  1. This is a very grey area....I have no answers, but , I believe there can be legal recourse for misuse of commercial IR s, but I don't know how often or if it has ever really occurred...but in a perfect world, any musician would try to respect the I.P. of their fellow content creators, but we know how perfect this world is. this situation is compounded over in the Fractal world, where IR management/creation/mixing is much more evolved, and one can create an IR mix from numerous sources, commercial or not, rename it what they will, and export a Preset bundle with the newly created (stolen?) IR baked in, and share, sell or whatever. (DISCLAIMER here..not I, ever.). sometimes I wonder if the cumbersome IR management in Helix was implemented partly to discourage this behavior..........
  2. Your frustration is justified, IMO, the install protocol is absolutely one of the weak links in the helix chain, seemingly unnecessarily convoluted, especially involving preset/Ir saving/restoring.,I believe it will be attended to at some point , cause too many people get screwed by it.
  3. yup....i am a well-meaning fool.....
  4. Zooey, I just realized we may not be talking about the same amp and preset..! at 5:30, Cooper is indeed talking about and playing the USA Lead, NOT the Shiva, as I thought from the video screenshot..my apologies...Shiver Lead is at 7:20... USA Lead is indeed a Mesa MK IV
  5. ..I didn't notice the pointer , so I just scanned till I got to Shiva and listened to the entire segment, which did include the detune..you are more interested in the pure hi-gain tone I guess.
  6. One of the things that may distinguish the AXEfx Shiva patch tone that Im playing with right now (the exact one that Cooper used in the vid, but many firmwares newer as that clip is several years old), is the Plex Detune effect that is used (it is a Multidelay block) , that I am unclear how or if its possible to do in Helix..that goes a long way to creating that "airbrushed" type of effect. If anybody has any insight to that, it would be helpful to us to see if I can get that thing happening...
  7. I will attempt to do an A/B between the the AxeFx Shiva (it is one of the favorites on the Axe) and Helix Mahadeva at some point and see if I can get them close, using the same IR.
  8. Shiver lead is based on a 20th Anniversary Bogner Shiva, not any Mesa. Here is the write up from the FAS wiki SHIVER CLEAN (based on Bogner Shiva 20th Anniversary) Shiva.png Based on: Bogner Shiva Clean, 20th Anniversary model with KT88 tubes. A sweet, rich-sounding amp with powerful shimmering cleans and aggressive, English-style midrange punch. Suggested cabs: Classic 80, V30. Stock cab(s): 1x12 Shiver. Original controls Clean channel: Volume, Bass, Treble, Bright switch (less to none effective the higher Drive is set). Original controls Lead channel: Gain, Bass, Middle, Treble, Bright switch (less effective the higher Drive is set but still noticeable). Sharde controls: Master, Presence. "Boost" and "Shift" controls have not been modeled (use Input Trim as Boost). Cliff's comments: "People think Bogners are dark but they really aren't. The reason they seem that way is the pot tapers. Most people assume knobs should be set somewhere around noon. If you do this on a Bogner it's like turning the treble way down on a Marshall. Close your eyes and adjust the tone controls with your ears. Don't be afraid to turn them way up or way down." source "Human nature is to put the knobs near noon. We are reticent to deviate much from noon. Amp designers exploit this and use different tapers to change the sound of their amps WITH THE KNOBS AT NOON. A prime example are Bogner amps. Everyone says "Bogner amps are dark". No they aren't. But he uses a Log10A taper for the treble pot. It's a standard Marshall tone stack. Usually a linear taper pot is used for the treble. The treble knob at 5.0 (noon) on a Bogner is equivalent to the treble knob at 1.0 on a Marshall. People put the knob at 5.0 and go "wow, this amp is dark". No it isn't. If you turned the treble up to 8 or 9 it would sound a lot like a Plexi but humans are reticent to turn the knobs to extremes. Amp designers know this and exploit it to give their amps a "signature sound"." source "The original Shiva models were based on a borrowed amp. We now have a 20th Anniversary Shiva (with KT88s) and the new models are based on that amp. We did notice that this amp has less gain than the one used originally but the model is faithful to the amp." source
  9. Glad it worked for ya, sorta thought it would.
  10. I find the Sigma IR s to be extremely nasal and the Redwirz are oldish tech , I would recommend you give the recent Ownhammer Mesa IRs a shot, they really put life in helix amps, specifically the California Duo at Www.ownhammer.com
  11. I easily found Datacommando by searching BY MEMBER at the top of the forum page, if you are logged in. But I don't know specifically what you are trying to locate, I would give it another go, he has lots of content to sort thru...
  12. ...it would have been stated as a challenge or a bet if it had been that obsessive dude....

    lollipop!

    At-hey is-hey ucked-up fey
  14. the unholy bonding of Helix and AX8 is capable of truly heavenly toneage.from my personal experience.
  15. My understanding is the Holdsworth family is very financially strapped, and I felt honored to contribute to the GofundMe.

My pleasure..once you get over the minor glitches and learn how to route it properly, it is very usable indeed, and hope that it catches on so they will continue development!
  17. IMO, the generous I/O of the original is what really makes it special as a hub for other equipment and loops, so in your case, it would be best, methinks.
  18. Its not ideal. but you could run two parallel amp/cabs and put a simple delay after one of them with 100% mix, and a very short (around 18-20 ms) with 0 feedback, and it sorta works......there is probably a more convoluted way to emulate a Haas doubling effect within helix, but this is quick and dirty.
  19. And most likely, you will never get specifics on what the under-the-hood changes for the better occur with the modeling engine for the simple fact that each company has proprietary algos and techniques that need to remain secret to protect intellectual property etc... but DI did state that each FW contains these mystery tweaks, that to MY ears, at least, contain audible differences, mostly for the better.
  20. A sound system made possible by the distribution of millions of tabs of acid.....(well done Mr. Owsley)
  21. I got confused too...see ya on the FAS forum............
  22. good question...easily done on the original..........not sure about the new LT
  23. Hawk, I'm with you , IMO, of all the innovative hardware implementation of Helix, the pedal is a weak link., if convenient. I like more sweep and the positioning makes for instability of the unit in certain cases. I still love the integration of my Fractal stuff with Helix....best o both worlds (apologies Mr. HAgar)....sorry u missed the latest FW update here it's awesome , but Cliff will have another 3or 4 for your AXFX next week......
