Dagnabbit I tried a variax guitar today
shredjsx replied to shredjsx's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Thank you guys.... Talking to guitar center about trading in my G&L Semi hollow blues boy and my Epiphone ES339 Ultra for it -
Be honest with me guys I have very expensive taste and guitars my main guitar is an ESP with Seymour Duncan pick ups. My second guitar is an Epiphone ES 339with built-in acoustic pick ups. My third guitar of the many is a G and L blues boy I tried the Variax 69 There is also a 59 I was impressed because it did pinch harmonic very well. The sounds out of that were incredible. What is the quality of this guitar What is the true quality of this guitar will it hold up to being my main guitar. How good are the electronics will they last being used constantly . What is the warranty like . I play a lot of heavy metal I love leads with harmonic pinches. I am basically a van Halen 80s rocker that also plays classic blues, southern and new metal... Can these hold up? I'm gonna trade my Epiphone and G&L for it. Versatility, the 69 or 59.... Please answer me as soon as possible guys I could only get this for a short time for $699 new

How to I get the wah settings to not treble out and bite so hard on the high side? Puts my teeth on edge

Neat, great knowledge of the full use of the HD500, But too complicated for live use

Can't get great dirty and distorted sounds with semi hollow guitar

Cool I'll try that too... I actually set up most of my patches with my hollow as well as I have a acoustic pickup in it too and I want it to ring with no squeal... Great idea... Then I switch to my main guitar, my ESPii ST-1 with Seymour Duncan's in it and it sound great... Great suggestion -
Cool, one of the guys on here created some awesome sounding synth and piano patches I want to try... Thanks you

I have the hd500x I noticed that the file type was different for hd500 patches Can I use them?
-
Make sure your HD500 is set to studio direct out... Also Lower the input gain on the PA mixer or you'll fuzz and clip the heck out of the PA mixer... Or just get a L3t lol

I just setup a basic setting with my volume and wag up front, then just change the amps and save each patch pet amp I want to use the same... I always have my effects in the same place I would put them is I have them on the floor so I won't have to label them... Consistency Pedal 1 Dist or gain pedal, 2 mod, 3 mid or Delay, 4 reverb -

Did you adjust the input gain switch to compensate for the heavier push from the high output EMG pickups? I had to on my Torero... Switch it back to low for your hollow body, I noticed that too on my ES339... That should take care of it. Also, if your ears are used to the easy breakup and scream of the emgs Passive pickups are not gonna sound right... Raise the pickups Raise the overdrive or gain Boost the presence and treble and it should fix your issue... Or, another idea would be to put a compressor in the chain right in front if the guitar.... That actually might fix all of your issues -
I've noticed, honestly, that the cabs sound best only with the Amp patch that they are default to... Which does kinda suck.., Except for the 75 Celestion copy cabinet and the early breakup on the greenback 25..., Those I will use with other amps... But for the most part, changing cabs on the preset amps doesn't do what it should... But I also think it's what our ear is used too... I prefer a 6l6 for warm overdriven tones, So my amp and cab I'd choice is the Soldono and the Greenback 25... I'm also a hard Marshall Growl fan, so the 2204 and the 75 cab to me are the best.... The Bassman is awesome too... The tread plate is two treblely for me... I think, for the ability to have thousands is dollars in amps for around 600 is increadable and worth a little tweek time...
-
I run it direct into my L3t or PC with the studio/ line level settings... I don't use the amp out settings as I also run it through the PA at gigs and practice.... It's clearer and more responsive IMHO

You know I've never, no matter how hard I've tried, bern able to get a tube screamer to sound good in front of my amps... However I love the screamer in the HD500, it just seems to boost the amps tone and drive it a little harder... I like your blues setting... I found though that the Jazz Rivera , or rather the clean jazz amp works great with a Tube drive, or a screamer in front of it... I created a patch under Jazz TD and Jazz CD, user name Shredjsx lemme know what you think
-
Wow, cool thank you, the most I have done is create a synth that makes my guitar sound like a bass... I love it... I'm now jonsin for a variax..,. Though I'm on the fence as I love my straight guitars and know how to tweek with them

Is there a way I can get them to you?

Plus I want them user friendly, not too complicated so you can gig with them and make quick adjustments on the fly... So they will probably be A/B/C/D patches, clean, gain, overdrive and lead for each Then I'll finish my own patch which I've been working on for a while which consists of a clean and a fully overdriven amp working in succession to give you a great scream clarity and feedback... I just needs close to HR2 effect to complete them... Any ideas... -

Because I'll tell you what no matter what I set up if it sounds great the minute I turn on that harmonist it just makes it sound to hundred percent better. I'm currently dialing in a true Van Halen tone without using any distortion pedals just the amp. I'll be working on a George Lynch, a Chris Degarmo and a Petrucci patch next... If you can get the sound you need out of the amp, it sound more pure... -

So I've set up some patches to run my effects loop and run my HR to through them but I would like to give some custom tone patches to people for the ones that I work on what line 6 effect in my HD 500 would you suggest they could get me close to that harmonist -
