  1. Note also that the looper has no concept of timing or tempo. The recording begins the instant you tap the RECORD footswitch, not when you start playing. And it stops recording when you tap the footswitch again, not when you stop playing. In other words, you get either 24 or 48 seconds maximum recording unless you stop the recording manually before that. There's no way you should have a limit of 15 seconds unless you started playing 9 seconds after you started recording (silence).
  2. So apart from saying they usually go bad early, he didn't actually answer your question, right? I would call again and tell them you need to pursue this. You want to know with certainty whether or not your specific amp is covered under warranty for a no-cost repair, even if it is not currently exhibiting symptoms. Push for an answer. If the answer is yes then take it in for your free repair. If the answer is no then you can be confident that you won't experience the problem, and life goes on.....
  3. Did Line 6 support say this? Their usual policy, once a problem has been acknowledged with a TSB, is to ask the user to take the device to any authorized service center (regardless of the device's ownership history) and have the TSB applied at no cost to the current owner. I think the situation described by Marcus2323 is normal. You should be able to take it in and have it fixed even if you are not currently showing symptoms. I would ask Line 6 again if they told you you have no support. If you encounter resistance, point them to this thread and suggest they treat you like they are treating Marcus.
  4. Nick Mattocks was a very active and respected contributor in this forum for several years until his untimely death a few years ago. He was among our Line 6 Expert User colleagues and is remembered with much admiration by any forum member who has been around for a few years. I do recall the Setlist that the OP refers to. It was posted shortly after the Hd500 was first released. I don't know if it is still available in the forum archives.
  5. @ amsdenj Depends on the JTV firmware. Initially there was no difference in the modeling; JTV was a much better build quality with the alt tuning at-a-touch feature as well as mag pickups. Still, some people seemed able to distinguish a difference in the sounds, probably attributable to the different body and neck of the guitars as well as upgraded piezos. But the underlying modeling did not change at first. With JTV firmware 1.8 the acoustic models changed. The guitars modeled remained the same (I think) but the modeling technology was upgraded to HD and the Tone knob as a mic position adjustment had much more effect. Some people prefer the pre-1.8 acoustic models. JTV firmware 2 included HD modeling for all other models, and changed the underlying guitars being modeled in several banks. Especially noticeable was the Spank bank. Again, some people prefer the older models. Because there's so much subjectivity involved, as well as familiarity with the sound of the previous models, there is no correct answer to the question 'Which is better?'. There are technical differences; the newer models have more data sampling behind them. That doesn't necessarily make them sound 'better' if you are used to the sound of the previous models.
  6. There are situations where the edit program memory and the device memory get out of sync, leading to symptoms such as you describe. These situations are hard to pin down to the Edit program software because they often occur randomly and only seem to affect some users - not all. It seems to relate to the user's computer environment, especially the reliability of the usb connection. If you find a procedure that works reliably for you and does not result in the loss of sync/data, use that procedure all the time. There's not likely to be a new release of the editor program designed to 'fix' something that doesn't exist for everyone, and can't be properly diagnosed and debugged.
  7. Do you have the Edit program running when this happens? If so, try to avoid touching the buttons and switches on the Pod Hd device while Edit is running. Make all your changes in Edit and then SEND the presets to the pod device. Disconnect the usb and quit Edit immediately after SENDing. You should then be able to use the device and find all changes properly stored.
  8. Sorry I didn't get back to you on this sooner. I know I was tweaking every parameter that Workbench has to offer. As far as I can remember the most important parameters in shaping the sound were: - guitar body and pickup selection. These are pretty easy if you're trying to match something real as I was. (Les Paul Deluxe - LP body with mini-humbuckers) - pickup position; not angle so much - pickup phase - tone knob pot resistance and especially capacitance That covers most of the available controls and parameters, so it's probably not much help. Just do a lot of experimenting with everything available.
  9. Glad you're up and running with it. While a standard Ethernet cable works you should not use it long term. The issue is with the connection at the guitar. A standard cable does not provide extra protection and security where the connector is. If this connector jiggles around or is jarred at the connection point it can damage the connection pins inside the guitar causing not only loss of connection but also an expensive repair to the guitar jack. You should obtain a replacement for the cable that came with the guitar. It should have some sort of extra protection at the end of the cable to ensure a more stable and secure connection.
  10. The cable that connects the guitar to the hardware interface is a standard Ethernet cable, although yours may have a round protective housing at one end. For testing you could use any standard Ethernet cable. Also, make sure you try using other USB ports on your computer and avoid using any usb hubs. Have you run Line 6 Monkey? Does it give any hints? Does the guitar work normally otherwise?
  11. I am not sure exactly what pieces of equipment you are using and how they are connected, but there are a couple of points that are often overlooked: Make sure you are using either the Workbench hardware interface device (or a VDI equipped Pod HD device) properly connected to your JTV and to your computer running the Workbench software. If you are using the Workbench hardware interface device make sure your JTV battery is fully charged and that you have a 1/4" standard guitar cable connected to the JTV .
  12. I think the risk that you will brick your JTV during v1.9 installation is extremely small. You are likely more at risk of personal injury by leaving your house today - especially if you plan to get in a car.
  13. That's correct. They are essentially two mono signals going into your DAW and from there you can pan them as desired in the overall mix. And within the HD500x processing it's best to avoid stereo FX since the signal in each path will be mono on exit from the HD500x.
  14. Here's a preset that you can start experimenting with. http://line6.com/customtone/tone/215659/ The preset structure keeps the signal paths completely separate, and pans them fully at output so your DAW can record both processed signals on separate tracks. Keep the structure the same and replace/relocate amp/FX in each path as desired.
  15. Thanks for following up on this, phil_m. Looks like Line 6 is now shipping a new (and, imho, inferior) cable. Sorry for my misinformation peewee678.
  16. Where did you buy the guitars? Go back to them and get the right cable. It is shielded at one end and standard at the other.
  17. Now I'm confused. The cable that comes with the guitar (the one you should be using) is not a standard ethernet cable. It DOES have the round shield at one end, to connect to the guitar. You should not be having the problem you describe when your guitar is on the stand.
  18. It's not a design flaw; you bought the wrong cable. The VDI cable is intended to connect your Variax to a compatible Pod device (e.g. Pod HD500X). It is not intended to connect to the Workbench hardware interface. Your JTV should have come with the right cable, with the shield at one end (to connect the JTV) and a standard unshielded RJ-45 connector at the other end (to connect to the hardware interface). If you do not have this cable you should contact whoever sold you the guitar and obtain it.
  19. Try this patch setup for the wet/dry signal recording using just the HD500X via USB to your DAW. http://line6.com/customtone/tone/217206/
  20. In future, while you are making a list of patches you like it would be wise to also copy the individual patches to your computer. That way you will always be able to reload them in a situation like this. At this point, you won't easily be able to get it back. I can see at least two possibilities that explain why the patch was there previously and isn't now: - it may have been part of the factory presets in an earlier firmware release and has now been replaced in the factory presets. In that case you can recover it by identifying the earlier firmware version and reinstalling it. Before doing so, of course, make a copy of the existing setlists in your POD because when reinstalling the older firmware you will want to overwrite the current presets. - you may have purchased a used POD and the original factory presets may have been overwritten with user presets, one of which was named Choir. In that case you would need to contact the previous owner to see if he/she still has a copy.
  21. DarrelM5 and duncann, that's been my experience too. That's why I believe loss of sync problems have more to do with the user's computer environment than buggy Edit software. Certainly makes it difficult for Line 6 to reproduce and resolve any software issues that might exist.
  22. Exactly. I made a point of saying that during this test you should avoid touching the device itself. That's because there is known to be a general problem with keeping the Edit program and the device in sync when both are being used to operate the device simultaneously. This manifests itself in many and random situations, not only in the SEND/SAVE presets case that is the subject of this thread. And I suspect that a lot of this has to do with the user's PC environment so different users experience this a great deal and others not at all. What I was trying to do was investigate whether there is a particular bug in the Edit software that might have existed independent of the general loss of synchronicity bug. It's no surprise, nor a new bug, to find another situation like this one where problems are manifest when using both the Edit program and the device together. By removing this factor from the test we seem to have eliminated the existence of a new, specific bug. That was the goal. Again,as a general rule, avoid touching the device when using the Edit program. If you want/need to use both together then you need to develop a workaround, as you have done, to minimize any impact of the loss of synchronicity that you may experience.
  23. Tboneus - I haven't tried the comparisons you asked me to make, and I don't think the results would be objective. I have a JTV-59 and a 1970's vintage Les Paul Deluxe. At various times in the past few years I have routinely played the JTV using mag pickups as well as the Lester model and the Les Paul, all using the same patches on a Pod HD500 and HD Pro. While they are all slightly different in tone they are also all remarkably similar. I never noticed anything with the Lester models that was microphonic or hollow as you describe it. I do recall that at one time (before the JTV was released) I used Workbench with a Variax 300 to try to reproduce the sound of my LP Deluxe because that's not one of the Variax models. I used the mini-humbucker pickups available in Workbench, which is what my LP has. With some tweaking I was able to produce a model that sounded so close that I was unable to distinguish the Variax from the LP. I could fool myself into thinking each one was the other. That's what I'm afraid I would do here if I actually did the comparison you ask for. The fact that I haven't noticed what you describe in the last several years suggests to me that I would be fooling myself if I now reported that I heard something new and different. Or maybe my old ears just aren't that good anymore.......
