Can you run both simultaneously? I know on my rack you can't run AES and SPDIF both, it's one or the other.
-
I think this would be amazing. no, it doesn't currently exist.
-
The looper is designed as a scratchpad. If you like the way Headrush sounds and works, then perhaps it's a viable alternative. I think it's horrendous in terms of workflow, woefully behind Helix in terms of tonal flexibility, and behind Helix (not as much) in terms of sound quality. Again, I'd seriously consider adding a dedicated looper.

They are legendary for not holding up. Behringer has hit the ball out of the park with their x32 and accompanying stuff. Most everything else they make is awful.
-
I think for these needs, you really will want to look into a dedicated looper. I just don't see this coming to Helix. most people do NOT need all the things you list, and the hardware was designed accordingly. For instance, the memory is not built-in to Helix to save or make the duration longer... it's just not in there, and no firmware update will change that. I, too, love to use the looper in Helix, but am very close myself to maybe investing in the big Boss one.

The issue is that if FRFR is a solution that works well in your situation, it is an adjustment from a guitar amp. If you don't need to make that adjustment, that's okay. I am going to guess you were looking for the "amp in the room" feel/sound. That's fine. Obviously, Helix gives that to you through a guitar amp return input. What the FRFR solution gives you is the amp in the NEXT room, miked and put through a speaker in THIS room. Very helpful in many situations. It's the difference between the way the two kinds of speakers move air, among other things. Great that you have your own personal solution, though. Cheers!

I've used speakers designed for home systems as "studio monitors" with great success. It's a fine way to get your feet wet and decide if you want to go whole hog into FRFR.
-
You don't have to do that. This is how.
-
The good news is, you can do all the re-amping you want or need with LT no problem!
-
It's easy. At the same time you record the wet sound from USB 1/2 (or even just monitor it), record a signal onto USB 7. USB 7 is always (unless you change it in globals I think) the dry guitar input. Then output that recorded track to whatever USB input you set your Helix patch to and record back to USB 1/2 and you're good to go. Even better, if you have Helix or Helix Rack, Helix Native is a near-no-brainer at 99 bucks, and you can re-amp without even plugging Helix in.
-
he wanted to do something with NO software, though.
-
yeah, this is, thankfully, entirely incorrect.
-
Both can work well. But if you set up a typical 4-cable method, you might find you have flexibility to use some patches with the built in preamp models in Helix and some with the preamp in your amp and even switch between the two within a patch.
-
interesting way to go... use an FX return for this. Not sure if you want the global return level to be line or inst you'll have to experiment
-
You'd think so, but pushed that hard the sound would, I bet, be unusable harsh.

A single, or even a pair, of FRFRs vs. a 100W amp cranked up through a 4 x 12? won't keep up. The real answer is for the other guitarist to cease to be a d!¢k... but that's not in our realm of possibility...
-
I actually don't agree. I think with the vibe of this band (I'm guessing here), that even thought I VASTLY prefer FRFR and using the full modeling engine, this guy should seriously consider a great 4 x 12 (you can get one that's stereo, btw) and a tube power amp (also get one stereo). I don't know for sure, because I haven't heard him, but that would be a fantastic rig.
-
But we already know he plays it loud. FRFR ain't gonna keep up.
-
And from what I've heard, it's the wrong speaker to compete with a loud 100W tube amp, though. They are not good at running full-out all the time, I've heard that from a BUNCH of people (and dealers). Then again... the only solutions for the OP, imho, are either match that guy with your own 100W/4x12 or get another band or fire the guy. Seriously. 100W, or even 50W, tube amps are inappropriate in the places the OP is going to play.
-
Still an omission I'm sure they'll want to fix, but yes, that should actually work.

And damaging the hearing of the audience...

OK, just sat down to my Helix Rack to test this. I have a 4-parallel path patch I made where I can change ANY of the 4 inputs on the 4 paths to that digital S/PDIF - AES input (I can use AES input on the Rack, i know you can't but it should still work the same. BUT! if I go to a blank patch and leave path 1 at Multi and then try and change path 2 to that digital input, it doesn't come up as an option. YOU SIR, have discovered a bug and I would open a ticket with line 6. It seems it's a feature that is missing that maybe you need. Very annoying! But no, you are NOT CRAZY. Well, I hope you ARE crazy, because it's way more fun, you just are not crazy in this particular regard.

You have to set up SOMETHING to allow audio in in order to do this. It has nothing to do with the interface, no interface does what you seek.
-
So you are on Helix Floor (not LT) and you are navigating to the input block and it is not letting you select SPDIF in?

Another thought about your stereo situation. Two guitarists in a band... One is using a 100W 4x12, the other is using stereo FRFR. Which one gets lost in the sauce. I'll give you a hint. It ain't the guy with the 100W amp. I need to know how loud you guys play, seriously... Actually, if it were me, and he was cranking' that, either it goes or I go.
