  1. There are some things Native wouldn't show, like Variax settings.

    Glenn Delaune

This may be a dumb question but given how bad you say they are, are you using his IR's? They are critical for his patches. You have to make sure you are using the correct IR for the correct patch.
  3. Back in the '70's there was only one major guitar magazine (Guitar Player) and they definitely had the attitude that you HAD to learn to read music on the guitar to be a "real" guitar player and since they were a "serious" magazine there were NO tabulatures of anything on a regular basis. Maybe once every three years there was something. Pompous bastiges. I'm so jealous of you kids these days. There was only ONE rock guitar instruction book available that I could find that was any good and it had tab. Definitely no books with whole albums tabbed let alone anything else rock. There was a Mel Bay book or two but it was no tab and your basic Mary Had A Little Lamb type stuff. The rock guitar book was called "Improvising Rock Guitar" by Glenn Hughes and is still available if you want to experience the only thing we had at the time. They took a guitar player (Pat Thrall before he played with Pat Travers) and filmed him playing. They then analyzed the film to make an accurate tab of what he did. When they first published the book, Hendrix was on the cover and it was full of rock guitar player pics. When Pat Thrall became well known, they replaced all of those pics with pictures of him. He played an SG at the time for the book and that was a big reason my first electric guitar was an SG. That and the picture of Terry Kath in the CTA album playing one. Terry was a big influence on me. It's nice to see him finally get the recognition he deserves. Going back to the '70's again, there was only ONE serious article about him printed that I could find (believe me, I looked) and it was in Guitar Player. JUST ONE! Clapton, Page, Hendrix. Plenty. Kath...One. OK I'm back from my little stroll down memory lane. Hope I didn't bore anyone too much.
  4. If anyone is interested, I purchased these for all of the footswtches. So instead of $108 like the ones first mentioned, it was $27. They do NOT have the set screws. They do fit very snuggly. I've put it in the Helix backpack and all of the footswitches stayed in place. I ordered the black ones and you can see the LED rings with them on. I like them. Don't know how long they'll last though. I think as long as I don't take them off and on repeatedly, they should last awhile.
  5. One thing to try, with your setup, is to get your sound without the IRs or cabs. Then actually start adding cabs. In earlier Line 6 modelers I would do this. A way to think about it is you're just adding an interesting EQ curve to the sound. About 2/3 of the time it will suck. But every now and then you will be pleasantly surprised. Just another way to have sonic fun with this. You will quickly go through a variety of characters of sounds. This is to be tried more when you're in the mood to experiment and not when you're trying to get the perfect sound.
  6. If you move it after first engaging it, does it then act normal or does it do this everytime you sweep through it?
  7. That's a great idea. I keep forgetting about that option. Using two feet doesn't work too well. I was going to maybe come up with some kind of contraption like what Mr Scholz did but I think this will work just as well with much less thinking and effort.
  8. I would like to be able to save the parameters of any FX, amps, cabs etc so that every time I call them up, the default settings are mine. It would save me some time.
  9. I have a separate expression pedal aside from the internal one on the floor Helix. Use either the Cosmos Echo or the Transistor Tape delays. Put which ever one you choose before a Marshall amp. Assign one expression pedal to the Feedback and one to the Delay time. Use both feet and enjoy the sonic fun. This is essentially what Tom Sholz of Boston does with his Echo unit to turn it into his "Hyperspace" pedal. You will eventually need to adjust the min and max amounts for the pedals (like reversing the min and max for the delay i.e. make the min the max amount and the max the min amount) but this will give you an idea of what this does.
  10. That cracks me up. I have a friend who had a Space Echo and since at one time, there was nobody offering a replacement for the tape loop, he made one himself by...wait for it...splicing one together. And you could hear the splice where I don't recall ever hearing one before that. It'll be fun to see if it actually recreates that.
  11. ENNUI?!?!?! What the heck does that mean? One quick internet search later..... Hey! I learned a new word today. ENNUI. And I thought I knew everything.......... Well now I do. And since I'm at work on this day, it describes me.
  12. I guess I was thinking since this was a major recoding of the Helix platform (am I using the right terms?) that it would require this to be installed before you would be able to upgrade to 3.0. But you're right about all of the other upgrades for Line 6 products that I know of. They were comprehensive. Hmmmm. Maybe he doesn't have to upgrade now. But he'd better, else he invoke the wrath of us who install 10 seconds after the upgrade is available!!!!! ;)
  13. I'm sorry, I meant to say don't know why you wouldn't update. Eventually. The 3.0 upgrade will require it. I sensed no pain/hurt in any of the posts. They (and I) are merely commenting on your comment. No emotion involved at all in my case.
  14. I do understand what you are saying. I was slightly underwhelmed at the new stuff. But I wouldn't go so far as to say they are more of the same. They are an expansion of the palette and despite the abundance of Marshalls the Helix has, this new one (I guess three although they are just different channels) gave me a tone I couldn't quite get with what's in the Helix now. I was hoping for at least one new reverb though I believe they are slated for the big 3.0 update. I guess you could look at it this way. This update is to get all of the Helix platforms ready for the 3.0 update. In the meantime they threw in some things that were already done. They could have just waited and not given us any of these things. Just prepared the platforms. But we got a taste. I too am hoping for more hi gain. Like a Diezel. So go ahead and upgrade. You're going to need it for 3.0. Besides, you can roll the Helix back. But since it sounds the same, just more stuff, I'm not quite sure why you wouldn't.
  15. I really like that you can adjust the parameters of the blocks from the keyboard arrows. What I don't like is the up and down arrows are the ones that control the left to right motion of the sliders, and the left to right arrows control the up and down movement of the "focus". I get that the levels themselves are going up and down numerically but when the sliders go left and right, for me it's counter intuitive. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but for now I keep hitting the wrong arrow.
  16. Interesting. I havent' done the upgrade yet (stil at work :( ). I was never that impressed with the Vetta version so I'm looking forward to checking this one out.
  17. The first thing to do when this happens after what you've done, is to try a different USB port. If you're using a hub, STOP using it. The updates don't like hubs. If it still doesn't work, try to find another computer to do it on.
  18. I wonder if the stereo doubler (Modulation > Double Take (Mono, Stereo), Line 6 Original doubler) Is the double tracker from the Vetta. If it is, here's some info on what it does. It had 3 controls Timing, Pitch and Dynamics to simulate two guitars. TIMING controls just how tightly the ‘virtual’ second guitarist will track to your playing. We also sometimes refer to this as the ‘Drunk’ knob, since the farther up you turn it, the more beers that other guitarist has had. PITCH controls the amount of pitch variance between you and your virtual partner. Like the Timing knob, radical settings on this might make you wish you could fire the ‘other’ guitar player, or at least get them to play a guitar with decent intonation. DYNAMICS controls how well that second guitarist matches your picking dynamics. A rule of thumb is, since high gain sounds tend to be somewhat compressed, the more distortion in the tone, the higher you’ll need to have the Dynamics knob to get the best out of Double Tracker.
  19. I agree. I'm even comparing it to other Line 6 pedals. The XT X3 and HD500.
  20. I keep 'em all. I still have patches from my Pod XT. And I rarely, if ever, go back to 'em. What's wrong with me?

    Cables

I have heard planet waves are good. I've personally used Monster cable. They have a lifetime warranty.
  22. For me the Helix doesn't just sound better, playing wise, it just feels better.
  23. No,I don't think I am doing OK. It WAS an old post. I thought I was on the last page but was on the second page. I will correct it. Thanks for pointing that out. I gotta get some rest or something.
