Serial number should be on the back panel label. Also, this is a page in the Spider Jam category, you might want to use the Spider V category.

UNACCEPTABLE! DT25 NIGHTMARE! Power Transformer
psarkissian replied to maxwalmsley's topic in DT50 / DT25
"... does this mean the DT25 is being phased out? " --- Not that I'm aware of. Some items were moved to the Legacy list recently and DT25 was not among them. Check with Mark Wright then. -
UNACCEPTABLE! DT25 NIGHTMARE! Power Transformer
psarkissian replied to maxwalmsley's topic in DT50 / DT25
Check with (phone or email) E&M Electronics in Milton Keynes near Bletchley (about 90 mile south on the M1), or my friend Mark Wright at Mark Wright Music in Northampton (about 70 miles south of you on the M1),... see if they can source one. I just checked with Support here, apparently, what ever parts might still be out there is what's left, whoever might have one on the shelf. Mark used to be a tech at Line 6 Rugby, back when we had a location there. -
Is standard tuning (EADGBE) required?
psarkissian replied to teletorben's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
"... works best when in standard A=440Hz tuning. " --- Yes. But you can physically tune down a whole step and a half before you start having pitch tracking issues. A combination of string to piezo tension, and processing. Best bet, is to physically tune to standard tuning and use Workbench HD to augment or custom Alt Tune. -

When were the tubes last replaced? Were the tubes the ones specified for the product? -

battery Crazy Battery 700 vs. Standard question
psarkissian replied to NevilleWhite's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
"... are you also saying don't even use AA or 9v rechargeable batteries on the 700? " --- Correct. The power management circuit is not designed for that. Page-4 of the manual specifies Alkaline batteries only. -
Yes. They work pretty good. Early version of the Elixir had a tendency to shed a little bit after a while, but they have since solved that. 10's and 11's are factory recommended gauges for Variax guitars. 12's tend to be too much and 9's a bit on the thin sounding side, work okay.

JTM-59 Pick guard?
psarkissian replied to ichasedx's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Seen a few JTV-59 guitars across my bench with LP pick-guard. They're okay, mount very close to the way LP's do. Just don't drill too deep of a screw hole. -
US made Variax, where are they????
psarkissian replied to ichasedx's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
" Just wondering...what type of repairs do you find most common to cross your bench? " --- A variety of things, nothing in particular, a bit of everything guitar with a processor in it. " Do you repair the electronics or luthier service to the guitars? " --- Both. Though I don't have a paint booth, so I'm limited when it comes to finishing work. I also do electronic keyboards, a host of audio, video, RF/microwave/light-wave communications and such. Got started at 14 and doing this for a living when I was 19 (some 46 years ago), building mainframe computer printers by day and crewing for the rock band Iron Butterfly in my off-hours. -
The US ones are made here in the Los Angeles area and are more hand worked, paint coated and finished. They feel good and play good. Know the guy, he does excellent work. " I ask why have so many players like Jennifer Batten changed the pickups and neck. " --- Don't know why. I've serviced her Variax. The Framus neck she had put on it is pretty good. It must appeal to the feel she was going for. The Seymour Duncan pick-ups are within the DC resistance (DCR) spec range for 3rd party pick-ups to match with the rest of the circuitry. So it works. It came in for some periodical servicing, the 50,000 mile check up, as it were. I guess the short answer to the question is that she did it because that's the way she liked. Kudos to her guitar tech for not messing up.

battery Crazy Battery 700 vs. Standard question
psarkissian replied to NevilleWhite's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
Not compatible. Do not use rechargeable batteries on the older Variax. Certain IC chips of that time don't take kindly to rechargeable batteries and their changing levels. -
Part not available to end user. It will need to be serviced by a Line 6 authorized service center. If it's burned, then that is a symptom, changing the main board won't solve it. It will need to be checked for the source cause that got it burn in the first place, or it will do it again. Get with an authorized service center. https://line6.com/find/service_center/

Pickup Switch for JTV-59
psarkissian replied to rsto10's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Have to get into it. As you can see, nothing electric can be gotten to by dripping or spraying in at the toggle. Board level stuff. Not be done from the outside. -
US made Variax, where are they????
psarkissian replied to ichasedx's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Gauge and tension are related, with tension comes good transfer of energy to the piezo. After that, it's up to the circuitry. Not so much tone, but more solid amplitude of the pitch. -

10's or 11's, we use 10's, the D'Addario XL-110 is the factory set. D'Addario NYXL and Elixir Optiweb 10's and 11's are well liked. -
There is no external bundle to grab, they are already in the guitar, re-Flash using Monkey to get factory presets. Then bring up on Workbench and save to a folder on your computer. Anything else are third party patches.
