It is only going to get better with the upcoming bass pack. Re reading this thread I didn't really answer the OP question. To do so I'd have to ask how they intended to monitor both bass and guitar? If thu the same on stage amp, studio or PA?

I agree, but I haven't benn a previous POD user before the HD. Definitely try and demo one and try as spacealll suggests I think you'll be happy

I got a 400 a side BXR Fender Bass amp and it modulates enough without any FX but it depends on the gig. Usually I am playing standard rock covers and not much else is needed. But I have used the HD 4CM and found some of the FX in the HD500 just superb with bass and there is plenty of room for creative uses with dual channels like have a distortion amp with bass rolled off layered with FX on one path and a cleaner unaltered tone thru the other path. Now there is a bass pack coming out I will definitely say YES worth it! Sometimes to tone you get becomes your inspiration.

the latency throws him off using the 212. It has line input so you can use the POD HD into it. But it isn't necessary, use the HD you can still do everything n his tutorial. Also he could use the Axe II as interface unless there is a problem with it.

Does the Scarlet take s/pdif digital inputs? If so it will save an aditional conversion step. Just saw a front and back pic so no s/pdif. Use the analogue outs and turn the preamp on the 212 gain down or XLR out and turn the 212 pre amp gain up. or save a conversion and go via the HDs usb. The scarlet 212 is an entry level usb interface and wont be any better than the HD usb. It will be good for vocals or other mic'd overdubs

Interesting alright! Still at the speculation stage of development!

The variaxe has that feature, all sorts of tunings including custom ones as well as differing guitar emulations. The HD500X has the tuner, pitch shifting and harmonizing FX. Congrats on your purchase. I used to have a Spider II which I couldn't stand the sound of and really was not a Line 6 fan. Then I demo'd the HD500 and was blown away at how good it sounded compared to the Boss and Roland compatables.

The future is here! When you consider what we have available for recording mixing and mastering. It is a great time to be alive! Yeah!

It is a complaint that you set up on the headphones or monitors and when thru a PA or on stage amps it doesn't cut it. Actually it is a testament to how good the amp modelling is, It is well known the POD HDs dont translate patches that well. And many have cast it prematurely aside. You got a bunch of set lists; Even different guitars/pickups affect the tone and feel. Don't loose heart, Copy your patches to a new set list. Switch off all FX and concentrate on the amp model and get it right at the rehearsal/live space and save these in the new setlist. You also have menu options as well as configurations onboard. on the HD500 there are toggle switches for differing setups. All part of getting to know your device

Great tones and arrangement .Truly excellent potential! Personally, I prefer to use my volume control to get a mix louder. Please don't ,make listening to an otherwise great track a pain in the ears. Just tone back the compression /limiting. Guitars don't need any compression as they are clipped already excepting bass but lightly please just to even the notes. It will help make it a joy to listen to especially for us over 50's LOL Otherwise flawless! Cheers

Welcome and congrats on your purchase. At the end of the day the punters cant't tell what your using and the POD HDs are adequate and even do alright in the mix. I second working on a the amp sound first. The HD amps are more than adequate! Also the HD loop send is a TRS so you can get stereo out of it if your Lexies would like left and right. Have fun, keep us posted, you'l find this is a helpful forum . Looking foreward to your wisdom too!

Good question! When you consider that if you are any good as a guitarist and someone wants to record you;their studio will be well equipped to get a good sound by experienced hands. A guitarist could try and mic an amp and go for a home studio setup and likely get unsatisfactory results due to recording is an Engineering Art and requires some knowledge which could be gotten. While it is easy to mic an amp for a live show; right up to the grill cloth on a speaker edge you'll get the hottest sound. In the Studio you can mic the amp at a distance with a large diaphragm condenser. The room itself can interact in a controlled way with the mic as the room will be acoustically treated. On the mix board you can open up and give a greater sense of amplification to the mic'd sound. Modelling units like Fractal's Axe and the POD HDs and others actually do this for you and are best thought of as what you'd get over the monitors in a studio. Well many pro guitarist take their studio tone on the road and alas the Kemper is filling this need in a more personalized way if you can afford it. Where will it get to? I'd like to see development in the modelling to be able to go beyond that of analogue. I can envision incorporation like the Kaos x y midi controller pad. a la "MUSE" I 'd like to see the actual effects units being able to load VSTi instruments with midi control as they basically are computers in a specialized casing for live work. Even greater implementation into a computer as in midi control etc. It is time for modelers to go beyond what analogue can do and into the realm of creative instrument.

I do not know but thoroughly suggest demoing one out before you purchase and compare it to something more expensive.

Anxious from being excited about something hopefully great but not able to get

The two cabs and with selectable mics would be great! And it could be done in firmware fairly easily. Loadable IRs would be heaven! Line 6 could even put HD IRs together and sell as a pack to make it worth their while

I got the Roto swing bass stainless steel strings. But I would of preferred a brighter and more piano sounding sting. But these were on special and are great for jazz rock. A very big sounding low end on them. Proper technique, including how you hold the guitar is important but the bad habit of a lifetime might actually cause body back problems. I guess if you recognize a bad habbit in yourself you are on the way to rectifying it.

It seems the Psychs like making up disorders to profit with their pharmaceutical buddies! Short answer YES. LOLThe correct answer, your an artist striving for musical mastery LOL Those string cuts are great for perfecting the other fingers! making them take up the slack. I recently went back to a very heavy bass string gauge and it hurts. Blisters on blisters. My other bass has light slap pop strings and I woose out and tape my thumb and fore finger when it gets too much and I haven't finished.. On guitar those thimbles might be the go. heavy metal! Might even become part of your tone and reliant on them ever after LOL Not a bad idea and portable too. I need one of these but aussie dollar was 78 cent US yesterday. By the look of it I could do similar at home with one butt cheek cushion . Thanks

To me hum is the carrier wave that the varied voltages travel on within the amp. I never remove all the hum, I push it up and back it off where it feels natural and less intrusive. All my guitars a shielded including to their jacks as this sort of interference is not the carrier wave.

Good point, Ear fatigue is a factor especially in guitarists. This has made me realize why I fall asleep when I mix right after tracking. LOL Its not the trite at all! LOL Then when ears are fresh the mix needs less of what I did. Almost always. In the past it was when I got like bed sores from sitting in the studio playing that I thought it was time for a break. Nowadays I counter with a stool for playing. Next I have to get used to hold the guitar the proper way on the left leg as on the right leg is pinching nerves in my back and making it hard to fall asleep.LOL Tweaking for a good tone happens anytime for me but fresh ears would be best. I almost always end up re reading the manual of something after I have gotten to grips with it. It opens up new possibilities always. It is always good to have knowledge.

KRK VXT in the Studio at home. On the road I am bass and use a MXR 400 but I have used the POD HD for fun gigs and have amps and PA, dependiingon size. I don't have a solo show worked out as such. Mmm, I should
-
One advantage of the preset banks is you can save a patch to suit the playback monitoring in its own bank. I'd recommend keeping your already worked out rehearsal space patch and just save the patch to another bank and rework it for at home set ups. Glad you are getting satisfactory tones and sounds like you got a good set of ears for tone matching.

Don't forget the PA has an influence on the tone as well. How you route to the PA, XLR ideally! Brings it to mic level but it is not always the best for something that has already generated a preamp stage. If you are going from the POD via the jacks I'd recommend you go in via an insert return on the PA's Mixer Channel. This removes the added gain stage and can cause problems depending on the quality of the desk. This is probably why your mic'd amp sound is usable and the HD is not. At the PA you have mic preamp, EQ ,various sends and the two bus often with a global EQ to correct the signal from your POD HD. But it shouldn't need anything drastic. Probably a high cut and a 6k narrow boost for the lead guitar to make some room for the other guitar. usually lead plays when the vocals do not so the solo instrument can occupy this range for separation in FOH mix.. Good luck
