The leds won't light on and off according to MIDI signals, only effects on and off.

Lousy Acoustic Sounds - How To Improve?
pugdealer replied to janssengr's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I'd seen Sean's blog entry! I also use 0.11's, always have on the JTV, and like I said before, the 2.0 or even those after 1.8 sound good to me when picking, but when strummed...jeez, not even close! They're so boomy, roomy...at least to me! I have to EQ a lot before getting the sound I want, and I still haven't got it right! I'm 80% satisfied...for now it's enough to keep 2.0, I'm sure I'll get it just right for me on the HD500 for the acoustics...- 26 replies

Lousy Acoustic Sounds - How To Improve?

I believe you!!! That's why I stuck for so long with 1.72! But I gotta have this 2.0 over the electrics...they're much better, and specially palm mutting!!! I can kinda live and like this acoustic patch I got going on now...so, I'm happy!- 26 replies

Lousy Acoustic Sounds - How To Improve?
pugdealer replied to janssengr's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Here's my acoustic example The first sounds you hear are JTV 69 (2.0) to HD500 (my own acoustic patch) to garageband, and the second sound is just JTV 69 (2.0) to HD500 (clean patch with only the same reverb as on the acoustic patch) to garageband All comparison sounds were recorded using the looper, so no difference in sound will have to do with the way I was playing. So far, with my acoustic patch, this is the best I can get the JTV 2.0 acoustic to sound good to my ears! All the sounds were recorded with the Acoustic-1, tone 100% jtv acoustic.mp3- 26 replies

Lousy Acoustic Sounds - How To Improve?
pugdealer replied to janssengr's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I get you, and I agree! Up until last week I stuck with fw 1.72 because its acoustics sounded muuuuch better to me. After that they just got so bommy, roomy, nasal, that I couldn't like or do anything with them! And I also agree they kinda sound fine when finger picking, but when strummed...GOOOOD, no!! Since last week I've been on fw 2.0, and I'm trying to stick to it, cause I really like the electrics are a LOT better than on 1.72, and I've been trying to workout a patch on my HD500 for an acoustic! I've spent hours on it, and though I'm not 100% happy with it, it's close! I mostly strum when playing the acoustic, so it had to sound good when strummed! I think you really need to fiddle with EQ and compression to get them to sound right...I'll try to post an example of mine later...- 26 replies

Expression Pedal Not Working While Hd500 Controlled By Daw?
pugdealer replied to drunkuilled's topic in POD HD
What DAW are you using and how is it connected to the POD? I control my HD500 from Cubase Ai6, connected via USB to an M-audio fast track pro and then to the POD via MIDI cables, both in and out. Preset changes are instantaneous, and I've never had a problem so far. After a while of use, both exp light get lit, as on yours, I have no Idea why, but it doesn't seem to affect the way the POD responds to the computer signals! I also use some whammy effects, shifting pitch up and down quite a lot of times, and it's been working fine so far. I'd say there must be something wrong with your daw or programming or connections. When you say you want to play a whammy, do you mean physically with your foot or controlled over DAW? CC#59 does the same thing as when you press the toe button on the exp pedal. Theres a button that normally changes from EXp1 to EXP2 and vice-versa when you press hard on the upper part of the exp pedal. -
Hope this helps...it helped me, and I can do it now!

Thanks! So, what if I connect the L3t output to the soundboard, does the L3t mode affect the sound going out? What I meant by "micced up" was how to put mics in front of it!

Vdi Cable And Battery Usage
pugdealer replied to Goooner1's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
VDI will power the variax alone, no battery power is used -
Thanks guys... That's kinda what I was thinking to myself. I basically just hear the 10" driver when in Ele. guit. mode, so I figured I could just mic the driver and be fine. My whole confusion had more to do with the cab simulation. I have them all on, and most patches just sounded instantly better when I changed from PA to Elec Guit, so I was a bit confused on whether the Elec guit mode was designed to be used with full amp and cab sim on or with the sim off. I imagine miccing in PA mode would require at least 2 mics, 1 for the driver and 1 for the horn. But are the 2 10" drivers making the same exact sound? If not I would need a 3rd mic and that sounds WAY more complicated to mix and defeats the my purpose, I think... I think I might spend some hours experimenting...Are you sure the cab sim should be off in elec guit mode? It sounded so good on! :P

Hey guys I've been using my POD HD500 direct to FOH when playing live and the sound has been very inconsistent as the sound guys that are up front. So I've been considering (and advised to) using the L3T micced up live as an amp so I'll probably get a closer sound up front compared to what I ear coming out of the l3t, which I what I use to tweak my patches. I just updated the POD to 2.2 and it has good control over the L3t, though unfortunately it still lacks control over the speaker mode on the pod...it stores the setting, but I can't change the mode from the POD...anyway I've always had the POD on studio/direct and am using full amp models. The questions are: 1 - Since I used the full amp models, should I use only PA/reference mode or is it better to go for electric guitar mode? 2 - How should the L3T be micced up? It seems to work completely different when in PA or Elec Guit. 3 - Could someone explain in detail the electric guitar mode, other than just "simulates 2x12 cabinet"? Thanks

I don't know the Diezel amp, but on its manual you should find which MIDI messages change channel...then just program the pod to send that specific message on the specific button you want. To program the pod you hold the move button and then select the message on the button you need to send...hope that was clear enough!

Is This A New Feature Or A Problem?!
pugdealer replied to pugdealer's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Ok...that's fine by me...I just needed to know if this was normal or not! Thanks guys -
I might go back to 1.71 again...It always worked for me, specially the acoustics...but I really wanted to know if this was a feature or a problem...so far I'm tied, since I got 2 different replies!

Hey guys Just updated the HD500 do 2.2 and have the JTV on 2.0. I noticed that if, for example, I'm on a patch set to acoustic 1 on the JTV (or anything else) and then move the PU selector it will change the acoustic sounds on the JTV regardless of where the model selector is... so, i.e. the patch is set for acoustic, the model knob is on T-model, and when moving the PU selector it changes acoustic sounds rather than T-model sounds as before... so, is this a new feature or a problem? Hope that was clear enough...

Acoustic Patches For 2.0!?

get it on wetransfer and post the download link, or get it on custom tone and share the link! ;) -
Hey guys I've just traded my 59 for a 69. The new one came in yesterday and I'm pretty satisfied, though I was surprised to find it a bit dirty from the polishing...fretboard and neck screws... and a small dent on the headstock...still, loved playing it at rehearsal! The neck is much more to my taste than the 59 was, and a lot better than on the first 69 I tried a couple years ago! It came with 2.0, which I had tried on my 59 (I tried them all), but I always ended up going back to 1,72 for the acoustics...could never used them after 1.8! So, my cry for help is...Can any of you get me a patch for my HD500 that makes the acoustics on 2.0 sound good? I'd really like to keep the 2.0, but the acoustics are killing me!
