  1. Oh I know. Thankfully, the Helix's filters are very capable. Everybody does indeed hear things differently because I find that even the ribbon mics have plenty of clarity.
  2. Funny. I find most of the cab sims way too bright and buzzy.
  3. I'm wondering if it's intentional to prevent overloading blocks downstream. I still think you should be able to create splits without having to instantiate a block.
  4. Well, there's a lot to be said for getting the tone that works for you, how you play and the style of music you play. There are a lot of times when a big full guitar sound is not the appropriate sound. Also, every modeler has its own innate qualities that may or may not for some. And that's ok.
  5. I've had great success using the Coles ribbon mic model on the Fender Champ cab. Wish I could remember the number of the Coles mic though. 40...something... Anyway, that particular mic model has a ton of low end.
  6. Tape Saturation! http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Tape-Saturation-effect/811809-23508
  7. This reminds me of what a friend of mine had observed - that we buy new gear and try to make it sound like our old gear. It's often true.
  8. Found this on Amazon. Ignore the picture. The measurements are right - I checked with the seller. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003N1900O?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00
  9. Agreed. Good points I hadn't considered. Thanks.
  10. By the way, a global loop return is the crucial part needed for this - especially for the Trio.
  11. I understand all that. However, doesn't instantiating an effect block also take up RAM? The other thing is, isn't memory allocation done in software, thus, firmware?
  12. I do wish the Helix's internal looper had more recording time and wonder if that's something that can be addressed in firmware. If they could make it so that we could choose to sacrifice the use of one effect to increase the recording time in the Global settings. Realistically speaking I don't really use that many effects simultaneously I include some of them in my patches for tonal options... and because, well... they're there. :P
  13. I don't think this has to do with the inconvenience of having to add amps and effects to each patch. It has to do with not having the currently playing loop interrupted when you switch patches. I believe that the Helix's internal looper is global and does not get interrupted when you switch patches. A globally assignable effects return would allow users to use their own loopers that they know and are comfortable using. While I'm sure I could get used the operation of the internal looper, I can't get used to its paltry recording time. I typically record a verse, chorus, verse chorus then a bridge for a loop. Not possible on the Helix.
  14. There isn't one that I know of. I did submit a global effects return idea in Line6 IdeaScale. http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Global-Always-On-Effects-Return/809601-23508
  15. I would be wary of using a real boost pedal in front of the Helix. If it overloads the A/D converter, it'll sound terrible.
  16. Well, I think that goes without saying. I can imagine things like an ADSR controlled chorus's depth or a reverb's decay. Or use the LFO to control those same parameters. I was also imagining a an LFO with a really fast rate, controlling an amp's midrange level or some other control for a bandpass tremolo effect.
  17. Yeah... I'm crazy. I want to turn the Helix into its own type of synthesizer. I want Line 6 to add an LFO and an ADSR to control all kinds of parameters in the Helix http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/An-LFO-and-an-ADSR/811573-23508?submitted=1
  18. So far, no one really knows the status of the editor for Helix outside of Line 6. As with all modelers, there is a slight delay going from patch to patch. I guess I've learned to work around it because it's a total non-issue for me. Ah, actual latency. No, none that I can perceive. Yeah, I don't agree with doing that either. The most I want to do is have two types of sounds in one patch and A/B switch between them. Not that I can tell. One way is to run the output of Path 1 into Path 2. The amp and cab can pretty much go wherever. I'll likely get a lot of push-back on this but I'm of the mindset that it's simply not a good idea to run a modeler, especially one as good as the Helix is, into anything other than a full range system. An amp is just going to, as you put it, mush up the FX and it'll never give the true sound that the Helix is trying to put out. I think that's the Path 1a/1b A/B switching setup. All it does is redirects the signal to either A or B so yeah there's no delay.
  19. Strymon Schmymon. I think the Particle Verb is super cool.
