  1. I'm still hunting for what works for me but then I trying to "force the issue" with the guitar I'm using. It's a custom neck-through semi-hollow and does not naturally sound like a Jazz guitar. I'm picky too and that doesn't help. :P
  2. Keeping my Ethos Ovedrive, Yamaha Magic Stomp, Cry Baby, SP Comp and a Dunlop Volume pedal. Selling a Holdsworth Signature Overdrive, Digitech Polara, Fender Mustang Floor and maybe a Digitech Bad Monkey. I'm vascilating on the Bad Monkey as I actually quite like it.
  3. Well... I rolled the dice. So far, so good. And of all the features that I'm finding useful, it's the input impedance settings that you can now save to each patch. Yes, it's quite subtle but it does change not just the tonality of the guitar but its feel also changes. I love it!! I haven't played around with the Mesa Mark IV much. It sounds good but as I said, I've never been much of a high gain guy so I don't know if I'll ever get to it. I have not even touched the snapshots feature - not sure I need it. Yet.
  4. Ok, thanks jpdennis and HonestOpinion. So that's 2 Windows users. Any Mac users care to respond to my query?
  5. Yes. Hence my post. http://line6.com/support/topic/21773-i-might-do-it-maybe/?do=findComment&comment=164992I'd love to hear of your experience with 2.0 in the following days/weeks of use. Thanks.
  6. So, as I've said before, sonically, I am perfectly happy with my Helix the way it is and only have a very mild curiosity of the new Mesa models and Snapshots feature. What I want to know is, has anyone followed the update instructions TO THE LETTER and still had issues with their Helix?
  7. My sentiments exactly. I think people are too addicted to cheap products. I'm not rich but am more than happy to pay the price for the Helix's sound and its equally important feel. I have my issues with the Helix and none of them has to do with its sound. After the tweaks I've done on mine, the only thing I periodically change are the preset levels. I'm so content with the sound I'm getting that I now have the luxury of just concentrating on my playing on stage. I'm still running it with firmware that's two versions behind this latest one and have no real desire or need to make any changes to any of my presets. It works so well for me that I am really super hesitant to upgrade its firmware. If Line 6 ever releases firmware that includes a global effects return that is unaffected by preset changes, I'm all in for that.
  8. Yup. I also read on a different thread that a user noticed that it made his patches a little brighter. I certainly don't need that.
  9. I think I'll wait for 2.01
  10. Hang on now, there's a difference between 'not in use' and bypassed. Especially with a looper. You don't bypass a looper, you either pause the playback or record a new loop but the effects loop it's connected to stays active. So, if you've put it at the end of a stereo signal chain but the looper is mono, it should (as it would in the non-virtual world) sum the signal to mono. That is unless the Helix is only using one of the stereo signal's channels to go to the send and then back from the FX return and letting the other channel go through uninterrupted... but I don't think so.
  11. Good thing I don't have much use for most high gain sounds. There are some that I use but none are of the scooped ilk. Surprisingly, the only sound I'm not truly happy with, yet, is a jazz sound - on either the Mustang or the Helix.
  12. Yeah, they're close but it would seem that nobody does Fender like Fender. Could you imagine how embarrassing it would be if they, Fender, didn't get that right?! lol
  13. Totally agree. This is the approach I've alway taken with modelers and have never expected them to be just like an amp. I expect them to be like a mic'd amp in the studio.
  14. Why in the world would someone NOT want independent preamp and power amp blocks? Someone just downvoted it. Seriously?! Some people have no imagination.
  15. I still think it could fit better. When the foam compresses, it offers less protection - you want uncompressed foam to absorb the shock. Glad I went with my choice as it offers really good but lightweight protection. Sadly though, they've doubled the price!!! Maybe they realized that a lot of Helix owners will really like this case. http://www.amazon.com/Gator-Inches-Lightweight-Mixer-G-MIX-L/dp/B003N1900O?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 P.S. Ignore the picture. It's the wrong picture for the product.
  16. The Mustangs are a bit of a conundrum. They sound really excellent for the price but are so hamstrung by their feature set and functionality that you really have to have very basic needs as a player. As you say it has lots of tonal options but very poor controllability. I gigged with a Mustang floor which sounds great by itself. It's $200 price tag though, keeps it from being "all that it could be". Its fixed effects loop (pre) is infuriating when you're trying to use a looper. I can't seem to bring myself to get rid of it though because, while it's no Helix, I still prefer its sound to all the other modelers I've owned. And I've owned quite a few.
  17. This would not be an issue if you could assign one of the FX returns as a Global return. One that would not be affected and continue to pass an incoming signal uninterrupted when switching presets - the way the internal looper does. Alas, that is simply not the case. Very frustrating and limiting.

    Helix vs AX-8

Bias. The simple fact of the matter is, everyone has a bias. That word has a synonym - preference. That said, I don't believe that any one current modeler in the same price range as the Helix is measurably that much more sonically superior that it would render the Helix shelf worthy. No way, no how.
  19. What exactly are you hoping for?
  20. I've considered doing just that but during initial patch creation it comes in pretty handy. After that though, this feature seems a bit accident prone.
  21. Indeed. I did the 36 month deal in March and am down to the last $500 to pay off. Woohoo!
  22. Hmmm, for me, it depends on the type of pick noise. Really hard picks make a noise just when they touch the string - it's really just a high pitched note as the pick surface is acting like a fret. The other noise is the scraping noise as the pick moves across the string. I kind of like this noise and use it as part of my playing.
  23. 200 amp models? Meh. After a while you can have too many choices. I don't really want the Helix to become as bewildering as Costco for amp sims.
  24. Well then, KUDOS, DL! I realize that it was a long time ago but there were three things that were deal breakers for me in the XTLive. Feel, the compressors and lastly the EQ. The Helix has the feel and EQ departments down but I think the compressors aren't quite there yet. It's a character thing for me. They still sound a little too "studio" and don't quite sound like a guitar compressor for my liking. I know. I'm just being picky.
