  1. What you can do is EASILY copy the amp block from one patch to another, but snapshot info and stuff doesn't go with it I don't think.
  2. If all your sounds are going to have the same base amp tone, you may find yourself, as I do, able to use only one patch for a guitar. I do have different patches for different guitars (Tele vs. Les Paul type sound), but can easily get virtually everything I need with one patch. You can create snapshots with different levels of gain, etc., too.
  3. If you only play at home, you MIGHT be okay with some other controller, but the ability to use snapshots and turn stomps on and off easily is really amazing, as is pedal edit mode. You CAN get another device to do some of that stuff, but anyone who's used the package together might tell you that Control is really a must. I play mostly at home right now, and STILL don't want to give all this functionality up.

    Input Pad

Try this, btw. I find that a Humbucker guitar like a LP sounds better with the pad off, BUT... with your volume only on 7, 8 or 9.
  5. You need some external device to transmit MIDI, as mentioned above. I can say this, there is NO way having used the Rack for the past year and some that I'd EVER want to run without Control. It is THAT integral to the whole experience of programming, performing with, and using Helix Rack.
  6. Do you have a compressor after the volume pedal? If so, switch their position if you can.
  7. The original post was for "best practices". imho, that involves... imho. 1. Get the best sound for your audience and put up with the difference in the IEMs. Don't favor getting the IEMs perfect. The audience is who you are playing for, not yourself. 2. Either use a wedge or IEMs. If you're using IEMs, turn off the wedge. You're just adding stage noise that you were ostensibly trying to get rid of when you switched to IEMs in the first place. 3. Always know that (imho) the IEMs will sound more like a PA than a pair of headphones will. They are designed that way. 4. when playing in headphones, it's okay to tweak certain things imho, BUT... only in the first few minutes of playing through them. Ear fatigue with headphones or IEMS kicks in FAST and you are EQing for tired ears.
  8. First, you can easily split a chain into two paths and use two delays in parallel, also there is a "Dual Delay" in Helix. use two of those in parallel and you have 4 delays, and that is only on one path. There's another path. There is also a multi tap delay in there and I think there might be another one coming in an update.
  9. Keep in mind that you can use a foot switch to control a parameter too if it's only between two values!
  10. Some things to check. Input impedance. Auto is not always best. Hi and Low cut on cabs/IRs. And on the amp model, check to make sure that your master is not all the way up. When amps are run flat out at full, they often have artifacts that are modeled in Helix and other devices. Also check SAG/Ripple/Bias/Bias X(mostly if high gain)/hum. Best clean amps, imho, are the Twin, JC120 and Archon Channel 1. HiWatt, Deluxe, and Tweed Blues can get really nice clean stuff, too.
  11. But 399 for everyone else. I believe all the details are not set in stone, but I am reasonably sure it will not be free to Helix owners for sure.
  12. I exclusively use the 1/4" outs to DI boxes. I have rigorously compared and it sounds the same AND eliminates multiple possible problems.
  13. I actually very rarely use the "correct" cab with an amp. The biggest exception being the Dr. Z.
  14. completely disagree. It's more an "economies of scale" thing.
  15. Patience, children. It will come. I don't think Silverhead has any inside info on when. I'm a beta tester and I don't have solid info on when it will come, and I don't think SH is... so... ...patience children...
  16. I use my POG2 a LOT, and my Mel9, too. And my ambience sounds better than my synth ambience usually does...
  17. For me, an electric guitar into ANYTHING other than the Guitar input does NOT sound right. And, imho, I wish Line 6 (and virtually everybody else) had put the Guitar In on the BACK of the unit, but alas, nobody seems to on rack units. Axe doesn't have the guitar input on the back, but Kemper, interestingly, does have an alternative input back there that I think works well with guitar. It's a minor inconvenience for me, but I don't use a wireless.
  18. Some guys have found an acoustic IR mixed in just a teeny bit can make the Variax sound sweet, but I agree, because of the design and what it's doing, it's unnecessary.
  19. it's also been HUGE in P&W for a while. I see POG and HOG pedals on a LOT of P&W boards.
  20. I don't know how similar they sound but I found that the previous version of these little JBL Eon monitors was FANTASTIC as an FRFR. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/EON610
  21. If you are a guy who finds himself playing through a certain kind of PA most or all of the time, I think it's best to get a wedge that sounds the most like that, made usually by that company. So, if your band uses a pair of K12s and a Sub, go QSC... etc...
  22. Add a split and you can do 3rd party IRs in stereo if you want. Quite a resource-hungry way to do it, but it can be done.
