  1. Just in case you missed this promotion in other threads. Not sure how long the deal lasts.... https://shop.line6.com/software/helix-native.html
  2. .... this all seems so ding-danged random. I run my system with wi-fi turned off all of the time and things are OK. Maybe you have to wear a certain color of shirt?
  3. Good to hear the glitch gap isn't a big deal. This method would be perfectly adequate for live performance use....thanks for sharing. When using Helix Native as a guitar amp/fx modeler for DAW recording, you would use the same preset for a given track, and use the Snapshots for toggling or changing FX or amp blocks. This method works great for automation during mixing.
  4. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but this is just a workaround, right? Helix Native is not responding to MIDI program change messages to change presets; and Helix Native does not directly support support Program Changes. Instead, Reaper is just changing Helix Native saved "states" (which include different presets). I'm assuming its a bit glitchy and leaves an audio gap while the plug-in reloads, but this would probably work for live use where you've got a bit of a pause between tunes. You can do this same sort of thing in Logic Pro X using MIDI to change channel strip settings: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFMoume6JEs
  5. These sorts of problems are aggravating. I wish Line 6 would address them. Have you filed a support ticket with them? If they get enough complaints maybe there will be results. After the plug-in is validated (according to Logic) it should run without problems even with no internet connection, so I'm not sure what's wrong. I've been running Helix Native on Mac OS 10.12.X for quite awhile with no issues, so am not able to replicate what you're seeing. Sorry....
  6. Sounds like something wrong with the AU plug-in authorization. If you go into Logic's Preferences>Plug-In Manager does Helix Native appear to be "successfully validated"? While Native shouldn't need to "phone home" if you've already authorized it, you might want to make sure you have a good internet connection and see if that makes a difference. Turn off any network monitors or firewalls. Some have had success by reinstalling the plug-in, then reauthorizing. Many have had similar issues, but I haven't read of a simple fix that works for everyone.
  7. ??? It "appears" from the video he is sending MIDI Program Changes via Reaper, but Helix Native doesn't support Program Changes (at least not according to the manual or any testing I've done). I'm still a skeptic... Here's what the youtube poster says "for this vide, simply create a new midi event on a intros track and use that tracks io to send midi to the track hosting helix. Edit that midi item using the events list instead of the piano roll. Add some events and change type to pc and put in the pcs you want. After that it was easiest to me to copy the midi item and pate it, then edit the event for another pc. This way I could put them exactly where I want in the timeline and be also sure that it sent only one message at the time I wanted. Sending multiple messages is a common problem for many guitar plugins and can lead to slowing and crashes. That sad, I will look into an event based script and get back to you ASAP" But how did he bind the Program Changes to Native and is that even possible?!
  8. I'm curious .... who has succeeded, what did they use, and how did they succeed? Is there a video or instructions?
  9. I think Line 6 intended and designed Helix Native as a DAW plug-in for recording great guitar tracks, and not as a virtual MIDI-controlled software stomp box.
  10. Do you have any sort of firewall or network filter (like Little Snitch) running that might interfere with the "phone home" part of Native authentication? Just a random thought....
  11. Obsidian is OK for metal, but its too brittle and shrill (my opinion) for R&B, rock, pop, etc. We need Helix bass preamp models such as REDDI, Avalon, Firefly, Sans Amp, etc.
  12. Save a tree. Read the PDF on your tablet, smart phone, or computer. Its searchable!
  13. All you are reporting works fine for me here with Logic Pro, so I have no idea what's going on with your system.
  14. Sorry to hear about your trouble, and wish I could help. I don't know what the root of your problem is.... Are you even able to open the plug-in within Logic? (With wi-fi on or off?) If so, are you able to get into your account (under My Account in the lower left corner, via Sign In… or Manage Account…)
  15. Did you read through the below forum thread to see if there are any clues? The cocoaview error is usually associated with an AU plug-in authentication problem, which you are having. Have you tried de-authorizing, deinstalling, and then re-installing and re-authorizing? https://line6.com/support/topic/36834-helix-plug-in-on-macos-permanent-spinner/
  16. I buy open-box gear (music and consumer electronics) often, but only if the item 1) is from a reputable dealer (including GC as mentioned), 2) is appropriately discounted, 3) comes with full warrantee, 4) comes with the usual 30-day money-back guarantee. I also will buy "refurbished" if it's heavily discounted, carries a limited warrantee, and comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Firmware version is a non-issue for me. So far I have had no problems, and have gotten some excellent deals. Last year I even found an open-box Variax Standard online at Musician's Friend for a 40% discount off MSRP, had it shipped to my local Guitar Center (they're affiliated), checked it out when it arrived (it looked as good as new), bought it (with 30-day money back guarantee), took it home, did a complete set-up to see if it was seaworthy (it was), and am still using it to this day.
  17. ....and practice on some presets you're not worried about losing. After you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature. Within Logic Pro, I also save the plugin state, in addition to saving the preset within Native. Double backup!

    HX Effects

Yes, you can do it.Sorry, I'm on the road now and can't do a walk-through, but others will join in.... In the meantime my best tip is to use HX Edit and not the manual and front-panel to create and edit presets — its much much easier to figure out.
  19. I recently had to do a special order for a Line 6 Variax part via Full Compass (as suggested by Line 6). That was a total cluster fark. After a 3 week wait (funds were also withdrawn when I placed the order), plus a crazy high "drop-ship" charge, Yamaha Group sent the wrong part. It took a months worth of calls to Full Compass to get a return authorization and refund. After all that, I contemplated trying again but instead repaired the bad circuit board with a $1 part from Mouser. OK, that also concludes my ranting of frustrations.
  20. Helix Native currently supports Snapshot changes via MIDI, but not patch/preset changes.
  21. Get an Apple CCK (Camera Connection Kit); the one that also supplies power to the iPad via Lightning (I thinks its called the USB 3 CCK). Its USB out, so you would use USB MIDI. Works with any iPad app that sends MIDI. If you need legacy 5-pin MIDI, you'll need a simple converter. You can go wireless with an iPad, but would need a separate wireless setup. The apps mentioned work great for controlling presets and providing lyrics at the same time. The SetListMaker iPad app is a vital part of my live gig setup, and controls all my MIDI stuff, setlist, and lyrics.
  22. This may or may not work for you, but thought I'd mention it. I perform solo (guitar/vocal) and have to switch things easily on the fly, so prefer to use MIDI to change Helix presets for songs (using one preset per song). The app SetListMaker can run on iPhone or Android, and will send any MIDI (such as Helix preset change) when you select a song from your song list (with a simple tap). If you keep your Helix in Snapshot mode, then you can use MIDI to select any song/preset, and use Helix buttons to change Snapshots.
  23. Wait just dog-gone minute. There is no "learn" function in Native. You must be talking about a learn function in Reaper or RealLearn, right?
