If you want to record... Unplug your monitors and plug your HD into your recorder. Assuming both sets of monitors (guitar monitor and recorder monitor) are true monitors, you are going to have the same tone. Your HD has a simulated amp, a simulated cab, and a simulated mic so that you don't need to worry about needing a physical amp, physical cab, or physical mic.

You're off to a good start. As you should be. Which defeats the purpose of having a modeler. well, actually, you need a power amp to make the speakers work regardless of if you are using a multi-effects processor You need something to power the cab. Lose? I don't know if 'lose' is the correct word. But, yes, anything that goes between your brain on the way out and your ears on the way back in is going to change the tone. This includes, but not limited to, changing guitars, changing strings, using a different pick, using a different lotion on your hands. It certainly includes switching rooms. And, my gosh, by dolly, it absolutely includes using a different amp, cab, or speakers.

The main issue with changing any sound source is going to be tone. There is no problem using it this way or that way or the other way. You simply will sound different each way. This can be a problem when designing tones because what sounds good here doesn't sound good there.

Will I still need a good soundcard (at some point)?

Then why bother asking a question. The built-in Microsoft Wave Recorder is plenty good enough for what you want to do. -
Any way of having the delay stop instantly on a Pod HD 500
pianoguyy replied to random10101010's topic in POD HD
but switching patches has that nasty delayed opening issue. that's hardly a good solution if you are in the middle of a song. -
They are separate outputs. XLR is always left and right. Only the 1/4" sum to mono.
-
the first thing we need to ask is... is this a new issue? I mean, it is quite possible that if you are a new user that you simply aren't doing it correctly. Next up is the always famous... reinstall the operating system.

If you look at that little metal piece inside the hole... you can't get away with buying a new one. You must buy the new knob. Those little metal pieces are actually staked into the plastic to keep them stable.

hard drives are really cheap when compared to what they cost in the past. and the capacity has increased exponentially. It is far more economical replacing the hard drive vs replacing the computer, than it was in the past. And, given the hardware and OS changes in recent years, it may just make more sense to keep the old system as long as you can. My suggestion is - if you intend on doing any recording that is meant for someone other than you to hear; buy/build a system solely for recording. Don't try using your home computer with anti-virus, Facebook, and iTunes to make 128 track masters. -
to be more specific.... Patches from the four units (Pro/x/500/x) can be entered using the drag-n-drop method with no converting needed. The EDIT programs will not find patches (when using the "open" command) for other devices because they are programmed to look for a specific extensions. Outside of those 4 devices, the patches will need converted. But you can absolutely drag and drop for those 4.

I think the one thing everyone has overlooked is to ask a brand new user... Where are you looking and what are you looking for? You are not going to find a spot that says "here's your list of bonus amps" because they are mixed into the list with the rest of them. Nor are you going to find them listed as Orange or Marshall.
-
Correct. AND, new users are giving some really horrible advice to other new users. To be fair, on the HD section, I don't know if there are "more" new users, or if it is just because there isn't any activity from old users which makes all of the new user posts pile up one right after another.

Pod HD550x how to hook to 2 different amps for stereo
pianoguyy replied to ciscodudewan's topic in POD HD
Stereo, the simply usage, is using two amps. That is simple enough - just plug in two amps. But you said "true stereo", which (to me) means that you want to take it a step further and get different noises out of each speaker. That means panning left and panning right. That means running two chains. That means... Hey, if you are new, let's just get you familiar with the unit before you try more advanced stuff. -

Yeah, dude, I never understood what these guys are talking about when they talk about tube amps, or the guys with the stacks for bar gigs. I used a Peavey Bandit 65 for darn close to 30 years, right up until the time I switched to my Pod. -

The "right/mono" refers to... It sums to mono if you are only using one jack. If you want to run stereo, all you need to do is use both jacks. BUT, "true stereo" also requires patches be designed properly. -
Seems like it was worded incorrectly. You upgraded everything. L6 changed nothing. L6 software hasn't gone downhill, it remained the same. Proper writing would have been, L6 software remains stagnant, while others go uphill.

I am a "Brand K" dealer. I don't own any Yamaha products. Admittedly, it is in the range of possibility that one of the HD units I bought were made after the Y takeover. But I buy them used, and it was designed before the takeover. So I am good in my eyes. I am certainly not going to check the serial number on a used 500x before buying it just to avoid a Yamaha product.

Quite frankly, it doesn't matter. If you have no intentions of taking it out of your bedroom. And you made no mention of recording. Then, it simply does not matter. You design your tones around the speakers that the noise is coming from. It only makes a difference if you intend on using something different. Take me, as an example. I will use the headphones that came with my cell phone. I have $20 computer speakers (which may have been $5 twenty years ago). I have JBL Eons. I have pa systems. I have Hollywood production studio equipment (I work for ABC/Disney). My home stereo. A guitar amp. I mean, I have access to gear out the wazoo. The list of what I use is endless. But I only design my tones on certain items. Because only certain items give a clear, unbiased, tone which will translate well to any source. I can't design tones on those Samsung ear buds because there is too much bass being added. BUT, if the only thing I was ever going to use was those ear buds, then I could design my tones without the bass to compensate for the extra bass they provide. But design them that way, and then use them on the Eons, they will sound thin and tinty.

Yamaha (the present owners of L6) have IEMs.

Other then hating the new layout... I have no had problems with the site other than when they first switched. And, of course, the other day when Comcast had their nationwide blackout - but that wasn't their fault. I will go "full disclosure" though.... Let's face it, the HD series is dead and everything needed to be known has already been discovered. So, the activity on that section is dwindling. I can look can click my shortcut and read the forums without signing in. I only sign in when I need to respond to something. Ya know, so, if signing in is the problem, I can't give an honest opinion on if it works or not.

Let's face it, the acoustic sound IS a patch with no amp and no effects. But... the default patches has entire setlist devoted to acoustic, vocals, and bass. The newest firmware has a setlist for variax, which has at least 2 acoustic patches in it. Always a good place to start.

Interesting question. The answer is.... 1. Don't touch anything. Push no buttons. Unplug nothing. Turn nothing off. Leave it alone. 2. Tell us, EVERYTHING, you did. No matter who insignificant you think a step is, tell us. 2a. Be sure to include if you have had the device hooked up before, or if this was your first time. It is possible that they are gone. It is possible they are there hiding. We won't know until you do #2.

Yet, I've never bought a new piece of L6 gear. And I have never had a problem registering them.
