US made Variax, where are they????
psarkissian replied to ichasedx's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Cherry Sun 59,... very good. Have a couple Tobacco Suns and Cherry Suns, here in the repair lab at Line 6. Like having a Les Paul to the N-th power. -

Very good :) If boards in mine go, I'll just design some other active circuits for it and have some fun. :) -

59 Tobacco Sunburst US on the right, with the Hip Shot tuners, sculpted heel is really nice, good feel for those upper notes. -
US made Variax, where are they????
psarkissian replied to ichasedx's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
So, who else her has played a JTV US version? -
No, XPS is for using when playing only, not for updating or Workbench HD use. Tony's posting should be TRS, cable (with no connect on the other end) or headphone adapter, the idea is to engage the battery during update or Workbench HD, it's just a battery switch. I'll check that posting i the morning when I get in,... I'm the one who prepared that info him, for that.

Yes, he has the pieces, but doesn't actually build the US guitar until an order is put in. -

I have six of them and I like them, one is a US because I like his work. I also service them, so I'm with these all the time. Great play, good sounds and the Workbench HD application allows you to customize your sounds and tunings. How many guitars can do that? The US version is more hand crafted by one of Tyler's people who is also part of that boutique guitar making circle of people, the guy who does the paint and finish has an excellent reputation. Feels and plays great. I've played them, don't know who else here has. -
https://line6.com/find/service_center/ There are two, Dover and Manchester, New Hampshire. They service guitars and can consult me if they want. Fender switch won't work. These are made specific for use in Variax guitars only. Log a Support ticket in your account, they can inform you of your options.

US made Variax, where are they????
psarkissian replied to ichasedx's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
They are made by one of Tyler's people in a shop in the Los Angeles area. I have five Korean made and one US made, either one is quite good. US is more hand worked. Colors are standard colors with a finer finish coating, but different from Korean colors. Premium Hip Shot locking tuners. All around nice feel. Different pick guards for the US version. As far as acquiring one, check with the retailer. I got mine second hand from a fellow Line 6 employee. -

Best to go to an authorized service tech, as they will be more experienced with this guitar. https://line6.com/find/service_center/ -
Flextone II repetative pop noise
psarkissian replied to jvinceller's topic in Flextone I / II / III / Duoverb / HD147
" I'm using it in Europe, in Germany with 230V / 50Hz if that matters " --- It does. It must be set-up for the power of the region. -
Variax not working from 1/4" output
psarkissian replied to johnsetej's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Best performance is with a TRS cable,... and what sliverhead said. TRS has been part of the world of guitars with active powered electronics, going back to the mid 1970's. -
1) Difference would be the modeling of the year of the guitar modeled from and the toggle position of the unit being modeled from. 2) " I'm guessing it was a previous firmware version, or maybe one of my previous Variaxes (original, and then later 700). " --- Nope. Started from scratch with these. That's one of the reasons old and new models don't have portability between them.

Variax not working from 1/4" output
psarkissian replied to johnsetej's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Using 1/4" output,... 1) Use a TRS (tip/ring/sleeve) 1/4" plug. Tip= signal, ring= battery +V voltage, sleeve= ground return. 2) Make certain there's a fully charged battery in the battery compartment. -
Variax 300 not connecting to Workbench
psarkissian replied to erbisti's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
Suspect intermittent solder point, processor board component or loose connection. Not a self repair. Make certain your guitar is registered in your account, then log a Support ticket. -
Transplants are not for the faint of heart, and left handed adds complications, so the piezo wiring and string nut have to be flipped. Plus,... a transplant will have a different tone color EQ in a different body. I'm the guy at Line 6 that services Variax and have done a number of mods and transplants. Be certain you know what it is you are getting yourself into.

New Workbench Software Borked My Jtv
psarkissian replied to AdInfinitum's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Line 6 site Downloads page. It's a freebie for JTV, Standard and Shuriken, with Flash v2.00 and higher. -
" So you are complaining that you had loads of work, most companies would be happy about that and use it as a revenue stream... " --- Loads of work isn't so bad. It's when it ends up on my bench needlessly from those who claimed they knew what they were doing, and unaware of certain quirks, like affects and interactions between piezos with magnetic pick-ups, and not knowing how to deal with that in the set-up. Once had one come back with neck relief that had more in common with a violin or an old Gibson hollow body archtop. " I assume Line 6 charges for setups and repair work. " --- Repair work, yes,... usually if it's out of warranty. Come back just for a set-up, no. They don't want me bogged down with something like that. Better that be done by a Line 6 authorized service center that's local to the customer. " Maybe a half decent guitar tech could release a setup vid on YouTube, or perish the thought Line 6 could produce one. " --- Had a document and planned a video follow up, until some many who said they knew what they were doing, turned out to not know, and I got bogged down with set-ups and not repairs. Ironically it was my idea to put it out there until so many messed up. Nice idea at the time, just didn't work. Like I mentioned earlier, " There's the service center page with the guitar sub-heading for those that service our guitars. And if they need to consult me, they have channel access for that. " Good questions.
