One thing to do is download CUSTOMTONE patches and analyse them.

^ I used to run a Korg Pandora into my $99 Walmart Stereo. I used 1/4" instrument cable and bought a 1/4 - 1/8" adapter and plugged it into the "AUX IN" of the stereo. It sounded meh but it was good enough to practice.

I have the 12. My drummer has the 10 at his house where we rehearse, so I just use his 10 at practice and honestly I can't tell the difference. They are both very balanced and plenty loud.

Thanks M... the problem was that at rehearsal, at louder sound levels, some patches sounded too boxy, some too boomy, etc. My living situation is such that I can't get too loud at home while making patches. I ended up adjusting everything at rehearsal last night (didn't take very long at all) and I am good to go now.

Why is my HD500x tuner not working when Variax is connected via VDI?

Yep that was the issue. Thanks. -
Article printed. Thanks!

^ Ok I did not know that.

^ dude, no offense, but you came in hear with your guns blazing and getting easily offended and such. Then point to the fact that nobody read your post properly because you weren't getting the answers you were looking for. Fact is you didn't read the OP properly because it has nothing to do with the issue you have laid out in this thread. I wrote the OP and my question had to do with the patches sounding crappy at stage volume. It had NOTHING to do with volume discrepancies from patch to patch. Also, nobody cares about how wonderful you are or your million dollar console or how you got to work with a Grammy winning producer.

I bought a Korean JTV-59 in May. Within about 3 weeks I noticed a few issues I couldn't live with, so I returned it to Sweetwater and was sent a replacement, which was MUCH better. So I've had the replacement Variax for about a month and decided it was a keeper. Time to put a little money into it... I couldn't get the action low enough without some notes choking out on both the High and Low E strings, so I dropped the guitar off at my local shop for a fret-dressing. Just picked it up today, got it home, and viola! Much better. Oddly, the modeling seems to sound better in regards to the palm-muting at hi gain on the Lester model. Anyway, another thing I always do to my poly finished guitars is to knock the gloss off the neck with green Scotch-Brite pads. If any of you guys get sweaty hands while playing and you've never tried it, you should give it a whirl. It makes a huge difference in playability. I followed the simple procedure in the video below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxGz6IZ9BFI I love this guitar now! :D

Have you tried another guitar cable? Noise still there? What happens when you plug a cable into the input of the POD with no guitar connected? Noise still there? What happens when no cable is plugged into the input of the POD? Noise still there?

Hey guy, I use my POD for live applications, and play directly through either my band's PA or my FRFR speaker. I was just wondering what best practice is for creating patches, volume wise. Since a bought my POD a few weeks ago, I generally create my tones with me sitting a couple feet away from my monitors which are at a moderate level. At rehearsal I noticed some of these patches are lacking in one area or another, while other patches sound great. It occurred to me it might be better to create patches while playing much louder through my FRFR speaker to more closely simulate the actual volume I will be playing while rehearsing. How do you guys generally do this?

I use this http://www.amazon.com/Rolls-MX42-Stereo-Mini-Mixer/dp/B00102ZN40 My monitors have their volume control in the rear, so it's a PITA to turn them down that way. As the mixer goes, each channel is stereo, so I use one channel for my POD and another for my computer.

With the HD500x, you can really get caught up in the minutiae of the finer details of settings, spending a fair amount of time on a patch. Then the next day you might listen to it with fresh ears and decide it sounds like crap. There is a bit of a learning curve with the device, and to really benefit from all of the features right away, you kinda need experience in guitar recording techniques. You can learn this, of course, after acquiring the x, but it may take some time. Read through this a little... http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/ and you might decide if it for you, but from what you are saying, it sounds like you want more of a plug and play device. You should look elsewhere.

I have a VP JR pedal. It's the one that says 25k on it. It works with my Line 6 M13 as an expression pedal, but I have not yet hooked it up to the 500x. I Won't be home until tomorrow night (Monday), but when I get home I will try it and report back. -
Good to know. Getting free Windows 10 upgrade in July.
