The easiest way to start (in this case) is to read the Pod HD Pro X Manual's MIDI implementation. https://line6.com/data/6/0a06434c12b265244d498852b5/application/pdf/POD HD Pro X Advanced Guide - English ( Rev A ).pdf Page C•2 These are the CC #'s you need to target for the appropriate change. On the Boss side of things, this looks a little more daunting...... https://static.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/GT-10_MI.pdf Page 2 - #2 Transmitted Data (Main Section) says: "If you....program change ...is transmitted" (sorry that copies and pastes as '2D:@>1?@;->D>?18;-=-81?1=G&,&' !( &''! #/"@?H2:=G"9H;=:3=-8/4-931592:=8-?5:95>?=-9>85??10B419>B5?/4593;-?/4' It's a rough manual. You've got to figure out how to get the Boss to send what the POD HD Pro X is asking for. It looks like Program Changes are transmitted once you turn MIDI on, so that's a start. Targeting individual foot switches is where you need to dig deeper. The Pod is already set up other than maybe a specific channel but it's listening to all channels by default (I think).

interesting......I'm not sure the solution from there.

Do a search through the forum. You have to go to Security and allow Line 6 as a developer.

I assume most people use speakers to hear the sound not headphones. But yeah I hadn't thought of the guitar cable length. I play wirelessly.
-
yeah I sort of take it the opposite way. With the wah in the early part of the chain, you're actually always distorting the wah.

This thread is a classic. Glad it came around again with updates. Thanks pfsmith0. Your work in 2013 was the only info I trusted when deciding to purchase the 500 and eventually the 500X. I just wanted to say thanks.

Trying to run an electric cello through 500x, bad tone?stormstudios replied to slikchik's topic in POD HD That's fair on the input settings. Hurghanico definitely knows more about it than I.

Step 1: Decide whether you want the Stereo Keyboard/Synth or the MIDI Controller first. Are you intending to buy a keyboard that makes its own sounds or a controller that is going to send MIDI notes to the DAW where the sound generation will come from the internal / plug-in synths? If Stereo Keyboard/Synth, then yes you can use the AUX input and you'll have to set the POD to have Input 1 Source as Guitar and Input 2 Source as AUX. Then you'll have Path A and Path B doing different things or whatever you want there. For the connection, the keyboard will probably have a 1/4" output L&R. You'd need a 1/4" TS (Mono) to 1/8" TRS (Stereo) Y-Cable. Start picking some suitable keyboards and check the outputs on the back. AUX In will not matter because you want to audio OUT of the keyboard and IN to the Pod. example cable: https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Splitter-Computer-Multimedia-Speakers/dp/B00ZKM3S4S?psc=1&SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag=duc12-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B00ZKM3S4S If MIDI Controller, then your sounds are going to come from the instruments in your DAW and the Pod is simply going to be your audio interface and you have to set the output of your DAW to use the Pod as its interface. You'll hear the instrument through USB coming out of the outputs of the Pod. You won't be connecting the controller to the POD at all. So, make your decision first on where you want your sounds to come from.

Trying to run an electric cello through 500x, bad tone?stormstudios replied to slikchik's topic in POD HD Congrats on the gift! Sounds like the perfect combo for the next stage of your career. Are you navigating through presets or are trying to build from scratch? I am hoping / assuming / presuming here that you're building from scratch because none of the presets are going to help your sounds...they're not set up for a smooth attack string instrument. Guitars have a hard attack with a more defined transient, so start with a blank tone and build from there. Have you read the manual for the 500X? Start with the Pilot's Guide, then Advanced Guide, then Edit Pilot's Guide. https://line6.com/support/manuals/podhd500x/ To start, I recommend setting Input 1 Source to Guitar and Input 2 Source to AUX or Variax and not have it be set to 'Same.' I would start with a transparent (as close to transparent) effect at the start to get some good levels. I like the Vintage Pre or 'Gain' setting of the Studio EQ treating it like Input Trim on a mixer. You'll have to test the level with some other audio source for comparison to ensure you're not getting too hot of a signal or, worse, not enough. (Sorry I know absolutely nothing about electric cello electronics). You could then try the cleanest amp like the Blackface Dbl Nrm and see if you get anything you like sound-wise. If this gets you started then you can start experimenting with some of the FX but my guess is you're going to have to diagnose how the Pod reacts to the electric cellos signal levels before too much experimenting with the FX. (I hope this helps. I am not a technical person and they will also be along to help I'm sure. But the basics of sonic creation is always going to be from having a good source to start from and your cello's pickups and electrical signal are going to be the key to not making this a frustrating experience. If you've got low signal and start adding FX it's going to just be noise.)

This needs some clarification. I'm assuming based on your post that you understand Page B•5 completely: https://line6.com/data/6/0a06434c6fb051e03e8ab63dc/application/pdf/POD HD500X Advanced Guide - English ( Rev A ).pdf What footswitch mode are you in? ABCD or FS5-FS8? Page 2•2 Page 3•9 and 3•10 have the rest of the info you need. "If a footswitch already has an FX or Amp block assigned: The existing Block remains assigned, and selecting this footswitch additionally assigns your new Block. When referencing the Performance View, you’ll see the footswitch display a “Multi” graphic to indicate this. You can configure 2 or more parameters to the same footswitch to toggle them On/Off simultaneously - or, have one toggle On while another Toggles Off!" If this is not working as described then you need to contact Line 6.

Delay on Main Outsstormstudios replied to Normen1's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers I accessed my stagescape today and I misinformed. None of the DSP preset chains have FX available. So, no I don't think it's possible.

Delay on Main Outsstormstudios replied to Normen1's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers I'm not at my board today, but I think you select the Main Out, go to Deep Tweak to see the Global FX (I think), add a delay to one of the FX channels. I'll look tomorrow. The manual isn't very clear on this one either. If I find a manual reference I'll update this post. Search some old threads too in the meantime I know there's been 'FX on Output' type of threads. The key is to select the main and set up the DSP chain on that.
-
What OS are you on? Have you read any of the threads dealing with the Security Preferences on Mac's now? It looks like Line 6 is showing up as an untrusted developer so you have to allow the drivers in the System Preferences / Security if you're on a newer Mac OS.

This whole post was a very good explanation by codamedia on the approach. I just wanted to add that this is the way I did it when I originally set up my HD500X. The only difference was my amp was a Fender Twin '65 R. I had to use the Studio EQ at the front with a gain level of +12 to match them up with the Master 'all the way to 11!' So, if you've got the master all the way up and you don't hit the right level, this is another option. Follow codamedia's advice on this one....it's spot-on the best approach to this for the way you're using it.

There is a reason not everyone does this. It takes a lot of knowledge to understand all this and one thread in a forum is not going to be enough for you to jump right in and be show ready. You'll have to choose the software (I am only recommending Live) and once you choose you'll have to read what MIDI commands the software responds to. In the case of Live, you have to understand how to map the MIDI commands you are sending from the Pod to Live's functions. (You'll also have to fully understand how to be in complete control of the MIDI commands the Pod sends out from the foot switches.) In the case of Live, you 'map' a MIDI command to something in the software. You'll need a footswitch that can go to the 'Next Track' and one for 'Prev Track' and one for 'Play'. Stop you'll rarely do unless you mess something up in the physical world at the start of a track. You first have to decide: 1. Does the software do what I am asking it to do? (your questions above) 2. Is there a way to get MIDI to tell it to do that? (reading the sending devices MIDI implementation and the receiving software's MIDI implementation) I've also worked with some shows in Vegas that use Logic but everything is in one long continuous track with start and stop cue points. You cannot in that case skip around from song to song on a whim. Live will let you do that but you won't have enough footswitches except to go Next and Previous in Live's session view. Send MIDI Out to your MIDI Interface's In. Set up Sessions in Ableton Live. I like that Live lets you type the tempo into each row and it responds. "Brian, quit messing around with the colors!"

Automating effects toggle for Pod HD500 through Cubase help neededstormstudios replied to Cronke's topic in POD HD Blank is ok. MIDI Assign is when you want the footswitch to send a MIDI signal out to another device and won't matter for your purposes.. What effect in your chain is being turned on and off by FS1?

Automating effects toggle for Pod HD500 through Cubase help neededstormstudios replied to Cronke's topic in POD HD It's been forever since I used Cubase for anything, so I'm no help there. But if you refer to the Pod HD500 manual, on page B•2 the footswitches are MIDI CC# 51 to 59. That's the only thing the Pod is going to listen for with individual effects slots. You'll have to assign the footswitch to the effect, then target that footswitch MIDI CC.

Lots of good advice here, so try the various solutions provided above. I use a Twin Reverb 65 Reissue. it has always been my amp and my sound since I started. Over the years I've used pedal boards, Zoom devices, Eleven Rack with a Pod HD Pro, etc. But I needed a rig I could travel with too, so...voila...the HD500X. I thought I'd share my perspective as well. Your best bet will always be a full range flat response system with the 500X. However, to best utilize the amp, I create all my patches for new songs with the Pre-Amp model of the Twin Reverb and dial in all the effects coming out of the actual TR amp. Then I save the patch and add the amp/cab sim of the TR into the chain and have a direct / alternate version I can use when I travel. I got pretty good at understanding how the TR sim can be dialed in to match my real amp in a real space. You could also try that as a solution. I't a shame to leave such a gorgeous sounding amp behind.

With the basic approach of above with Path A and Path B splits, you could output to the Phones jack and hear the PA aux in your right ear and your guitar in your left. If you put a dummy plug in the 1/4" RIGHT output jack you will stop the 1/4" summing issue and the 1/4" LEFT output will just be guitar. It's really going to have to be a lot of finicky tweaking to figure out and then, ashurghanico said, add it to every patch. Here's a couple videos that might help (I just did a quick search but have seen the Helix one before)

Are you on a Mac or PC? What OS version? If Mac, there are some threads floating around that have to do with allowing the drivers to actually install. The installer says 'Success' but you have to go into the Security preferences and open up to allow Line 6 as a developer to actually install them. After allowing, then it actually installs. If you're PC-based, no idea and someone else will be along shortly.

Are you 1000% sure you downloaded the right 'Edit' software? I have a Pod HD 500X and an HD Pod Pro and I get them confused all the time when trying to install and even sometimes use.
