Firmware 2.10 Editor Bug - Snapshot Rename When renaming a snapshot by clicking the camera icon and selecting rename - the first time that is done it works normally. If one then attempts to rename another snapshot, the editor accepts the input, but does not rename the snapshot, it goes back to the original name. Exiting and restarting the editor did not fix - it behaves the same as above - first attempt works, all subsequent ones do not. Renaming on the Helix device itself works fine - so it appears to be an Editor bug.

Timing couldn't have been more perfect - I'm on vacation for the next 3 days and then heading in to a long weekend - so plenty of time for me to play with the new stuff. I'd like to thank Line 6 for taking my personal schedule into account when timing this release. :)

Unfortunately not. One word, though - two actually - Caveman Diet. I lost 45 pounds on that without really trying. Forget rabbit foot salads and calorie counting. All calories are not created equal. Turns your 50 inch waist into a 30 without being hungry. First two weeks are the hardest as your body rebels. Get past that and you will no longer crave those waist-loving carbs and turn your body into a ripped, fat-burning furnace.

Good luck WF. From what I saw, you really liked many aspects of the Helix, especially the ability to bring in your favorite pedals through the FX loops and the 4cm method of using your go-to cabinets. But in the end it just wasn't quite the right fit for ya. I do hope your next adventure into the tone wormhole delivers you to tone Nirvana. Regardless, I hope you keep us informed of your adventures. Best of luck and don't be a stranger.

Well, I'm long past 30. But they say 50 is the new 30, so I'm right on the cusp. I guess I'll just suck it up and take my lumps. :) And keep hitting the refresh button. :-)

Do I get a participation medal?

Humor, obviously with poor execution.

Well ... that didn't show up very well. :( Guess ya have to click the thumbnail. :(

Well, since we're all guessing, here's what I'm thinking for a .1 update ... reintroduction of the pitch shift algorithm that was pulled from 2.0 resulting in 2.01 - now fixed fix for the wah pedal snapshot thing a new amp, maybe two - can't fathom to guess what those might be other miscellaneous bug fixes that I probably haven't noticed or experienced :) What I'd LOVE to see but doubt it since these sound like major update stuff: the IR management stuff that I now can't seem to find on ideascale more IR space - just give us like a thousand and be done :) some kind of really cool realistic feedbacker effect

Looking for a handful of folks to test new Cab IR library
bsd512 replied to jroseberry's topic in Helix
Thanks! I did forget to mention that I also have an SY-300 guitar synth in the loop which is running a very simple bass tone with a high pass cut providing some low bass on a separate track. If you're note above is referring to that, that's my addition (for better or for worse) and should not reflect on the IRs themselves. Personally, I liked the addition - I thought it thickened up the track with a good bassy big-sound fullness. :) When I listen to that "bass" track by itself it's more of an ambient rumble that is felt as much as heard. I liked it. Anyway ... loving the IRs. I have your IRs in one snapshot and my other favorite OwnHammer IRs in another so I could quickly switch between them. I definitely noticed the lack of fizz in yours that was present in the OwnHammers that my ears must have become immune to before even though I have a 6k high-cut on the OwnHammers. Comparing both side-by-side switching back and forth, the difference is very noticeable. You've mentioned that was one of your goals, and I can definitely say that you have succeeded. :) Both IRs snapshots use a 72 Hz low-cut in the IR blocks. -

Like most everyone else, I'm really liking your IRs. Here's my sample - this is with the Brit 2204 amp w/KWB distortion in front, followed by a pair of your SM7b IRs at edge and center-off positions, transistor tape delay, and reverb. https://soundcloud.com/user-22828532/x-49-100 Thanks! -
If you consider creating really nice patches that take a lot of work, testing, a great ear, more work, more testing, making videos that demo them and describe how they work as a "service" that is worth a few bucks, they are a good deal. Most (all) of the patches I've seen for sale you can get for just a few bucks each or even less. I seriously doubt the folks doing this are getting rich off their hard work. So in that way, they *are* providing a community service for a very small amount of compensation. I doubt any of them are buying yachts and living it up in the Caribbean based on these. On the other hand, I've found a few nice things on Custom Tone, but all in all, I have discovered that Custom Tone is not worth my time. Certainly there are a few gems up there, but it's like searching for a needle in they haystack. But one can spend a few bucks get a set of really great patches from Glenn, Fremen, Scott, or other folks. If they posted their patches to Custom Tone, chances are one may never find them because of all the chaff on Custom Tone - finding a great tone there is like looking for a needle in a haystack. But for the cost of a fast-food lunch, you can get a couple handfuls of a great tones. So maybe just consider the for-pay tones as the VIP concierge treatment for curated Custom Tone service where the tones happened to be created by the curator. :) Saves you the time of filtering through all the chaff - and that's gotta be worth something. :-)

Pretty amazing when you can fit 25 amps and all those giant 4x12 and other cabinets and pedals galore in a backpack now. I wonder how much all that would weigh if someone were to tally up all the totals on everything Helix has in it - weight and dimensions? I'm guessing it would take several tractor trailers to haul all that gear that you can now carry in a book bag with one strap over your shoulder. :)

Speakers, Aux, PA?)Need Advice on what to play my Helix Through
bsd512 replied to mattodonohue's topic in Helix
Helix has so many output options there are many possibilities depending on how much you want to spend and/or your needs, i.e., live sound w/band volume, or home/practice volume. For the latter, it's hard to go wrong with a pair of decent powered studio monitors, something along the lines of Yamaha HS7 or HS8's, though cheaper options that are likely just a good would be fine depending on how much you want to spend. For the former, I'd probably look at powered PA speakers, there's lots of suggestions for specific models that folks have experience with on here, I can't recall all of them off the top of my head. Whatever route you go, you will likely need to adjust your patches assuming you've created them to sound as good as you can through the front of your current guitar amp. That will likely color the sound quite a bit assuming you are using amp and cab modeling in the Helix and not just the effects. Direct to PA or studio monitors will sound somewhat different/more true to the amp/cab that is being modeled and not colored by the real amp that is also adding its own character to your signal. -
Thanks for posting that, that was great and interesting. For some strange reason I now feel the need to play some Godzilla. :)

E-Bow has a harmonic mode that passes as a pretty authentic feedback sound, though is finicky to use. Here's a sample I did with it - first 10 seconds or so and then again at around the 2:50 mark: https://soundcloud.com/user-22828532/x-36-90 I'd love to have a feedbacker simulator within the Helix itself controlled by the expression pedal.

While you can't change cabs using snapshots with the built-in cabs, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to change any or all of the built-in cab parameters with snapshots such as what mic/distance, hi/lo cuts, etc. Those would just be treated like any other block parameter that can be changed with snapshots, just like the IR slot with IRs.

I managed (after many attempts) to use one to simulate pretty convincing controlled feedback for a little riff I was working on. You can here it here - mainly the intro with a volume swell + feedback (produced by the E-Bow), and a little bit of the outro. Rather difficult to do for real when recording through headphones and direct to USB, totally silent to the rest of the home/family. :) https://soundcloud.com/user-22828532/x-36-90 Pay no mind to the rest of the amateur stuff in between. :) It's a bit finicky, but with some practice I can see it being pretty useful to the otherwise impossible. Now ... could I do that on-demand in a live environment? No. But then I'd have some real volume to work with and wouldn't have to "simulate" feedback. :)

B) You guys are rookies at this, clearly. The proper response is, "Darling, love of my life, you need another pair of shoes and handbag to match. Oh, BTW, I have my eye on another guitar. This one is way different than the other 16 and is essential for rounding out my musical toolbox. And the first song I write using it will be dedicated to my undying love for you." B) ... Speaking from many years of marriage wisdom. :)

There's a lot that you say in the above, but I think it boils down to, at least my interpretation of what you're saying, is that you don't like the idea of modeling the mic/cabinet combination vs not. Helix and is capable of bypassing that part of the modeling. I understand you have some really nice cabinets and speaker combinations that you like a lot. Have you tried building patches that do not model the mic/cabinet or use IRs, and instead send the raw modeled amp signal out the Helix outputs, and feed those into a good quality power amp and then direct to your real, favorite, high quality cabinet(s)? I'd be interested if that gave you more what you're looking for, and seems like that might be the "direct" option that you mention above that the Helix does not do (I think it does), unless I'm misinterpreting your statement (really a question): "Why is there no "direct" option on the Helix instead of all this fuss about IRs and mics.[?]" I think the answer is that there is. As far as IRs, Helix cabs, etc, the process is a pretty sophisticated transformation of the signal. Same type of modeling/filtering that happens for high quality reverbs to capture the reverberation characteristics of real spaces from cathedrals to caves to tiled bathrooms.
