Loving some of the git tones on the new Doyle Bramhall II album. Any ideas on how you'd approach this tone on the "Hammer Ring" tune? Solo starts at about 2:40 in.....

Group Therapy Session for Helix Owners Who Bitched About the Tuner

Line 6 should remove this thread or at least change the title. Its a false accusation. Glenn has worked hard creating original patches for this community. I think those who have bought them would agree they're top tier.
-
Yes, you could do that. And you should get together with this guy:

get in touch with Glenn via his website, he's always been quick to respond to me....

Notice my changed global settings were dropped on the HX Effects after update. Had to restore my base MIDI channel.

1. Snapshot mode switches parameters and switch states from within a preset and set of blocks. So if you have the effects you want to turn on or off in the same preset, yeah you could use Snapshot commands to do that. Otherwise, you would use preset changes .... but Snapshots are better for changes within a song. 2. 10 buttons would make sense if you know what you'd use them for between those two devices during a gig. I always try to keep my floor real estate and complexity at a minimum, so the fewer buttons the better. But if you need 10 more, why not? BTW, the Helix reverbs do a fair job of replicating BigSky, so you may want to compare and see if you need both.

I always use an IR (with acoustic guitar), but always before any stereo effects, as it is a mono block and I think will reduce to mono. I view the IR as tone shaping, so hasn't been an issue for me. If necessary, you could use 2 mono 1024 sample IRs in 2 blocks and use a split path, but that eats up some of your blocks. There are a few IRs preloaded, don't remember how many. Yes, you HX Edit supports IR importing for the HX Effects.

LOTS of fixes for the HX Effects unit. For those of us having mysterious unit freezes, there are two mentions of "freeze fixes" (hope thats the last of 'em): ◦ HX Effects only—Clearing or cutting a block on Path B from HX Edit could sometimes HX Effects to freeze when in stomp footswitch mode — FIXED ◦ HX Effects only—Switching from a preset with a Split > Crossover block to a preset with a Split > A/B block could sometimes cause HX Effects to freeze — FIXED

Yes, that will work just fine...

The B7K leans more towards being a modern digital overdrive/distortion pedal with EQ; great for metal, hard rock. The REDDI is a big honkin' old-school analog tube-driven preamp, perfect for that fat round tone in hip-hop, R&B, rock, country, and pop. There's a reason so many recording engineers swear by it. Having both bass pre’s modeled would be the best of both worlds! Whatever, I'm getting the tone I want through the Kush plug-in for tracking.
-
Good info in this thread for bass players. For those of you who do some recording, I want to recommend again that the Kush REDDI DI preamp plug-in is fantastic. I'm not affiliated with Kush; I just love this plug-in. I use it for straight DI tracks, as well as a plug-in insert right before Helix Native to get better harmonics and saturation. Sometimes I'll blend a DI/REDDI track with a Helix amp modeled track. Here's a short review. And .... I do wish Line 6 would provide a good bass preamp model in some future release.

The manual says to change an FX block, you need to be in Stomp mode, select the foot switch for the block you want to change, then use the Big Knob to change it. All well and good, but what if.... I have a number of presets for which I "de-assigned" its foot switch. I do this to cut down on the number of lit buttons for certain blocks that I like to leave on (eq, compression, etc), or sometimes I have several blocks assigned to a single foot switch. In that case, how do I use (without using HX Edit) change a block if it has no single foot switch assigned to it?
-
A agree, @Lachdanan0121. I struggled for months to get a good bass sound for rock/pop/alt mixes using Helix Native. Recently, a small company named Kush came out with a REDDI bass preamp plug-in and bingo, I was able to get the tone I was after quickly. So I know its possible using DSP. An update to bass-centric preamps, amps, and cabinets would be very useful to those of us who record and mix, and would expand sales to more bassists. Yeah, the dry parallel path capability really helps, but something seems to be lacking in the modeling and effects for bass.

In the U.S. we really like having lots of backpacks, and stuff them with Kevlar bullet-proofing.

I think I hear the SWAT team at your door....

It's wise to wait to buy audio software and plug-ins until Black Friday and holidays. Almost every vendor has deep discounts during that time. I have my shopping list ready!

Its in the manual. Global Settings > Footswitches > etc

I've gotten really good results using one of the Kush Omega preamps (especially the 458A) or Kazrog's True Iron preamp plugin before HXN. It gives it color and oomph. You could also try adding any stock EQ plug-in before or after the preamp to lightly shape your guitar signal before it hits Native. p.s. If you ever do bass tracks, Kush's Reddi preamp plugin is a must.

@Joeleft -- I'd also post your question on the Helix (hardware) page .... lots more readers there and you should get a quicker answer.
-
There are numerous reports of the HX Effects doing this (including mine) on the forums. I hope the Stomp doesn't have the same issue.....
-
The full-blown Eleven-Rack plug-in version (Eleven MK II) costs $499, and doesn't come with the hardware. If you got it bundled for free , that was a really good deal! BTW, If you watch, sometimes Helix Native goes on sale. Maybe Black Friday? Not sure how cheap the sale price usually is, though, I doubt if it would be as low as $99, but you never know.
-
While I agree that HXN is sensitive to driving it too hard at the input, it still seems stable and predictable to me, and no more vulnerable to digital distortion than other plug-ins. Yes, if you drive it too hard, it will distort .... in a bad way. But if you don't (just turn down the input or audio interface gain), it sounds just like the floor unit to me. (Although a cheap audio interface would probably sound a inferior, given the quality of the hardware Helix guitar-specific input circuitry and components.)

I simply add a gain block at the end of my effects chain. Adjust to taste. Works great for me. Or, as others have said, most blocks have a level setting.
