  1. Thanks for this. Can certainly hear the buzzing. It's pretty nasty, but also sounds like it would be tamable. What are your pickups?
  2. I can confirm that I do not have this problem. I let edit run, with the pod connected to usb and turned on, for about an hour. The memory never went above 33MB. It must something system unique, but unfortunately that doesn't narrow things down. You said you disconnected USB. Does this mean you have the same problem when you run HD Edit in offline mode? And how quickly does this happen?
  3. Thanks for all your work on this. During your testing, was there anything to indicate that the res level is structured off of fixed frequency points, or could there be an algorithm to pick which frequencies it's amplifying? Frequencies that might already stand out or have a slightly higher level than adjacent ones within a given resolution. This might have the effect of uniquely amplifying each amp/cab/mic differently, in which case picking flat response subjects might not be telling the whole story. Or, another way to put that would be, if you did partial tests on more than one amp/cab/mic, was increasing the res level always operating on the same frequencies, independent of the amp/cab/mic selection? But, if you don't know the answer, please don't measure more unless you really really like the tedious, mind-numbingly boring work I imagine this would take. Super grateful to you for taking your time for what you've done already. Thanks.
  4. While this is a true statement, I can think of one situation where it is not true. It is not possible to use the DSP capacity to its limit when you still have DSP left but have used up all the FX blocks. I really appreciate Line 6 giving users this flexible ability, but it would be even better if they could extend this on their next product by having a dynamic number of FX blocks, much like DSP usage is dynamic.
  5. Don't things like the neck finish change over time? My JEM had a nice smooth, glidy, satin finish when it was new. After about a year it is now glossy with natural skin oils, and not as smooth either because of that. You can take some really fine grit sandpaper to it though.
  6. Anyone have any idea what pickups these samples are played through, and what position and/or combination?

    Firmware 2.6

    Here they are: default.setlist.hd500x.2.60.00.Variax.zip
  8. Or better yet, grab a portable version of another browser.
  9. I'm pretty sure it is called 'Variax'.

    Firmware 2.6

Lo Cut: 20Hz Low: 150Hz Mid: 1.8KHz High: 8.0KHz High Cut: 20Khz All Qs are 0.7 All Gains are 0.0dB The EQ defaults to ON. To get the default values back you can also do a global reset, but that's kind of a pain.
  11. The left xlr would output the left channel of the patch if the patch is stereo. To make the patch mono, put something like a noise gate at the very end of the signal chain.
  12. You can add that the new EQ works with the spdif output as well.
  13. Did you update the usb firmware to 1.04? Not to be confused with the flash memory 2.60 update. Other than that, I would contact line 6 about this. I would think this is something they can easily fix, and they should too.
  14. Well, these steps aren't mandatory, but it doesn't take very long to do both steps and doing them decreases the possibility of unexplained behavior from the pod. In the case of a reboot logo situation, you really have no choice but to try a global reset anyway.
  15. One simply models a power amp section, the other doesn't. The same model of an amp, pre vs non-pre, have different sound characters as well. Try them out, you might find you prefer a pre version over the non-pre.

    Firmware 2.6

I noticed the usb firmware was updated from 1.01 to 1.04. Wonder what it fixes, if anything.
  17. If the new 3-band parametric EQ is the same as the current parametric EQ, the last band, or freq at 100%, is 4500Hz. I do know the new EQ is in Hz and dB instead of percentages. So we will know soon I'm sure. There is post on this forum somewhere (new or old, not sure), where someone (the name is on the tip of my tongue, damnit), made a bunch of graphs detailing all the EQs in the pod. Found the forum post: http://line6.com/support/topic/335-frequency-response-graphs-for-hd500-eqs/
  18. The resonance at zero is really nothing more than a preference. If it sounds good to you either way then go with it. I find myself liking the resonance around 60-80 in most cases. It adds a hard-edged, aggressive character to the tone. But it also kind of depends on the type of music. As others have said, when the resonance is at zero, it's closer to an unprocessed impulse response. It has a much smoother character. The use of this control also affects the overall volume. I use dual cabs for most of my stuff, especially the lead tones. And I have heard, at times, the phasing/comb filter you mentioned earlier. On a guitar track all by its lonesome it might be noticeable, but effects like this can be effectively buried in a busy mix, or possibly even used to an advantage somehow.
  19. I'll echo the dumping of the 300 and 400 idea. If you want something that's comparable to them, is newer, and doesn't take a lot of time to tweak, maybe consider the amplifi or firehawk. But I've never used either so... If you go with the 500x be prepared to spend some time getting it to sound like you want though, and probably some time being frustrated. I use the 500x for bass and guitar. While I find making patches for guitar easier than for bass, I've been pretty satisfied with the 500x for bass sounds. There are two bass amps/cabs currently, but you're also not restricted in using other amps/cabs if sounds good. Plus, any day now, there will be a new bass amp pack for purchase with the new firmware upgrade (free).
  20. Ok. This is interesting. It's not just the treadplate. I tried most of the amps, and they all exhibit this behavior to some degree. What I did was crank the mixer levels and centered the mixer pans. Left everything else at default. Then I just kept trying different amps and setting the ch vol to zero. In most cases, the signal is so weak (somewhere around -54dB to -42dB, and remember the mixer is cranked too) that it might as well not be there. I should also say I used headphones. It is also possible to get no bleeding signal by either turning the gain and ch vol to zero, turning the master dep and ch vol to zero, or turning the gain, ch vol and master dep to zero. The pre versions of the amps are also like this. As silverhead says, it's out of your control.
  21. Do you have the amp on one of the paths, A or B, with an empty amp on the other, opposite path? If so, it's possible the unwanted signal is coming from the path with the empty amp, depending on the input source settings, pre-amp effects, and/or mixer settings. So how does your signal chain look?
  22. A while back, I put up an Ideascale post that asks for this. Since the new firmware will effectively, and partially, have a new fixed EQ block, which is a 3 band parametric with high and low filters, being able to save the values on a patch by patch basis would be like getting three more FX blocks per patch, because it would take three of the current parametric EQs to equal the one new fixed, or global, or whatever name might be better, EQ.
  23. Used to play in a cover band late 80s, early 90s. Lots of fun. The 7vwh I have is a '13 model. Really nice guitar. I've always had a preference for Ibanez. Also have an american master, which is very similar to the jem except for it has an aanj neck. I played the 70V not too long ago, and I did really like the 400mm fretboard. Nice and flat, accurate. But I liked the 7v better. Two patches in the zip file. One of them has the amps removed For the easiest conversion, you can just drag and drop the file into the patch location you want. radiative.embrace.zip
  24. LOL. Did you ever consider using a usb-to-midi from a laptop to the pod during live performance? Only problem with that would be timing it exactly when the live performace starts. Zip the file and post it as an attachment to a reply if you want. Can never hurt to see how other people use their pods; an opportunity to learn something. I wrote a song called Radiative Embrace that uses the tron up (effect kicks in around 1:20). Don't know how it compares to other real auto-wahs, as I've never played through anything other. I definitely like the effect though, had a lot of fun with it. I'd say the effect is far from stinky. If you want the patch I can post it here, but it's for an hd500x that likely won't work on an hd500 as it doesn't have enough dsp.
