Headphones don't work when plugged into UX2 all the way
fflbrgst replied to gagry's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
Sounds like the adapter is at fault for the headphones. Get a different one. Voiceover work, typically you would want to use EQ (to match your voice and the recording space) and some compression. -
Looks like Line 6 removed the list they had posted on this site (probably when Spider V came out). But here's one for you: http://www.musifex.pt/media/itemfiles/SPIDER_IV_15/pdfs/Misc_-_Spider IV Song presets .pdf

Help Recording Spider V w/Cubase
fflbrgst replied to deadastronaut's topic in Computer Audio Setup and Troubleshooting
Do you have your computer connected via the USB-B port? (That's the squarish one). Assuming you do, turn on the computer first, then plug in the USB connector, then boot up Cubase. The amp should come up as an audio input option. If not, try a different USB port on your computer. If you already have another USB audio device connected, your computer might not recognize a second one plugged in at the same time. -
Help Recording Spider V w/Cubase
fflbrgst replied to deadastronaut's topic in Computer Audio Setup and Troubleshooting
You want Cubase to recognize the Spider as AUDIO input, not MIDI. MIDI is not audio, it is digital signals carrying frequency and volume information (and sometimes program change info) which then has to be sent to software that converts it to an audio signal (a virtual instrument, VSTi). -
If there ever was one, Line 6 does not have it online any longer. What device are you planning on using it with? From a previous question: The closest one available is the FBV MkII Series Controller Advanced User Guide available at http://line6.com/support/manuals/fbvemkii. There may be some info that applies, but not everything. I see one of these on sale on reverb for $149 - cheap, but its really only good if you are using an older Spider amp (IV or before) or an old POD .

I have a Spider IV and would not use it for bass through the speaker, but have used the DI/headphone output (to my audio interface to my computer). I don't believe the speakers in the smaller Spider amps have a low frequency response suitable for good bass sound production.

Knob 'creep' is not unusual with the Spider amps - loud volume can actually make a loose control move enough to trigger a change. One solution is to put a rubber O-ring around the shaft, then put the knob back on tightly, the o-ring will make it harder to turn.

Take your guitar (and cable) to a music store and ask to plug into one of their amps, since you don't have one of your own.

PHONES/DIRECT OUT DESIGN PROBLEM
fflbrgst replied to todneilpage's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
No, you are correct - DI box would be for plugging into a board, not for headphone use. Two different uses. My Spider amp use is strictly in my home studio now and I much prefer miking the amp rather than DIing it - the other problem with Spider amps is plugging into the headphone/DI jack cuts off the speaker, too. My usual recording setup is to Y the guitar output: Guitar>stompboxes>Radial PZ Pre>amp-out to Spider and Pre-EQ out to audio interface. I mike the amp using usual methods (Shure SM57) and record both that and the direct signal to separate tracks. I typically don't care to use a stereo output for the stereo FX, as I just don't need it in my final mixes, but on the rare occasion I do, I will split the stereo (headphone) output to two inputs on the interface. My loud band gigging days, hauling amps around, are long done, but I still gig acoustically - guitars and PA system, and very occasionally a pedal board and bass/amp set up. If you are a touring musician, you already know the basics: 1) Have a backup for everything - guitar, cables, controllers, amps. It sucks to haul extra everything, but it sucks worse to not have a backup when needed! 2) When (not if!) something fails 2 minutes before the show - or DURING the show - you have to have a plan on what to do. The weak point of Line 6 FBV controllers (and the amps that use them) are the CAT5 cables and connectors. These are not designed or made for the constant wear-and-tear of touring. Cables are easy to replace, but the connectors in the amps are finicky, too - if any of those pins get bent - and break off - you're sunk. I've never seen any professional touring guitarists use Spider amps. Steve Howe of Yes has used 2 DT series Line 6 amps for years - I assume one is strictly backup, but can't be sure of that. He seems to use an off-stage tech to change sounds and guitars and FX so he doesn't have to mess around with many pedals (except wah) - most touring guitarists are not so lucky and have to do it themselves.- 11 replies

In addition, the MkII will allow your Spider IV amp to communicate with Spider Edit software on your computer for configuring sound patches, storing them and updating the amp/s firmware. What Line 6 amp do you have, if any?

PHONES/DIRECT OUT DESIGN PROBLEM
fflbrgst replied to todneilpage's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
No, you won't get a balanced signal, because the amp does not have a balanced output. There are 1/4" TS female to XLR male adapters, if the mixer does not have 1/4" inputs, or you can run cables to a DI box, which will solve the balanced signal issue. The lack of details in the Line 6 manuals is long-standing issue!- 11 replies

Pod Studio ux2 - Recording through a tube amplifier
fflbrgst replied to kwasozlop's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
Only if your amp has a DI/headphone output jack. You can't plug an amplified speaker output into the UX2. To get the tone from the amp recorded well, mic the amp. -
Sorry, but it has ALWAYS been the Line 6 problem - user manuals, instructions, etc are very basic - at best - and they make you rely on other user's youtubes, etc. Thought when Yamaha bought them out things would change, but no....

Line 6 FBV Shortboard MkII Foot Controller

You posted this question in the forum section for FBV foot controllers, you should post in the forum section for Helix. -
PHONES/DIRECT OUT DESIGN PROBLEM
fflbrgst replied to todneilpage's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
Very simple solution (which I have used): stereo splitter cable that takes the stereo TRS and splits it off to 2 mono TS plugs. this way you can plug both into separate inputs and get the stereo effects of the Spider amp, not just a mono signal - which you could get by using a TRS-TS adapter. Obviously a balanced XLR (or 2 for stereo) would be better for DI purposes.- 11 replies

What happens if you fiddle with the distortion/fuzz box FX setting knob? Do you have the same problem using any of the clean presets? -

I believe you want to use 'Line 6 FBV Control' -
Calibrate the FBV Express MkII footswitch
fflbrgst replied to Gil72's topic in FBV Controllers (MKI / MKII / 3)
The toe switch is an opto-electric switch inside the pedal itself. You need to STAND on the pedal to activate the switch - trying to do it with hand pressure or while sitting will not exert enough pressure to do it. -
No Line6 Output Device using Pod Farm
fflbrgst replied to Alecduris's topic in Computer Audio Setup and Troubleshooting
In OBS, you may need to 're-scan' (That's what Reaper calls it) for new VSTs by directing the path to the folder with Podfarm. -
No Line6 Output Device using Pod Farm
fflbrgst replied to Alecduris's topic in Computer Audio Setup and Troubleshooting
Not familiar with 'OBS', but the Scarlett has to be selected as your output device in it. Can you select PodFarm as the input in OBS? Or does OBS allow use of VST plug-ins? -
All I can add is that its a known issue with Line 6 amps, well documented from people's experiences.
-
Sorry, Phil, you are wrong. Did you read the threads linked? The Line 6 tech person's answers indicate both sides need to be connected. its a well-known issue. The left and right outputs are separate, so the impedance load has nothing to do with it. If the outputs' impedances were summed, that would be correct, but they are not, they are separate (stereo). the only way 2 4-ohm outputs would add together to 8 ohms would be if they are were wired in series, and that would make them mono.
-
Ok, in that case, I must point our your error - and perhaps you are incorrect about the Spider V. Its not detailed in the (rather useless) Spider IV manual, but is a known issue, and is covered in the FAQs:
