  1. In your setup, because you're only using effects on the Pod, there is no reason why you can't have an Ernie Ball volume pedal between the fx and the amp. The one thing I've learned in all these years of playing is this.....try it...if it works it isn't wrong. Try all your theories and then see which one works for you.
  2. There is no elegant, easy way. The device is more of a MIDI sender versus a control center for a show. What you can do is set up Ableton to send the foot switch tap command over a bar or two. Page 113 of the Advanced Manual states MIDI CC# 64 can be sent with a value of 127 to simulate the tap. Send 3 or 4 'taps' from Ableton. I don't do this myself because I write in the delay times and I have a different patch for every song, but here's a thread from a guy who utilizes this method.
  3. Yes, on some signal paths it works really well and others it really becomes foggy. Definitely try it. There's no wrong way if you can get the sound. I have found drive settings under 18% become difficult to control based on my pick ups in the various guitars. Other then that, nothing wrong with trying.
  4. You can only have 2 expression pedals, but you can assign those pedals to any effect block to do multiple things. So, if you're sending MIDI from your controller, you have to assign the MIDI to EXP-1 or EXP-2. From inside the ProX, you can assign those controls to anything you want. So, in essence yours is a Yes/No answer to your question. You'll have to dig deeper into the manual and create various patches that do what you want it to do.
  5. The drag and drop doesn't work for everyone, hence why alternative suggestions are brought forward as well. Fair point if drag and drop works for DJK. On Mac 10.9.5, my HD Pro files do not work in the 500X editor with drag and drop. I get an error of 'Invalid data....' so I try to suggest options that everyone can use for sure. Together we can save the world.
  6. If you learn every setting inside that unit, then yes you can achieve almost any guitar sound. However, you'd be amazed how difficult some of them can be. It requires a lot of patience. For example, even Bias and Hum settings on the amp sims make a huge difference. Everything is going to have to be based around your specific guitar and pickups, so it's always best to make your own patches and not rely on someone else's. There is an unofficial converter for files, so you could download a HD500 patch and convert it to load in the HD500X editor to examine the path. https://www.jzab.de/content/pod-hd Or you can do what others do and download the HD500 editor and load the patches you find there to view them and then manually replicate the path in the 500X editor.
  7. Make sure you've got both manuals handy for reference. Then refer to them on how to 'talk' to the H&K. From the HD500X, you need to run a MIDI cable from MIDI OUT to the MIDI IN on the H&K. Then you'll have to create a patch that will store the footswitch MIDI assignments. Once you've selected the patch, you hold down the MOVE button and you'll get your MIDI CC assign functions. After that, all the rest of the information is going to come from the H&K manual for what MIDI info it is listening for.
  8. Your assumptions are correct. It's got some digital artifacts that at 100% mix won't sound like a perfect transposition because it's replicating an effect pedal (the Digitech Whammy) so let us know how it goes for you. It's a better effect as a blend.
  9. I still like the Stagescape and thought about getting a backup unit. We don't use it exclusively but when we play smaller venues or outdoor venues where we supply the PA, this thing is invaluable. Your list, based on your research, still make it an attractive unit. As silverhead mentioned, it does not function as an audio interface for your DAW but you can get good recordings and bounce them to your DAW later for editing / mixing. The backtracks are simple with the media player but you cannot record to the media card at the same time, so there's a limitation there as well. I wish it was still being updated and dislike Yamaha's approach here, but for those of us who have them, we recognize it is a powerful unit in a very compact package. Even comparing it to the TF1, I like that the M20D can be in my personal rack and have a very quick set up when needed. I see no reason why it can't still be a mixer for 2018 - 2020. I'm still learning things deep inside this unit.
  10. It just seems to be a thing. It is the same for my set up with both my HD500X and my HD500 Pro. Your choice is do it on the device and save it or set your delay times in milliseconds (my preferred approach).
  11. if you plug a dummy adaptor into the 1/4" right output, you can avoid the summing.....sometimes verrrrrrrrry useful
  12. ...you have to scroll down to this section...... POD HD500/500x/HD/HD Pro: You must re-install the flash memory on the HD device to reset the unit back to factory settings. Check out this link for instructions POD HD500 Factory Reset Video Tutorial ------- Are you listening through headphones? ...XLR out to powered monitors / FRFR speakers? ....1/4" out to an amp? ....XLR out to a different interface? .....into a DAW and monitoring through the device? or vice versa....into a DAW and using software monitoring? ...this might make a difference as well. Thanks for all the info. I thought you were SPDIF into another interface. So confusing... lol I see hurgh and I were typing at the same time.....
  13. You're going to have to explain your complete signal chain for people to propose any solutions on such a unique situation. It's probably more of a physical routing situation than anything else.
  14. Great thread. I enjoyed hearing your story. That's great.
  15. no, just to your regular Guitar IN on the 500.........VL3 Guitar THRU ---> HD500 Guitar IN
  16. I'll take a stab at it but it does rely on what you are intending to get out of it. I don't have the VoiceLive 3 but I read the manual to figure some options out. But like anything you can always break the rules and be creative too! Keep the 500 for your guitar effects. Easiest Plug in your guitar in Guitar IN. This will allow the chord sensing to occur. Run a regular guitar cable from Guitar THRU to your HD500. This technically is an output and it's misleading that they have it under inputs but seemed like an easy engineering answer to have them close. Run a MIDI cable from the VoiceLive 3 MIDI OUT to the MIDI IN on the 500 so when you change patches on the VoiceLive3 it changes the 500 for you. Learn your MIDI commands. - you can skip above if you wish to foot switch each device independently...the above was just for making your life easier. Then you should be able to use your VoiceLive 3 VOICE outputs for your voice and the 500 outputs for your guitar to the house. --- Give that a go for a simple use case. Then as you get more comfortable with it you can expand and maybe eventually move all your guitar sounds into the VoiceLive 3. Keep in mind you'd lose some effects. But for an acoustic duo it shouldn't matter that much. As someone who re-programs guitar sounds into multiple devices a LOT (read: TOO MUCH) its hard to get a new device sounding exactly good without a lot of tweaking. So, use the 500 this way until you get comfortable with the VoiceLive's guitar effects. But over time you'll find the VoiceLive 3 will make your set up easier at your gigs and make the soundperson (or yourself) happier with all the outputs coming from one small device. Hope that helps.

    Mart1970!

That is its intention. Do it! (then also read the manual for the finer points of how it all works ideally....some good tips in there)
  18. some times applications can cause some issues when utilizing the drivers switching between sample rates.....not saying this is your issue but putting it out there...... If your default setting on the 500X is 48kHz, some apps can stream through the driver at that sample rate but others default to 44.1. The constant switching by the driver between the sample rates causes the word clock to drift in the OS especially if two apps are using the sound card at the same time. I have seen this in the past on Windows (Im on Mac now so its been awhile) and I don't know if this is stilllllll a problem. But this was a problem in the past. Is there one application you can trace the 'first glitch' back to consistently? Also, have you disabled all default Windows sounds? Sorry for what might be bad advice / thoughts. My information is dated for sure on Windows devices. It just sounded like you were having a frustrating time so I thought I'd put everything on the table for you.
  19. then simply add it in the Deep Tweak area of the individual channel. Then monitor the channel in POST not PRE.
  20. Deep Tweak on the individual channel. It sounds like you're adding the FX on the monitor bus. Are you wanting an effect ONLY on the monitor channel that is NOT going out to the house?
  21. another supporter of the BX8s right here For your purposes, I checked out the ones you noted above. I would probably choose the Mackie CR4 over the Edifier. I would not go the passive route. One thing I'd look for so you aren't upgrading later is having powered speakers with XLR inputs so you can go direct to the speakers / monitors through a balanced connection. Youc an do the XLR to 1/4" cable but what I like about the BX8s is XLR to XLR and I can still use the unbalanced 1/4" output to the amp if I want and switch between Line level and Amp level. Let us know what you end up choosing!
  22. For my set up, the rack unit allowed me more flexibility in 'building the show'. There are times I need to fly in for a gig and the 500X is my choice there, but ultimately the Pro is my go-to unit with a Ground Control Pro. Sound-wise, as the others have mentioned, makes very little difference. Would I say it was worth the extra money? No, but is really up to you. The 500X is a beast and travels nicely but rack mounting the Pro is soooo nice.
  23. I can also confirm this works for what you want to do. Dummy adaptor plug for the win.
  24. did you somehow install an older version of Edit, like from a backup somewhere, and forget to update it to the latest? This does sound like a PC issue, not a Pod issue.
