  1. I've read Line 6 left out the Controller section (sending MIDI CCs via the footswitches to external devices) because they thought it would make the manual too long. Not because it has a small form factor. It could be added, and would make the devices more compatible. I think its a major shortcoming for the Stomp, and the only reason I returned it. Yeah, why did they add the MIDI out if you can't really use it for much?!
  2. The problem with the Stomp is not that it can receive MIDI messages from a third party pedal (it does), but that it cannot send MIDI control messages like the other Helix devices. (It does not include the Command Center stuff). In answer to the Mongoose, I think it only sends program changes via MIDI, so could only use it to change presets. You need a controller that will send MIDI CC (control change) commands. The Stomp manual includes a list of stuff you can control, such as Tuner on/off.
  3. This is normal behavior for some (myself included). Others go the opposite direction, but they often have roadies.
  4. Take a look at Audi MIDI Setup (Mac application) and see if you can assign your input and output there. Take a look in the Audio Devices window, and you can assign stuff in the left panel. And check out the USB Audio section in the Stomp manual to make sure your USB audio is set up correctly.
  5. OK, I see. I'd test it here, but I use an HX Effects these days. You could post in the regular Helix forum here. I'm sure you'll get more ideas and input....maybe a Stomp user could give it a go. The Audient looks like a decent interface, so I would think you could get a good sound using guitar > Audient > DAW > Helix Native if all levels (guitar, Audient, HXN) were optimized. But you would know much better than I since you have the equipment there. If so, that would be easiest!
  6. Interesting. FYI, I haven't had any problems since my last entry in this thread from Oct 2018. I used MIDI control at every gig. Running two separate mono paths/channels through the HX.
  7. Exactly. In the early days of Helix, I bought one to experiment for use as the main component for solo singer/songwriter stuff requiring 4 inputs (sax/mic, blues harp/mic, vocal/mic, and guitar ....acoustic and Variax acoustic). I wanted to use the Helix as an effects processor and mixer for the various inputs, as well as a guitar amp modeler). I was even using an phantom power supply needed for one of the non vocal mics, and using MIDI extensively for control and mixing. The experiment failed (only because I was asking too much of the Helix and it was never designed for what I was trying to use it for). Now I use a small digital mixer (XR12 with MIDI control) along with an HX Effects. The HX is used for guitar and other effects. Works great. I still think, however, that you could use a Helix effectively as the only mixing/fx device (with powered speakers) for just vocal and guitar in a singer/songwriter situation. Just don't ask too much of it. At some point you (and you'll know when you reach that point!) you really need multiple pieces of equipment.
  8. Do you still have the Helix LT to test and see how it sounds? Sure, using a Stomp jacked into the Audient would work. But using the Stomp > usb > DAW would (theoretically) sound better. Why would it be a "change cables" problem. You should just have it connected via USB, and be able to select the Stomp as your audio input within your DAW when you want to record a DAW track.
  9. ...or get a Variax electric geetar with acoustic guitar models. Especially useful if you need alternate tunings.
  10. The simple answer to the OP's original question for this thread is Yes.
  11. I'm starting to have horrible flashbacks....

  13. Dang. Sorry to hear that. Wish we could help. If it was me, I'd go totally non-linear. I'd 1) unauthorize the software, 2) trash all the Library>Application Support>Line 6>Helix Native files and the plug-in (in Library>Audio>Plug-ins>Components, 3) re-install the software, 4) re-authorize. You got nothing to lose at this point, methinks.
  14. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) (resorting to ASCII Emoji)
  15. The smart software companies and the ones supporting their customers had their software up and running on Intel chips when the PowerPC migration came. The only thing I left behind was a TC Electronics PowerCore, and that was a PCI hardware card. I'll worry about an Apple migration when it comes. For now, we've got Workbench abandonware and if they threw some resources at it it would work on current and future machines. We're still using our Variax guitars!
  16. study pages 32—38 of the manual, that should have the info you need. it covers snapshots and controller assignments.
  17. if an audio device has been removed, Logic pro usually reports that it is no longer available. maybe it was part of an aggregate device. anyway, glad its working for you!
  18. @beckybrown -- have you tried using HX Edit instead of the front panel to do your edits. Its usually a lot easier to figure out stuff using the editor software.
  19. If you sell your hardware in less than 180 days, a group of men show up at your door and smash your computer with sledge hammers. It happened to my neighbor.
  20. For https://1drv.ms/u/s!AugMNUffMM-8jB2exbJn9xhVppb8 could you just remove the pickups, and then custom cut a new pick guard without the pickup holes?

  22. Yeah, its starting to sound like an authorization file somewhere in the Mac files is getting rewritten or set to a value. Resetting it might be a fix. Or trashing it. But can't trash it if don't know what the file is, so using Reaper or Garageband is for sure worth a try.
  23. So, I did a quick experiment (MacBook running OS10.13.6). 1. with wi-fi active, launched Logic Pro and opened Helix Native (activated authorized). Helix Native working just fine. 2. turned off all network adapters using Mac Preferences > Network 3. Helix Native is still working just fine. I also tried closing Logic, then launching Logic and opening Helix Native after all network adapters were turned off. Everything worked normally. So what's the root cause of all this brouhaha? I dunno!
  24. Line 6 customers shouldn't have to resort to keeping an old computer or performing Java workarounds just to use their trusty old Variax guitars with Workbench. There are a few things we can do to pressure Line 6 to update Workbench so it works with recent computers and operating systems: 1) open a support ticket here https://line6.com/support/tickets/add.html and the more the merrier. Squeaky wheel gets the grease. 2) be vocal on these and other forums 3) vote for support in Line 6 Ideascale right here. You'll need to register for Ideascale if you haven't already. (In my opinion, the lack of legacy Variax support shouldn't require an "idea" for submission. But sometimes you gotta approach a problem from all angles.)
