need it for any reason. There could be a solid state version at one price point - and a tube one at another. That would be cool wouldn't it - a Helix with Tubes. (May as well make it where you can re-bias and use whatever tubes you want too - I mean if you're gonna go all the way why not :))
-
Remember a company is always thinking about its strategic vision. That's where are we 5 years from now? So, if they've released Helix - that vision is realized. You better believe though if they've let that one out of the bag - something else is in the wing. For the next few years they'll probably discuss and design the next big thing - protypes in about 3 years - and release as soon as they can after that.
-
I don't think they ever stop updating a product until the hardware simply can no longer handle the processing. At that point that hardware remains on it's last firmware revision while everything else jumps forward. They def still release minor updates to the older stuff like bug fixes though - but I was referring to improvements.
-
If I had I Mark V I don't think I'd need a Helix...just saying. Maybe an Eventide H9 - that's about all I'd need.

The speaker modeling is key and you took it out of the equation. Fractal has said over and over it is designed to be used direct. If you took out the speaker modeling you took out the weakness of the Helix as some would argue, and the area the AX8 shines the most - so basically you just compared Helix and AX8 preamps with your amp's power amp and cab. To me using an expensive unit like this with an amp proves nothing. It has to stand on its own direct.

Try it with headphones. That should take it down a notch or two LOL.

I'm still waiting on mine - signed up on the 20th and they are still shipping to the 13th I think. The Helix has them on design and interface for sure - bout how about effects and amp modeling? If the sound quality is really that much better I don't really care about the interface - I can menu dive if I have to for superior effects and amp modeling. I already know they have way more content - at least for now.
-
Line 6 - (long time fan) The Helix hardware (interface) is incredible. Literally better than anything available or ever dreamed of. If I had to think up one complaint or wish I guess it would be that they had left off the volume/expression pedal to cut down on the size of the unit and weight - and just let you chose your own pedal(s). You've got the hardware - inside and out. You have the most attractive product out there. You've got a great start on your content... BUT, if you don't continue to work on this thing diligently - meaning releasing new content (amps, cabs, effects) and improving existing content (bug fixes etc) at least monthly - you will lose your momentum. Sooner or later your design will be topped. What will keep people coming back is the community you've built and the content. You cannot approach updates and content with this product like you have with those you've done in the past if you want to stay competitive. Keep em coming...
