  1. That sounds like your editor is actually not the latest one.
  2. I made my own based on DTAR and like them a lot, but the 3 Sigma are so good, I don't use any of the ones I painstakingly made anymore...
  3. Every "live" instrument (except some of the bass) on this recording was recorded using Helix. All guitars and vocals. Some guitars direct, some acoustics miked. It works great for me. https://peterhamm.bandcamp.com/album/protest-songs
  4. So you swiped out the cable? It's possible the cable wasn't seated properly or there was some junk in there. I've been using Helix Rack and Control exclusively for over a year, NEVER had this issue at all.
  5. When I first got Helix I decided I'd use it as a backup interface and keep my main interface, (A nice MOTU that I've used for years). After doing some experimentation, I sold the other one. Every vocal, every guitar, and some of the basses on this album were recorded through Helix. I printed some FX and put some on later. Some of the acoustic guitars were recorded direct with IR and some miked. https://peterhamm.bandcamp.com/album/protest-songs
  6. You should insure that you have the latest stuff installed. There are instructions, very detailed, at the Line 6 download site. Follow them to the letter and all will be well. First thing is to install the editor and save your patches to your Mac BEFORE upgrading firmware.
  7. My big one is always always always separate the amp from the cab so that you can put stuff like spring reverb and tremolo there where it sounds best.
  8. Sill question, but you DO have an FX loop assigned in the patch and turned on, correct...?
  9. I believe they have indicated there will not be an LT rack.
  10. you can do this. You set those 3 switches to send a midi command, and go MIDI out to MIDI in on Helix.
  11. Never heard this per se, but I DO know of the magic of setting the amp at half and the bass way down.
  12. i was pleasantly surprised when it worked so well, since previous units like HD 500 and XT/X3 left this off. So there was another extra piece of gear I didn't need anymore that I just... sold...
  13. And if it's not a phantom power issue, please make sure that you're output from Helix (the big knob) is at Max and you start out with gain all the way down on your mixer. If you send out a weak signal from Helix and it needs to be boosted a a bit where it goes into your system, it'll be noisy.
  14. Yes, I have been using Helix as my only Audio AND MIDI interface for a while now. It works GREAT as a MIDI interface, although early firmware builds were touchy (at least on the Rack... and before it was available to the public). But the MIDI interface functionality seems to work perfectly on every build I've used for about the past 6 months to a year. There is no reason that Sysex data required for stuff like the Big Sky wouldn't work great.
  15. Linking two Helix doesn't make sense when you could take that same money and buy somebody else's product(s) and vary your tone even MORE rather than have more of the same. If you need more blocks than what's in Helix to make your tone, there might be something wrong with the way you are doing it. Seriously...
  16. If I could afford what a 'Double Helix" would cost, I'd rather have Helix AND an AX8, probably for the same price, for more tonal variety.
  17. I've had Rack/Control for 16 months. For the first 13 of those, used it almost every weekend, moved it in and out often. No reliability issues whatsoever.
  18. It's simple. The franistat isn't malinkered properly and the swifflet isn't showing up. Simple, really...
  19. I might misunderstand what you are saying, but here goes. If you are using your volume pedal to be at 80%, imho, that's a fool's errand ultimately. (Not that you're a fool... just the task is unwise). If you are trying to back off the guitar a little before it hits the input of the amp model, that's what your guitar's volume control is BEST at. imho, the volume pedal works best as a simple on/off, swell to on/off. Trying to use a volume pedal to be "in between" is just too fiddly. Volume control before the amp will indeed change the amp's tone. I never do this, because, again, that's what my guitar's volume control is BEST at. Volume control AFTER the amp and cab (but before delays and time-based FX) will not change the tone of the amp.
  20. You can put both amps in path 1 if you separate out the cabs, which you should do anyway. Separating out the amp and cab sounds the same AND you can now put a tremolo or spring reverb effect in where it should be in many cases, between the amp and cab. In fact, you MIGHT find that you can find one cab that you like just fine for both amps, and you could then have one amp on path. I just tested, and I was able to put both amps, two distortion boxes, a compressor, a modulation, and a delay all on path 1. Then put your cabs on path 2 and whatever else you want there.
  21. imho, you don't. You simply dial out the frequencies that are making the room sound bad. You do this by ear. DO NOT use the global EQ to make your patches sound better, or else you won't have it available to do its job once you're in the club. Leave it alone until performance time. DO use a parametric EQ if you must to make your patch sound better, but before you do this, consider that the amp is not set the way it should be, or you are using the wrong amp model or cab model or both for the sound you are going for. I always try and "fix" the sound at the source, the amp model, the cab, the high and low cuts in the cab, the mic on the cab (honestly, 90% of of my tone tweaking once I have my amp set up is low cut, high cut, mic choice --I use the built-in cabs so I can do this--, as well as mic distance and early reflection).
  22. Is it possible the parameters were already set to change with a snapshot. You can NOT set a parameter to change with both snapshots AND a stomp.
  23. La studio comp does this really well for me. I plan to try the new multi-band comp for this, too.
  24. I have never once had a clipping problem in 16 months of Helix use. How the heck are you guys clipping?
