I am connected to an L2t through L6 Link
-
Yes. Line 6 Monkey is updated and I installed the latest USB drivers for the Variax with the Variax connected to the computer with the Variax USB interface. Workbench is at 2.13. Workbench HD worked fine through the Variax USB interface. I updated Helix, the editor, updater, and the USB driver. Followed ALL the instructions. Helix is happy. Variax is connected to the Helix with a VDI cable and playing. I rebooted the computer. I reinstalled my presets and IR's. I rebooted Helix and it rebuilt all my presets again. Helix is connected to a USB 2 port, and the editor connects fine. When I start Workbench HD, it says it can't connect. I tried it with and without a 1/4 plug in the Variax. I'm using Windows 7 Pro. Is there something I can do to see if I can send a signal to the Variax from the computer. I have a DAW (Mixcraft Pro Studio). Not much of a MIDI guy though, I've done some piano rolls in my DAW, that's about it. I do have another guitar connected to the Helix through the 1/4" Guitar In at the same time. That's it. MIDI through USB is on and MIDI send and receive are on MIDI + USB. My DAW is not started and no MIDI devices or software is in my home.

Oh, and yes, I tried it both with and without a 1/4 plug in the 1/4" adapter in the Variax

Hmm. What I didn't do was reboot my computer. I'll be right back.

Ok, I'm at a complete loss. I haven't been able to figure out how to get Workbench HD connect to my JTV-69S with latest firmware 2.21. My Helix is updated to 2.20 and the Editor is updated. Helix USB driver is updated to 1.85. MIDI over USB is set to on. Helix is connected to my computer and the editor sees it just fine. My Variax is connected to the Helix with VDI and playing fine through the Helix. I updated Line 6 Monkey to 1.74 It says I have the latest Workbench HD - 2.13 The Helix release notes say there is a Workbench HD 2.20, but no link is provided and I can't find the software. If I go to downloads and and select Variax / Workbench HD/ Windows 7 and select Go, nothing comes up, I just get the "Recent Updates" Through Line 6 Monkey, I updated Workbench HD to 2.13 and the latest USB driver to 1.0.72. If I connect the Variax to my computer through its USB interface, Workbench HD connects to my Variax fine. I was expecting, however, that if I am connected to my Helix with a VDI cable, then Workbench HD should see the Variax. It doesn't. What am I missing? I'm feeling rather stupid, and don't see any step by step instructions for setting up and using the Workbench with my Variax I kinda hadda stumble through the process to get all the pieces installed.

Yes, I use two of them. You have to have a TRS to TS cable to get it to work though. There's another thread out there with the specifics on this cable. I bought a TRS cable and tried clipping one of the lines at one end. Being lazy, I didn't bother to check it first with my meter... Picked the wrong line :( Make sure you check the spec. I haven't botthered to fix it yet, I just partially stick in a TS cable into the FV-500H at the moment. Works fine. Eventually I'll ask one of the electrical engineers here at work to fix my cable for me.

Unless you had TWO M5's (or M9's or M13 or H9 or Zoom 70cdr or Zoom MS-50G). ;) At the prices of these things It's not even that unrealistic.... I do hope someday they allow you to have multiple splits in a path, as sometimes I'm not limited by DSP so much as slots when I split two cabs off an amp on two different paths.

There's also a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/line6helixusergroup/ with a great post with a ton of resources https://www.facebook.com/groups/line6helixusergroup/permalink/652658181584525/ A Helix Wiki http://www.helixhelp.com/pmwiki.php And of course the manual at the Line 6 site http://line6.com/data/6/0a06439c975d5787c3e351aa0/application/pdf/Helix%202.0%20Owners%20Manual%20-%20Rev%20D%20-%20English%20.pdf

Sumpin must have changed... Did you update recently, and thereby hose your global preferences? Did you on purpose/accidentally change something in your global preferences, like, maybe setting it to output at unity instead of using the volume knob... something along those lines.. Did you move your amp so it's closer to you (I know, dumb question, but hadda ask). Did you change the way you connect to the amp? Are you plugging into the front of the amp or the effects loop (if it has one)?
-
My bet is it is a linear scale, and a more logarithmic scale between 0 and 50 would sound more musical And yeah, I'm in the camp a that their effects are kind of brute force..... Well engineered, capable, technically correct, whereas a company like TC Electronic spends a little more effort on making the effect change more musically... But, then, when you do that, sometimes you make "wrong" choices... For instance, I never was able to bond with their Corona Chorus... I never really delved deeply into the Tone print choice for it either, though. Anyway. Yeah, more-better reverbs and delays....

Was there an editor at 1.03? How did you back up presets pre-editor?
-
Put it in front of the Helix?

OMG.. Why does this thread even exist? It's not like Line 6 were selling the patches. And even if they were, so what? Buy 'em or don't. Who cares? Please. Let it go. Make free patches for everybody... Or don't. Personally, until food and everything we need every day are free for the taking, I'm all for paying people for their effort. But if I don't feel like buying a preset, I don't. In fact, Line 6 SPENDS a lot of money to provide a forum for us to share presets if we feel like it. And now we're going to hold that against them? sigh

I dunno, Eric has been awfully busy on the forums lately....

Sorry, Somerville was booked so I had to change it to the Duke's room at the Wakefield location - 14 Teal Road, Wakefield, MA 01880. 2pm to 5pm by popular demand. You don't have to stay the whole time, but I wanted to make sure people had a good window available for themselves. And yes, bring whatever gear you want. Amps, monitors, guitars Helices, etc...

Boston Area Line 6 Helix User Group Update - We've got a total of 5 fer-sure's plus the Uber-celeb @Frank Ritchotte of Line 6 fame has offered to come by. I'd like to reserve the room today at http://www.Jamspot.com in Somerville, what's the best time zone? 2-5pm or 3-6pm? Most people who care seem to want to leave by 5. As I said, I'll be bringing my Helix and an L2t and maybe an L2m and my little Tube Works RT2100... I've got a JTV-69S, an '81 Tokai Les Paul copy, a Fender Jazz Bass, and a laptop, maybe my desktop if people think two computers would be useful. Anything else we need? And, yes, please bring as much gear as you want, or as little. The little rooms are said to hold up to 10 players, and the big room has a stage. Only "issue" is no food or alcohol in the studios at Jamspot, hope that's not a bummer. The rooms do have a bunch of gear though, including a drum kit if that's any consolation. Thanks so much for joining us Frank, we really appreciate it! (sorry for all the posts on different sites, but we seem to be all over the map on the internet :) )
-
Ok, last call, gotta reserve a room, Frank's in and 4 other people have responded for Sunday... 2-5pm or 3-6pm?
-
I have a vote for Sunday Afternoon/Evening. And another person who's available then, too. And now a third Sunday person with best window between 1 and 5.

By Google Group, did you mean Google+ Group or a Gmail group? I created a G+ Community and Event... https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/108229931072223233693 https://plus.google.com/u/0/events/cahar5140lk770lhuu0k0sjpisg

Ok, it looks like the Boston Area Line 6 Helix User Group (BAL6HUG)(hmm... that acronym could be a little scary) meeting is a go, assuming we can get people to agree on a time. I spoke to JamSpot.com Somerville, and they've got rooms available on Saturday (and Sunday I assume) from 10am to Midnight. I'm thinking a 3 hour time slot? (prices are $35/hr for 240 sqft and $50/hr for 600 or so sqft.. I don't mind covering it, though donations would be appreciated). Whatchyall think? I'm available all day both days at the moment. Give me some times you'd like to go, I was thinking mid to late afternoon? Apparently lots of parking is available and free. They also have a place in Wakefield, but Somerville seems closer to everyone.

Yes. Facebook is not necessary. A large contingent of users are there, but I know it's only a small percentage of all users. Given I've sort of taken on organizing this, it would be great if you could PM me your contact info as well as what day and time would be best. I'm choosing this weekend because Frank Ritchotte is available and wants to come. At the moment it looks like I'm going to try to rent some space at Jamspot in Somerville or Wakefield unless somebody has a better idea. I figure put aside 3 hours, and if we want more time we can hit a local watering hole. It's $35/hr for 240 sqft (12x20 or 15 x 16 I assume), or 50/hr for a 600 sqft room. I don't mind covering it and people can chip in if they want. If a majority of people want a weeknight instead, I'm open assuming space can be found. I'm going to find out what space is available in a couple hours. And, yeah, I'll create a Google Group, too. Sad having multiple locations for info, but there isn't a single social thing out there everybody is on, and I'm not awesome at website management.

Thanks for the thought :) Not sure a bunch of guys talking, drinking beers, and fooling around with some gear would hold much interest as a podcast though :) But who knows, could always facebook live it. Well, at least until... ;)

Looking to organize a get together either April 1/2 or 8/9 - probably preferably this weekend since Frank Ritchotte from Line 6 will be around and would like to join us.... Still looking for a location. Let us know if you'd like to join us. If you know of a good location, please let us know. I've got 5 interested parties so far... Bring your Helix (or just yourself if you don't have one but want to see what they are like), a guitar or two, some beer or wine or whatever. Let's share some time and ideas together. I'll have at least a laptop and maybe a desktop if we want to share presets. I can even bring an interface (Focusrite 6i6) if it's appropriate... I created a Facebook Group to help organize this and other events.... https://www.facebook.com/groups/BostonL6HelixUG/

Just want to thank you for your "Dumblesque 2" patch. It works awesome with my JTV-69S, so versatile... Wish it was a little more compact so I could make some more versions of it with some more delay and reverb. But I've been playing with it for days both clean and dirty and getting so many great sounds out of it. And plenty of nice round tone and none of the "fret slap" I get sometimes when I try to set up a clean Fender amp to use with the JTV. (I'm not sure what that "fret slap" is, only happens sometimes, can't tell if it's my playing or the JTV or some setting on the amp the JTV doesn't like. But none of it here.).
