  1. So in other words your argument is EQ everything for the 0.6% of the audience who happen to be standing directly in front of your cabinet? Do what you like, but all that accomplishes, especially when you're NOT being mic-ed, is that you'll sound wonderful for those select few, and your tone will be a $hit-awful, muddy mess for everyone else in the room. And for what it's worth, I never suggested just throwing any old tone at the sound man, and expecting him to create miracles from a pile of crap...
  2. First of all, EQ is more about cutting what there's too much of, as opposed to boosting what seems lacking...otherwise the result is a muddy tone with too much of everything. That aside...there's exactly one way to set up your patches to cut through a live mix: at gig volume, with the band. That's what rehearsals are for...trying to guess at what adjustments will be needed for a bunch of patches dialed in solo and at bedroom volume, is a colossal waste of time. There are no magic settings that will work for any and all situations...there's no substitute for dialing in patches under the same conditions in which you intend to use them.
  3. Yes, that's true...but it's also what sound guys are for. There is never going to be an all-encompassing solution to this, except not standing right in front the stage...I don't. It's the worst place to be at a show, for exactly that reason. But what good would it do to tweak sounds with my head mashed up against the grill of a cabinet if its not going to stay there? I need to hear myself through the din on stage too...burying myself in muddy tone to the point where I can't hear what I'm doing out of concern for those who insist on being 6" from the stage, will result in a $hitty performance. If the guy at the board does his job (and isn't deaf ;) ), then it's a non-issue for the other 98% of the people in the room anyway... Besides, I don't have a cabinet on stage anymore. Just an L2T pointing up at me, and Helix going straight to the PA. Nobody's getting tinnitus from my rig, lol...
  4. Correct. The only solution is to not engage him, or post in this thread at all (this'll be my last one), even if addressing someone else. Otherwise it'll never end, because you're giving him exactly what he wants: attention.
  5. I'm not gonna dispute any point in particular because this would quickly devolve into a semantic argument, as we're essentially saying the same thing. The physics and technical wizardry that allow these devices to do what they do doesn't concern me...but the practical application thereof, does. And to that end, if one were to take the "real" guitar amp of their choice and run the line out into a powered FRFR speaker, it will sound like a giant pile of fizzy $hit, despite the complete absence of an IR, and no matter how far off axis your head is. The same amp with the same settings through a guitar cabinet, will sound normal. Both scenarios are equally true for a modeler. So why do we need high cuts? FRFR...that's why. Furthermore, since no one sits and plays with their head an inch from the speaker cone, all the talk about the faithful reproduction of captured sounds, dispersion, reflections, etc... while it might be technically "correct", it's really neither here nor there. At the end of the day, if you choose to run FRFR, you'll need high cuts...and if you play through a guitar cabinet, you won't. I've run modelers both ways, and that's how it shakes out.
  6. I love autumn, when the dementia is in full bloom...😂 Can't make this stuff up folks. Belly up to the bar and grab yourself a big mug of crazy... lmao
  7. Not to diminish your experience, and perhaps it really is heating up abnormally. But until it does so on its own, sitting off by itself, I will remain unconvinced. We're warm blooded...98.6°, give or take. Place any inanimate, room temperature object against your mid-section and then proceed to move around with it, and it'll warm up. Do it long enough, and you just might perspire a bit where it's touching you...don't think we're witnessing cold fusion here. ;)
  8. Well I don't want them either...;) But I maintain that they'd probably be easier to get than the relentless request for "inside info" that has never been, and shall not be forthcoming...
  9. The IR's aren't really to blame for the need for hi/low cuts...any FRFR monitoring method (studio reference headphones, FRFR speaker(s), studio monitors, etc) is...Unless you're running through a "real" guitar amp/cab rig, it's the FRFR speakers that are producing frequencies outside the range that a guitar cabinet typically spits out. If you were to run through a "real" amp and cabinet, you would find less of a need to apply those cuts, as the physical limitations of the cabinet would be doing it for you.
  10. That's what kills me about these discussions...nobody knows, except the select few who ain't talking. It's never been any different, and it'll never change. Yet I suspect the same question will continue to be asked until the end of time. Baffling...may as well be asking for nude photos of Ernest Borgnine...;)
  11. Stop ruining our pity-party with logic! My free stuff should have been here by now...;)
  12. If you'd said the guitar had been left plugged in, turned on, and sitting on a stand for a while, and was then hot to the touch when you picked it up, then I'd say there's a problem. Otherwise all that happened is that you pressed a solid object against yourself for an extended period, while engaged in some level of physical activity. Bounce around at rehearsal with a 2x4 slung around your abdomen, and it'll warm up too...
  13. These threads never disappoint...there's nothing more invigorating on a bright clear morning than (yet another) rousing performance of Whiny McMozart's "Firmware's Lament in C minor". ;)

    Wah tone suck

0% is not "off"...it actually has nothing to do with the wah effect at all. It's just a numerical representation of the "heel down" position of the expression pedal which, when controlling a wah effect, is the lower end of the wah's frequency sweep. So that's why the treble vanished...Every wah on earth (modeled or not) will do the same thing to your tone if you leave it turned on, and in that position all the time. Turn it on and off with the expression pedal toe switch, the same as you would with an actual wah pedal.
  15. If it's only been 2 weeks, you should be able to return it and get a replacement...don't screw around with trying to get it fixed if you don't have to.
  16. It's like "Groundhog Day" in here... Congratulations on becoming the 4,389,883rd forum-ite to start a "when are we getting new firmware?" thread. I bet this one turns out to be TOTALLY different from all the others...
  17. Fair enough. So let the "gorilla glass" dude over at Corning design an impenetrable clear-coat. I want my pocket car...;)
  18. If you genuinely want "one sound", then why pursue any gear option that's designed to provide what amounts to a virtually endless list of possibilities? You're just setting yourself up for aggravation...if you didn't like the XT Live, you're not likely to make friends with any of the more current devices either. Not everybody needs a modeler. Buy an AC30...
  19. And I want a car that I can fold up and stick in my pocket so I don't have to pay for parking anymore...
  20. I had initially assumed that this was the same guy with the creepy Andy Summers obsession who'd pestered us all a while back...and now I'm convinced. Oh well, back to ignoring this thread... don't know why I even bothered to give it a second look. Ugh.
  21. Oh goody! This again...I'm gonna beat the Christmas rush and start ignoring this thread now.
