    Tube amps Gone?

That Triptik is a keeper every time.....Alan is some kind of genius.
  2. Wow....have you been peeking at my IR collection?...and stealing my ears? Your assessments are exactly as mine.....though I am currently having a love affair with the Celestion plus collections, my Orange, OH SP 1/2 and WOlverine mixes never gEt bumped from my woefully insufficient IR collection inside the helix........Cmon L6', ya know we need a few hundred more slots onboard........

  4. last night at City Winery in Chicago, a brilliant set by fusion legend Jean Luc Ponty and his awesome quartet was bolstered by the use of Helix in the FX loop of guitarist Jamie Glaser's amp. his tone had a lot of highEQ cut, which I felt was just right for the FOH mix , seeing that Ponty's violin took care of that portion of the spectrum. Sorry, no pics or vid, but take my word for it, great show.
  5. Too bad ....still the best jazz funk jam Latin stew I ever saw/heard....the green mill gigs were always special.
  6. ........hope the session is for Chevere....you may be best going straight into the board, depending on the project and the whim of the producer.

    4CM, 4CM+1 & WDW

This video is filled with good ideas presented very well, several of which I had not considered before. Thanks for posting this. Dude looks a little young to be in BOC though........
  8. Think you got things backward.....
  9. ....I just did a perfunctory search for the specifics of the Quad core DSP in HeadrUsh and came up pretty empty, the closest I got was on their site saying it was..."purpose-built", no mention anywhere of manufacturer, or specs of any kind.....This whole rollout seems to me,..a bit ........dare I say...hinky..?
  10. I got both units (helix and AFXIi XL +.). You will be able to to just about anything in snapshots that you could in Scenes except for x/y functions. I'm not clear if you can get the same functionality from your Mission pedal on Helix, but probably so. if you are familiar with Fremen's presets for FAS, you may find using his Helix presets (especially his 4-snapshots) as a comfortable transition to start. You are likely aware that your amp/cab/fx choices will not be nearly as extensive with Helix, but for gigging and church , you will find it pretty easy to find tones that will satisfy you, and between the new excellent firmwares and the ease of tweaking the unit, both on the hardware and software editor, IMO makes up for the lessened palette . The diff between helix and LT is in the number of in/outs and the lack of scribble strips for each foot switch, identical inall sonic aspects. Best o luck in your quest. ...also I should note that the lack of xy functions can be mitigated by the ability to to use multiple instances of any block (up to the CPU limit) and turn them on/off as needed thru snapshots or foot switches.
  11. 1: either will sound fine, XLR will allow to use the 1/4outs for other purposes. 2: If you have an audio interface that you like, use it, it may increase the versatility of Helix with other gear but if not, Helix is a fairly capable interface for direct out and the USB ins/out can be very useful for reamping, routing to other processors, etc.
  12. If you are more of a guitarist than a keyboard guy, you could bypass the Korg altogether and control your synth thru the MIDI Guitar 2 app, that will host your synth, and you can send it a clean signal from Helix USB 7 and you are rocking. http://jamorigin.com
  13. Made my day with this post. Another assurance that we geezers (I'll be 63 in a couple weeks) still sorta rule the rock roost, such as it is. I've got to get up to the Tampa/St Pete area soon, as it seems the live rock scene there is not yet moribund, as it has somewhat become down here in Miami/Dade.
  14. I made a recent discovery that may benefit Helix users who have a Mac or other touchscreen-crippled computer, the cross-platform Duet Display, which seamlessly turns your tablet into an additional screen on your Computer (via USB) that can be controlled either by your mouse/trackwhatever, or by touch, and I've found that the touch responsiveness of the HELIX app used in fullscreen on my iPad next to my MacBook Pro gives me the welcome illusion that we actually have a tablet App available to us.... a tethered one. 15. Funny, tho I've had it on my Macs since its inception, never really used it as Logic was better for my needs, but in a live context, makes perfect sense . You could also incorporate Midi guitar in that scenario.
  16. While on the Helix Native thread just now , I brought up the option of the great app Midi Guitar 2 as a potentially excellent host for Native for either Mac or Windoze, which led a minor revelation I had about how to use Helix itself in a cool fashion with the app...I created a patch in Midi Guitar with Helix USB 7 as the input and USB 7/8 as the output, and the newish MODO Bass from IK as the AU plugin hosted in the app. I then made a corresponding patch in Helix with Path one as a standard Multi input for my Variax with dist, Amp/IR and delay, and Path two was from USB 7/8 in , and the Darkglass drive and a couple other FX.. mixed them panned hard L/R on the Output block so I had awesome distorted bass in my left monitor and my effected guitar in right. worked flawlessly with virtually no latency... good clean fun in the days of modern guitar tech . HTTP://WWW.JAMORIGIN.COM. if you wanna check out the demo of midi guitar 2
  17. I'm thinking for those who are looking for a non-DAW solution for hosting Native, that Midi Guitar 2 would be be a viable, and , depending on your interest in having any midi or sampled tones at your fingertips to blend with your Helix tones, potentially great fun. I already do this with Bias and other Mac guitar sims, but Midi guitar is cross-platform, and a very solid VST or AU host in addition to its midi conversion and tracking skills. http://www.jamorigin.com
  18. IMO, these Redbacks are amongst the best Ive used for higher gain patches on Helix , extremely tight with no fizz at any level, and loud cleans sound amazing. they also translate very well to all modeler formats..
  19. They are excellent so far...and translate well across various modelers and amp sims , and damn straight we need more user IR slots.
  20. More slots and better management, please
