Pedal Python works like a champ! So simple but so much cleaner!
-
Went with the Pedal Python, should be getting it today! Could've built my own with similar pieces but would've been close to the same price without a lifetime warranty ;)

I just picked up a new amp and will be running it in 4CM with the HD500. Up until now I've been mainly using the HD500 straight into the FX return so setup for a show was easy - dealing with 4 (or 5 if I decide to use the amp footswitch too) is making me nervous :P . Would love to see or read about how you deal with it? I've looked at the PedalSnake but it's pricy. Pedal Python also looks interesting. I've tried zip tie/velcro tying cables together before and it still seemed pretty clunky. Maybe I've just too OCD about it. :D

No speakers are ever truly flat response. Add to that the effect the room will have on every speaker and you end up with this basic idea: If the full range speakers sound good with your gear in the rooms you generally play in then you should be good to go. The other thing is you will always need to tweak your patches to the final system and volume (and band) you will be playing in. It's not convenient, it sucks, but that's really the only way. Tweaking on your Altos will get you close, but if you can spend some time tweaking through the church PA will get you the best results.

Do you disable the cabinet modeling when running it in combo power amp mode? That should help quite a bit. For lower volume patches try the full amp model with no cabinet modeling, for loud patches use the pre amp model with no cab modeling. You shouldn't have to change the amp settings much from default to get a good basic sound, perhaps you can try with a friends amp as well to compare?
-
Can't you just run out of the stereo 1/4" outputs and the stereo XLR outputs? Or do you not have cables for those?
-
Are you setting noise to gate to the "off" settings (Decay 100%, Threshold 0%)? That should be pretty transparent. Studio EQ should be pretty good too. If I was running your setup I'd leave it in studio direct. I won't sound quite as good on stage but you should be able to get a workable tone while the FOH (and your audience) will get the best sound.

Sad trombone. Wah wahhh.

What silverhead said. Basically since your amp's preamp is now in the Pod FX Loop, the FX Loop block will represent your amp in your patch. If the FX loop is there and turned on, you'll hear your natural amp sound coming through (plus anything you have setup in the Pod) - if it's not enabled or not in your patch at all then you'll only hear sounds from the Pod.

Yep this! I have setlists for going direct, going to a power amp and going to a power amp at lower volumes.

The correct connection setup is: Guitar > Pod Guitar Input (cable 1) Pod Send > Amp Guitar Input (Cable 2) Amp Send > Pod Return (Cable 3) Pod Left 1/4 Output > Amp Return (Cable 4) To get your amp sound into your preset, make sure to add the FX loop block in the patch. You will have to play with the fx loop levels to get the proper sound You can use clean or dirty sounds from the amp (same as above), but you will have to manually switch channels on the amp with it's footswitch, you can't do it from the Pod (unless the Peavey has midi control)

Jtv-89 "spring" Noise?
dbagchee replied to dbagchee's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I actually listened closely at home without plugging in and realized it actually is the strings above the nut that are resonating. I wrapped a hair tie around them and it did the trick! -
I've noticed while using the magnetic pickups on my JTV-89 that there is a resonant "spring" type noise when I do quick mutes. It sounds just like the springs in my Fender Strat or in my Jackson Floyd where it rings out for a second after muting. I thought it might be the strings above the nut but even if I hold them while muting it is still there. In the past I've put a little gaffer's tape on the springs of those bridges to tighten up the sound....but the JTV-89 doesn't have any springs right? Anyone else run into this or am I losing my mind? These extra noises aren't there when running the modeled pickups.

The sound difference you are describing is textbook Fletcher-Munson curve (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fletcher%E2%80%93Munson_curves). Usually in headphones and at lower volumes in general you will boost the lows to get a beefier sound, as you turn it up to stage volume the same low end get disproportionately louder making it sound way to bassy. I've read a lot of raving reviews about the Alto so I think you should be good there. The key thing is to dial a patch at stage volume through the Alto - maybe you can get to band practice early to dial some stuff in. Whatever tone you get that sounds good at practice with sound thin in headphones or at lower volume. You can definitely get in the ballpark with headphones, just make the EQ adjustments and save a separate patch for that volume.

Jtv Scratch And Dents Lately
dbagchee replied to ajm583's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
My scratch and dent was also what I would consider "brand new". Sweetwater even has hi-res pictures of each actual serial number of guitar you are ordering so you really can't lose. Great bargain if you can grab one. -
A Link For Downloading Hd Jtv89 Bank?

Here you go: http://line6.com/getrelease?rid=5634 -
Is your cab 8ohms? If you are running it bridged mono that should be giving you about 700watts which should be plenty of volume. Are you using the line out and have the output on the Pod turned all the way up? I'm using a different tube amp, but I think either of those should be a good power section for the Pod. Honestly, you probably wouldn't need the 6505 unless you want to have the amp as a backup.

I don't think the Pod HD500 can do midi over usb - see http://line6.com/support/thread/85973

Since you are using a solid state pre, your setup should sound OK - pre amp only may be worth a shot though. The other thing you can play with is the DEP settings - play with master volume, bias and sag and you can get pretty different results.

I just got my JTV-89 yesterday and so far really happy with it (especially after reloading the 89 pickup models back into custom bank 1!). The only slight issue I have is the relative pickup volume between bridge/neck and the coil taps. Position 4 in particular is really quiet and thin, more so than the other coil tap position. It looks like the bridge pickup is raised higher relative to the pickup mounting brackets so I can probably lower it an even it out the overall pickup volumes but I'm wondering more about the sound of position 4. All other positions sound good.
