Absolutely positively. Helix is a completely different sound engine and workflow and is vastly superior in every possible way.

Importing old patches after update- Setlist, or Setlist and Bundle ?
PeterHamm replied to electricfactory's topic in Helix
NEVER use Bundle, it overwrites your new Factory patches and templates. Bundle is, imho, only for moving an entire set of patches from a primary to a backup device. Re-import set lists (don't forget any IR you need, and figure out the order you need them in). -
Helix Rack, Helix Control, Toe Switch as momentary switch?
PeterHamm replied to Woodlandsu35's topic in Helix
When I said Mod your control, I meant physically add a jack. If you're not pressing both at once, though... why can't the momentary switch be one of the already existing switches on Control? I honestly don't get it. -
Helix Rack, Helix Control, Toe Switch as momentary switch?
PeterHamm replied to Woodlandsu35's topic in Helix
So I'm doing the math. You do this all while seated, correct? Since you'd have to hold the momentary switch with one foot and the chopper frequency with the other foot. I will tell you one thing that might solve it for you is if someone could mod your Control so that one of the on-board foot switches can be connected to an external pedal instead. -
Helix Rack, Helix Control, Toe Switch as momentary switch?
PeterHamm replied to Woodlandsu35's topic in Helix
And if you want the toe switch to be active at the same time you use something else, my solution above works perfectly. Logically, it would make no difference. -
For home? Stereo studio monitors!

Did you do the thing where you hold two foot switches on boot up to re-set everything? If not, please try that next. Instructions for that would be in the text that describes the latest FW update.

You could just freeze your tracks. Accomplishes the same end.

Well, if you disable Native, you have just the raw guitar sound. Probably not useful. What you CAN do, if you want... is take a hybrid approach. Record using the patch in Helix, and then record a mono dry track at the same time. You can use that mono dry track to "re-amp", but you won't have to have Helix even turned on to do it, just fire up Native.
-
Yes. You can definitely record three tracks with LT as an interface simultaneously. Here's something though. If you are recording 8-channels of drums through mikes, you'll have to use an outboard mixer or preamps and then plug that into those inputs on Helix. That is NOT a great solution for serious recording, and you'd be better off having a multi-channel interface with balance inputs for those times when you need to do that. Borrow one from a friend for the day, though. Don't buy one unless you need it all the time.

Helix Rack, Helix Control, Toe Switch as momentary switch?
PeterHamm replied to Woodlandsu35's topic in Helix
it is not available at this time. I do not know if it's possible. I guess I can't see why not, but I think it would be very unusable for most users, because you have to learn on the pedal the whole time you have that effect available. That said, I think it might be cool for what you describe! There may be a way to do that, though! Let's say you have a Wah and your chopper tremelo assigned to the same controller, set up the chopper in "Bypass Assign" to EXP 1 (or whatever EXP you're using, and set the "Position" parameter to something really high like 98 or 99% and the wait to something los, 0 or 10ms. I bet that will do what you want. -
If you want them to go ALL the way one way or the other and you're using the Pan block, it's Left 100 or Right 100. Keep in mind you don't need to even bother with a pan a block, though. Go to the output block of each chain and there is a pan control. Use that instead.

You can easily take one source in and do anything you'd do with that one source in Helix. So, you could record a bass track and then have it go through 2, 3, 4 bass amps in ONE instance of Helix. It's no problem. But Helix Native responds to ONE input and has ONE output... so... ...you can easily eq two different amp paths WITHIN HELIX NATIVE but there's only one external EQ available on that track. So, if you wanted to use your DAW's channel EQ, you could simply create two instances of Native, then you could "freeze" them if you need to free up CPU horsepower. Here's what you CAN NOT do... you can't take ONE instance of Helix Native and use two different inputs or send it to two different outputs. So all my fancy two-voice stuff has to be done with two tracks, and two instances of Native. Does that make sense?
-
This is correct, but you CAN plug the digital output from Helix into a mixer's AES/EBU input if one exists (although you probably can't send it over a snake, so don't try), or if it's a Line 6 mixer, some of those I think have a L6Link input. But, again, don't do this. This is a bad idea in a live environment.

I would suggest to you that trying to use any one piece of gear (other than a mixer, obviously) for that many signals is going to become an exercise in logistical frustration... where you're thinking so much about your signal chain that you can't just get lost in the music. I would just send the vocals through the house. Let 'em deal with that at the board.

1. You will never hear the extra D/A -> A/D conversion. You just won't hear the difference. 2. Digital connections are fiddly about the cable they travel over and there is much that can go wrong at each end. 3. At home where the connection is basically an installation, not a moving target, it's great. On stage, it's not a good idea, and most importantly, it's just overkill. A balanced analog connection sounds fantastic. 4. This is usually a case where the user feels they have to use every jack and output on Helix they can or they aren't getting their money's worth, and convincing themselves they can hear a difference when in fact in a blind test they probably couldn't. I go even further. I won't use my XLR outs on Helix live to the board at all. I use the 1/4" out to a D.I. because there are a multitude of problems that can happen with the XLR signal (phantom power, impedance and level mismatches mostly) which simply don't happen when you feed the house with something from a decent quality D.I. And, yes, it sounds the same unless you are using a 25' or longer cable between the Helix and the D.I. So use something 10' or shorter. It sounds the same.

It depends, in my experience, in the space you have more than anything. I prefer something even SMALLER (my FRFR is a coax 8" FBT), but 10s and 12s seem to be the norm. I hate carrying huge heavy stuff, so 10 and smaller for me...

You might have somebody in this church that has a bias against modelers because they've heard bad sounds from them. Get a great tone cranking' through helix and ask them to give it a shot, they might be surprised!
-
Your church open to you going direct? It may very well sound as good or better.

Glad you had good results trying IRs. Now... try this. Try a dual cab instead of an IR... pick two cabs you like, and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD change the mic model to some kind of Ribbon. imho, dual cabs (even in mono) sound better than any other option.
-
No, don't bother trying to mess with digital connections to connect to a PA, even if it has Digital Ins. Too much can go wrong with digital signals in that environment. XLR out to the mixer (WITH PHANTOM POWER OFF) or 1/4" out to Direct Box to mixer is the way to go.

imho, a 10" FRFR like the QSC K10 is perfect for this.

I end up having to use headphones a lot for playing at home. I alternate between Shure SE 215 IEMs (which because they aren't conventional headphones but are IEMs means that I can actually tweak sounds with this and use them live with almost no adjustment)... then I switch to Sennheiser HD380s which I like a lot (but need to break in before they sound good) and an old broken in pair of AKG K240Ms. I like using it with headphones, actually.

No, I doubt you'll ever see FBV3 support, but having Control work with Native is only an idea at this point and most certainly won't be the case at launch (if it is even possible... I honestly don't know...)
