What are your requirements? How do you plan to use it? Budget? Max. loop duration? Overdubbing? Need stored loops? How many? Midi control? ... etc ....... Maybe do some basic product research to identify a few qualifying candidates, then request opinions on the best of those?

Poor Audio Recordings With My Line 6 Pod Ux1
silverhead replied to sidguitarrist's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
Are you saying that it sounds better to you when listened to live? I'm not a metal fan so I'm not a good judge of whether this recording sounds good or bad. Sorry I can't help - perhaps someone with a good ear for metal can assess the sound quality. Offhand I don't see anything obviously wrong with your setup; on the other hand my knowledge in this area is general - I own and use several audio interfaces and DAWs, but not the UX1 or Cubase. Good luck working things out. -
Note that Variax models created in pre-HD firmware/Workbench are not compatible with the new HD firmware/Workbench. Your previous custom models will need to be recreated in Workbench HD.

As long as the deal is so good that you are prepared to kiss the $$ goodbye.... go for it! ;)

The Pod HD (desktop/bean model) is the same physical size as the Pod xt and Pod X3 bean models. All use the same physical chassis.

I know this may seem a bit simplistic, but as I understand things the POD HD Full amp models are generally used in Studio output mode, and the Pre amp models give best results when used in one of the Live output modes. As I understand it the essential difference in Full and Pre amp models is that the Pre amp models do not include any power amp emulation while the Full amp models do. Hence, using a Full amp model with a Live output mode necessarily adds power amp emulation, which then is routed into a real power amp. Here's a snip from the Pod HD500 Advanced Guide on this point: TIP: When using the Combo or Stack options and connecting into a tube amplifier, we also recommend that you choose a Preamp Model from the Amp Model menu (rather than one of the “Full†Amp Models). HD Preamp Models include no power amp emulation, making them typically better suited for this connection. That said, there is no wrong choice! PODs have always been about flexibility... Check out all the possibilities and decide which Models work best for your tone!

You could try turning down the Master volume in the amp Edit pages (not the HD channel volume or device master volume).

Poor Audio Recordings With My Line 6 Pod Ux1
silverhead replied to sidguitarrist's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
Can you be more specific about what you are doing, and how you have things set up? Provide as much detail as you can.Can you post a sample of the recording? Perhaps screenshots of Pod Farm/Cubase that you think may illustrate the problem? Are you able to adjust the input volume for the track when recording in Cubase? It's very difficult to provide hints and suggestions when you say you've already done everything, and that 'things still sound bad'. -
What device is your backing track playing on?

Poor Audio Recordings With My Line 6 Pod Ux1

Are you following the information in the Pod Farm recording setup guide? http://line6.com/data/6/0a060b316ac34f0593ccf3e0a/application/pdf/POD%20Farm%202%20Recording%20Setup%20Guide%20%20-%20English%20%28%20Rev%20A%20%29.pdf ... especially the Cubase Setup on page 6-62..... -
You're lucky - it could easily have fried your device.

Check the Min/Max levels of the VOL/EXP1 pedal. Perhaps different settings could cause this behaviour?

Buy an external looper if you plan to use it for live play. The POD looper is useful for laying down a backing track to practice solos (POST mode), and for auditioning and tweaking tones easily (PRE mode). It is not easy to use during a live performance.

Old posts won't be updated, and the existence of 'erroneous' posts shouldn't be disappointing. For one thing, they may not have been erroneous at the time - product features and behaviour changes with each new firmware release. Also, it is a user forum; users (myself included) are sometimes just plain wrong. It would be a really unworkable forum if Line 6 needed to hire and fully train as many administrators as would be required to ensure that no false information was ever posted, and to maintain the full archive of historic posts to remain accurate. Can you imagine the resources required to do that?

When logged in to these forums, and from within the forum, you can start a new post (as you've just done) or reply to any posts you see. The Search function in these forums can certainly use some improvement, but it's useable. The most important thing to note about using google to search the forums is that it will show you all historical and archived posts. Most of these are old and outdated, meaning the post is no longer active to be replied to, or the topic under discussion is no longer relevant. For instance, the Line 6 user forums underwent a complete overhaul several months ago. Posts older than that are inactive and can't be replied to by anyone, although they may contain useful historical information on a read-only basis. Perhaps that's what google is showing you. If you log in here, and do your forum work within here rather than from google, it should work OK for you.

How Do I Monitor Sound Through Workbench?
silverhead replied to CBTL's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Do not connect your HD500 to your computer via usb (e.g. do not run both HD500 Edit and Workbench at the same time). Connect your Variax to the computer running Workbench using the Workbench hardware interface. Connect the 1/4" output of your Variax to the HD500 Guitar Input (or use VDI/Varaix Input) and monitor the sound using the HD500 audio outputs. This setup should work. -

There's also an iOS app for editing the DT series of Line 6 amps. It, too, works with the MIDI Mobilizer. -
My Jtv Hd 2.0 Experience/ Ordeal
silverhead replied to johnnyayyy's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
In the interests of providing a balanced view showing all different experiences, I can say that my upgrade to v2.0 was completely uneventful. Successful upgrade on first attempt, and the firmware delivers far superior tones across the board, including Spank models, imho. YMMV, but I think it's important to note that relatively few users have reported update issues. Of course I support them in expressing their frustration, but imho the casual reader should not conclude that the update is seriously flawed. -
I would recommend against using ASIO4ALL, the default device interface driver with Audacity. While it works for some, it is not a true ASIO compliant application and has been known to cause issues when used with Line 6 devices. If using Audacity, make sure to change the device driver to the Line 6 ASIO driver. I recommend you also look into Reaper as the recording program. It has a free fully-functional trial period and then is approximately $60 for license.
