  1. I got gas too I am a real fan of the how Line6 have modeled their HD Amps. I really do like playing the amp only alot and getting it just right. After amp FX seem less destructive than before amp. So I too got gas for them , even the few that will rarely use. There are plenty in the HD now I rarely use! LOL So be nice to have a couple more favs.
  2. Totally agree with the OP With all the amp models just go an amp that has plenty of gain But to preserve the tone more add a boost from a compressor. To me the EQs are the next changers of tone discounting modulation and heavy filters I'd like to stress how good the amp models sound on their own, very realistic and even the revebs don't seem to shift the tone adversely. While it is always tempting to add FX I don't like the build up that occurs much anymore. It has been over a couple of years on the PODHD500 and for me to be starting to get picky with some of the tone is a testiment to how good it is. I got good audio engineering and mastering ears and tire of anything that imparts an undesirable digital wash. Like too many plugins especially heavy compression and limiting ouch. Anyway the amp modelling is as good as it gets imo and while I love to mic amps in the studio it is not always possible with a personal home studio and living with other people. That you can then take your studio sound out on the road is a bonus. Some don't realize how good we got it nowadays! What a great time to be alive!
  3. Follow the mixer advice. Generally go for the hottest signal you can get before the audio hits any peaks. = 0.0 db. If you go over, it'l sound digitally clipped on playback. Channel tools in your DAW will help get the best level. You want a large metering plugin. There are several that are free. You might also be able to change the scale of the small ones in Live. NO RED at all.
  4. If the levels are all set correctly hardware monitoring is off and you are monitoring from the software and nothing is clipping and you need more volume; try setting up a send to a bus. I do this for recorded DI bass. VST Drums are usually loud enough. Try sending all the drums to a bus and push the volume that way.
  5. This reminds me of some of the old original multiFX units back in the 80s. They translated very well into different playback options with a little tweaking. There are way more parameters and numerous options now with the HD. Seems the anwer you want might be the Firehawk Amplifi etc
  6. In the real world a touring act most likely is using their fav or sponsored amp(s) pedal board so the performer can replicate his records. He most likely has a guitar tech as well as a roadies for mic placement etc etc. Check out Premier Guitar Rig rundowns. That is what it takes for the top players on the planet to go on the road. A microcosm of that is I'm in my bedroom headphones on and just downloaded a bunch patches and got them sounding good and saved them. Now you go to rehearsal and the patches don't work thru the PA but the singer doesn't want you playing thru it as it is effecting his tone and it is only a practice PA so you get your amp back in for rehearsal, Then you get a gig and its an outdoor concert and you brought your rehearsal amp but the FOH took it out of the HD when should of mic'd your amp, the sound is way off you are on the spot to fix it POD HD gets dumped You decide to give it one more chance you set up the patches with the outdoor concert PA at sound check next time and that went alright. Next gig is indoors and thats a disaster. POD get s turfed. "for a more simple set up" It would be nice to have a magic output that just resolved the playback issues for you kind of like your own personal tech! I am sure it is not impossible and it would cost more. The unit will be great for practice, then great for recording , then great for live in various locations. All different spaces. We live on a planet that has an atmosphere and we have developed ears out of survival to locate danger and track food. A sound transmits across air molecules under pressure and is called a vibration. crack of lightening for example. It'l continue, rolling thunder. When a sound hits a shiny hard barrier it further ratifies. rumbles. Well we are getting a global EQ and that is the solution!
  7. Yeah really cool playing and tones! Well Done! The drums sound really crisp. Whats the secret?
  8. Was probably trying to operate it with his hand. When I first got mine I thought the switch was faulty. It is quite a press required to engage the toe switch! LOL
  9. I am glad for you. Though, make no mistake there is a computer inside albeit dedicated, well housed and versatile for most needs. I am sure you will get your moneys worth! Congrats and welcome to the fold
  10. Do you have any other sound cards beside the onboard realtec ones? They are not a pro sound card and are not true full duplex, (in and out at the same time.) Check Monkey is up to date Make sure you don't have ASIO 4 on your computer Finally, it might be a driver thing with line 6.In thaqt while the device is connected it over rides other ins and outs.
  11. Yeah me too. I'm hanging around like a fly around a bucket of prawns(shrimps) LOL
  12. Thanks for the answers. I was interested as a desk could be API or a Neve and could color in a nice way the sound. You also might like to try s/pdif out of the POD into your 1010 s/pdif in (75ohm rca or video cable)and save doubling up the ADDA conversion set. There are is/pdif level settings in the menu too. While purely a personal choice; for demoing the less impedimentia you have the truer the representation. Only a suggestion. Keep up the good work.
  13. Great production and great realistic patches.! And always nice to hear a South African voice.! Just a quick question about the recording chain. XLR into what desk, any gain? any EQ or FX going in and how did you interface to record it? Great work!
  14. Well it aint no Kemper rig, but I am grateful Line 6 is still supporting us, after all we are potential Variaxe (note correct spelling) customers. Duncann, I totally get how great your idea would be, especially for midi bank control recording. But the EQ will be easier to tweak on board with the 4 display knobs being utilized, Tweak the EQ between rhythm and lead patches instead of running into an EQ in your seqencer which I rarely do incidentally; preferring to nail the tone in the HD500 and why your idea would be great to me. Sometimes it is good to manually change a setting rather then set and forget as itt tunes your ears and your ears are more in tune for good tonal separation in the mix.
  15. I always liked this guys approach to metal and explains some of the tweaks as he goes which will help. He has a couple of others too worth checking out. Ambiernt tones etc
  16. If I lived in Whook Whook (any out of the way place) and the net was my only source I'd have to go by youtube shoot outs and the like to help make a purchasing decision, but more then likely I'd be influenced by the guitar music and gear forums I subscribed to where hype is now an important marketing stratedgy. A natural fan base creates a certain espirit de corps and gets confused as hype and as such a dirty word. You can think of plenty. The user base if happy support their product with goodwill and defense. As in this thread KPA, Fractal etc Some step over the line for lack of game claiming Mac is better then PC or Eleven Rack is better than the POD HD. Whom you mix with will have a bearing on what you consider cool. This is very valuable to any company. Some think they can artificially create it but it only exists based upon a contented user base. Rivalry makes a game and is natural. Marketing hype is rah rah about a new product either about to be released or only recently released. This is hype and is a business model for some shall we say plugin producers and gets mistaken as how to Market a new line, "create hype around it". It is easy to detect and is already a valid marketing method. Your employees join popular forums. Each might have several login identies. Login A says something, his alter ego login B might refute log A others join in as a thread develops and it only takes two users with 4 or more login accounts to completely get some Product X is the new cool. This may seem cynical but it exists more than is apparent. Don't be fooled and never base a purchasing decision on a forum. Ask for recommendations and a bunch of products will get mentioned some of which you may not of known or could be worth checking out and demoing. Do proper demos of your product. AB them.
  17. Yes this is exactly why it is needed no two rooms are the same the EQ will make this product more professional. it might even work when going from amps to s/pdif recording as usually I have a separate bank for live amps . Totally agree. this is the basic requirements for an EQ and lets face it near any man and his dog can write EQ plugin code. It would be nice to have one on the presets that can be configured either with a smooth or a more drastic response close to be able to mangle a sound if desired.
  18. Thanks for the clarification. Its nice to know what we are getting dispelling any mystery. I'm excited!!! And Well done utilizing the LCD display knobs. This EQ will certainly be able to correct room changes- might be an idea to sell a room correction app for the android and phone that reads a white and pink noise generated from the phone thru the PA and makes a note of standing waves and ratification peaks! Kept simple it would be usable Inevitably it will get used to replace an EQ and free up some space for guys at home, which is okay but clearly not why it is implimented.
  19. That is a great idea especially the way it is falling. The other way could be to purchase $US in Pay Pal. Can I pay Line 6 with paypal? No can't do that. Perhaps prepay by credit card befor the dollar drops here! Somehow? True, but I think once the firmware and packs come out we'll be happy. It is the waiting that brings out the doubts and reservations
  20. Last year they had a great special bungle buy. I am sure they'll deliver another, so Line 6 for those willing to wait. LOL
  21. LOL If you like IRs the HDs can be run on a pre amp model or amp cab switched off by selecting combo etc. Then in your DAW of choice use an IR loader and download from the net(plenty of free cab IRs. Not so good for Live I found the cab models in the HD500 to be pretty good but it is near two years now since I got mine, I might check it out again. There may be better higher res IRs out there. If you have any links let me knoiw. Cheers
  22. Oh I get it it. I didn't get it on the other thread or the idea scale but here I get it. Interesting idea! My guess is it will be in the mixer block but linked to the end of the chain. that is my preference but your option would be good too!

    Hd500 Midi

The hard part is mapping the midi channels of which there are 128 in general midi. The POD HD 500 has the exp pedal as the only continuous midi data and the rest are on off type messages. Here is a video for midi to and from the HD500
  24. Hiya guys, First of all Kudos to Line 6 for continuing support and improvement of the POD HDs! Well Done Line6 I was inspired to put this up after the Looper FS5 idea from radatats If you edit via the onboard controls you'l notice an inefficiency. Most of the EQs and FX require cursor and knob 4 to adjust the parameter value. It must of been an oversight at the time as the remaining display knobs are not utilized except for the Amp and cab sub menu. This has probably been requested already as it is fairly common sense and with the Global EQ I thought it is never too late! Your welcome to vote it up. Cheers http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/EQ-controlled-by-all-display-knobs/688232-23508
  25. My guess is it will be in the menu page with on off or flat no effect. Ideally it would really cool controlled from the menu knobs. 1st knob selected the band and the three others were for its freq Q and db. It would be cool if some of the other FX parameters worked this way rather than cursor and knob 4 use all the knobs like under the amp menu Added to idea scale, please put in a vote http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/EQ-controlled-by-all-display-knobs/688232-23508
