  1. I was actually more interested in how to remove the pickguard! What are the steps? Well, I know it's not actually rocket science, but what and how do you remove things, like volume, model, tone, tunning knobs... can anyone list a simple guide?
  2. 7??? 8??? 9??? Why so many!?!?!? I completely agree with TheRealZap on the pickguard thing...on the 69 it looks great...on the 69s....hmmmm...no, not good! There's something about the way they go around the bridge PU that just ruins it all! Well, my 59 was just sent away to its new owner...my new 69 should arrive monday! Merry xmas to me :D
  3. Well I Have a 59, which I bought over the 69 cause they were soldout at the time. The 59 kina grew on me, but I always had that "splinter" in my mind...69, 69, 69...and so I was contemplating buying a 69. I'd have 2 JTV's which would at least be useful as a backup for live situations. But, I ended up selling the 59...just today actually...and I'm buying a red 69! So, as my wallet and live gigs can't yet justify 2 JTV's, I'll be sticking with a 69 fo the moment...but If my wallet and gigs get better I'm sure I will get a second JTV!
  4. Hey guys Well, the question is pretty straight forward...would you own more than one JTV? Does being the same (variax wise) makes it kinda hard or redundant to justify owning 2 or more different models? Let me know why...your thoughts!
  5. Hey guys At least some of us have seen price drops on our usual online stores...so I'm wondering, can this mean a new JTV is about to come out?
  6. Hey guys When I first bought my JTV a couple of years ago, I read a bunch of topics on the forum before I made my mind...specially regarding the issues people were having back then. The 69 had people complaining about the 1st string slipping off the fret board, and some about the tremolo, whereas the 59 had people complaining about the faulty 3-way switch...these were the most common complaints if my memory serves me well. Well, I ended up buying a 59, which made me VERY happy...it was pretty, comfortable, well built, and it's been very reliable...no glitches or faults whatsoever. The thing is, I always had a thing for the 69...that's my kind of guitar! Lets just say I'm more of a fender guy that a gibson. So, I've been thinking about selling the 59 and getting a new 69. My wallet can't afford having the 2. So, the questions are: Am I making a mistake or not? Is the 59 a better guitar? let me know how you owners feel about them both!
  7. I play 11's and I had to extend the bridge scews to pull it further back to get a good intonation...it event got the connector underneath the bridge rubbing the wood...it's as far back as it can be! I use earnie ball power slinky 0.11s That's the only way I can get it to intonate correctly!
  8. I think the difference isn't that much noticeable when it comes to the modeling part...but the magnetics can vary a lot in sound by themselves, let alone including the wood/body differences! I own a JTV-59, and I'm sure the set neck and mahogany body/neck makes for better sustain and tone compared to the 69 or 89, but I'd say that, apart from the sustain, the modeling sounds pretty much the same on all 3 models I'm even looking into trading my 59 for a 69 as of this post!!!
  9. Some stands may interfere with the place where the VDI or even Jack connects! I have an old stand like this one http://images.guitarcenter.com/products/optionLarge/MusiciansGear/DV016_Jpg_Large_580387.001_black_R.jpg and I can't place the guitar with the cable connected, so what I do is just close it to the previous pin marker and voilá!
  10. It's fine...just put what you feel it's best for you! I use 0.11s myself, though on a 59... You'll need some intonation adjustment once you change gauge, but then again, you would anyway with 0.10s, as the guitars hardly ever come intonated, and specially having a tremolo + the natural expansion/contraction of the wood with temperature/humidity/time, it's guaranteed you need to fiddle with intonation.
  11. I use earnieball 0.11, and I find them MUCH better at sustain, tone, intonation, bends, than the standard 0.10s I owned a fender acoustasonic tele before, and it had as standard 0.11s with a wound G for better acoustic sounds/feel, and it seemed to work, but so far I'm sticking with the non-wound G on my JTV... I'd definitely recommend going to 0.11s anyhow
  12. 1. I use 0.11's on my 59 and I find them to suit the guitar much better...the extra tension makes for a better sound/sustain IMHO. Intonation will change of course, but that's eeeeeeeeeeasily overcome with a slight adjustment on the bridge! 2. that sounds like poor contact on the switch...If it improves by exercising, maybe you could use a bit of concact spray...or I'm just saying something really dumb...If it's under warranty, get it fixed!
  13. I just rolled back to good old 1.71!!! I just can not use the acoustics after that...1.71 is just FIIIIIIIIINE and I'll be sticking with it for a looooooooong time....
  14. I've had a 69 and now have a 59... If you're using a POD HD500x with the guitar, than the switch "problem" doesn't exist, you just bypass the switch with the presets on the POD I personally don't use the trem and prefer stop tail bridges, and so, when I had the 69, I just locked the trem...just look for videos on youtube on how to do it, it's pretty simple and cheap! I'd say I have "medium" hands, and I can handle the 59's thickness just fine...it's comfortable, and once I got used to it, it felt right! But I really loved the slimmer 69's neck, and that feel of wood, not laquer (or whatever) like on the 59. Still, the main reason I traded the 69 was that thing people kept talking about...the E string slipping off the fretboard. Some other thing I didn't like so much on the 69 was the bridge. It wasn't much comfortable to rest the palm on, and palm muting was not something I could just feel in control right away. On the other hand, the 59 has a f........ awesome bridge...comfortable, I could palm mute like a boss right from the start...just brilliant... Modeling wise, like it's been said, they're the same... I'd just like to say that, although I love my 59, cause it's very well built, beautiful, comfortable, and great to play...the 69 just wins my heart...I mean, I've always been a fender guy, specially a tele guy, but a strat looking guitar is just something that gets me all the time...If I could have a 69 with the characteristics I love so much about my 59, I'd be in guitar heaven!!!
  15. I'd say 1.8 or above...I stuck with 1.71 for a long time and it doesn't sound to me like it...Wouldn't say 2.0 either!
  16. Not that it has anything to do with your problem...but I switched my strings for .11's (which I prefer) and the sound/feel got better for me!!!
  17. I just heard the demo sound....shhhh................t! That's bad!!! 4 guitars in a row like this?!!?
  18. 4th JTV?!? I don't wanna be rude or anything...but, it might be you... Well...let me elaborate more! I have a preset on my HD500 wich I play with an alternate tuning, which is basicly having all strings 2 steps up and the 1st string 4 steps up, and it's very clear to my hears that the sound on that preset sounds more distorted when I used that alt tuning, and less in standard tuning, but in my case that's what I want, so I tweaked the preset to get the desired amount of distortion with that alt tuning. I use another alt tuning on an acoustic preset, but I only change 1 string and I don't hear distortion. Normaly what I hear in alt tunings is a little warble, and I guess that's what causes the distortion, but even in standard tunings, and specially on the acoustics, the sound seems to distort a bit when strumming really hard, so I tend to avoid that... So, considering this technology, maybe it's you...maybe you have to adapt your playing style to suit the guitar
  19. That can be done... But why would you run the aux thru the POD!? If that's the kind of monitoring you want, buy a cheap and very smal mixer so you can do that and keep all the versatility of the POD intact!
  20. I've been playing a bit with 2.0, using the presets I had on my HD500, which were made for the previous firmware I was sticking to (1.71). Palm muting....waaaaaaaaaaay better Gibsons....waaaaaaaaaaaaay better Teles....waaaaaaaaay better Strat...waaaaaaaaaay worse Acoustics...mixed feelings on those...I used to love the dread, and now I can't use it, and I use to hate the gibson and now it's my fav and the one I use. Don't really care for the others... All the presets I had with strats now sound awful...I mean...damn...they just suck now...I could probably get them working again with a lot of tweaking on the presets (and on WB), but all the other presets sound so much better, specially the ones made with the lesters...wow, so much better...I really felt like I had a real fu....ing les paul in my hands!! The feel, tone, dynamics are way better! WAY TO GO Line 6!!! just fix that f..... strat ;) I'm sure you will make us all happy real soon
  21. I just updated to 2.0! I agree with someone who said that in the old variax up until the JTV with 1.71 the acoustics sounded like reeally good acoustic to DI sounds, and that was just fine by me...sounded good right out of the guitar with no tweaking and were easily manipulated to get the right tone. I LOOOOVED the dreadnought!! After 1.8 they got that mic'ed sound, and I hated them...there was just toooo much room effect for me, and I started hating the dread. The acoustics sounded muddy, distant, flat, really booomy, and I couldn't use/like them no matter how much tweaking I did, so I stuck with 1.71. Now the 2.0 The acoustics struck me again as a bit too roomy and muddy/boomy. I wish they modeled them with a mix of DI feel. Still hate the dread, but I find the gibson nice and usable. Acoustics are really important to me, so I really need to like them to keep the 2.0 On the electric side, the first thing I noticed was how much better palm muting sounds...I know this had been improved in previous firmwares, but I'd been stuck with 1.71 so that's a big change for me. I haven't explored much at all, so I'll have to report back on that some other time
  22. That's why I've bee sticking with 1.71...can't like any acoustic sounds on the newer firmwares...haven't tried the 2.0 though, but I will, I always do!
  23. If you're using a JTV with the VDI cable, just use the jack on the JTV to get the clean signal...it saves you a bunch of fiddling on the presets!!!
  24. 1 - The best results would be in Studio/direct. That's the best way to reproduce the sounds on the POD. I should not use PRE amp models...you may, if that's the sound you're after, but normally the tones people look for rely on full amp modeling, so that's what you should use, unless, like I said, the PRE amp sound gets you the tone you're really after. It's not a rule, just a matter of personal taste. Normally, Line 6 recommends using the PRE amp models when using a DT amp, cause the amp will do the power amp stage of the modeling, but when going straight to the PA or an L2 or L3 that doesn't apply. 2 - As of now (that I know of), the POD won't control the modes on the L2/L3 systems, so I'd say it would depend on the sounds you use. If you only use electric sounds, than you should probably put it in "electric guitar" mode, BUT, if you also use the acoustic sounds, then you should leave it in PA mode, cause the acoustic sounds wouldn't sound as good if in "electric guitar" mode. I use an L3t and I always keep it in PA mode. 3 - Like I said before, if you're using both electric and acoustic sounds, leave it PA mode. When (and if) the POD will be able to control the modes on the L2/L3, then you'll be able to have it in "electric guitar" mode when playing electric, and "acoustic" when playing acoustic sounds just by the touch of a button on the POD :)
